  • "Lovely stay at the cottage."

Very clean and comfortable however the second bedroom was not really large enough fior two beds not even 30cm between the beds.

  • "The Cottage was fine."

An anti slip mat and handle would be useful when having a shower for health and safety reasons.

  • "We loved the property, it had everything that we needed and wasn’t too far away to visit everything we had planned to see on this trip."

  • "Lovely holiday cottage in an ideal situation."

Very comfortable, ideal for couples wanting to explore the area.

  • "We had a lovely stay over Christmas in this cosy cottage, which was nicely decorated for the festivities."

The layout is a bit quirky but it worked well for us. All the facilities worked well, and we appreciated the prosecco, biscuits and chocolates left for us. The log fire was a welcome bonus with plenty of logs provided. We would recommend this place as it it is very convenient for Weymouth, Dorchester, and local walking areas. The accommodation would suit a family with children but is probably a bit too small for 4 adults.

  • "It would have been good to have a little bit more information about the area."

Also basics for lighting the wood fire as it turned really cold on our last day and we had nothing to start the fire with. Apart from that the place was lovely. One of the most important things was the beds were so comfortable. The cottage was beautifully decorated and furnished. The locals were really friendly, as were the staff in the local pub. You must visit the baking bird on Saturday morning her stuff was amazing. If you want to get around by public transport there are the Jurassic coast buses. We tended to get these from Weymouth. A bus runs frequently from the bottom of the hill into Weymouth in one direction and Dorchester the other.

  • "The cottage is very well-located for exploring the local area, Weymouth and the Dorset coast and countryside."

It is situated on a quiet lane that leads up to the Ridgeway footpath. Some beams and doorways are quite low, so care has to be taken. An iron and ironing board would be useful, as well as perhaps a softer settee for lounging in, though that's a small point. All in all, a good choice. It should also be mentioned that there is a very regular bus service into Weymouth and Dorchester, for those who wish to make less use of the car. Within a very short walk is a good pub, the Old Ship Inn and the Wishing Well Tea Rooms and water gardens, which are excellent.

  • "House was quirky, charming, cosy and spotlessly clean."

Two observations - the bathroom needs updating (old bath, rusty towel rail, cheap plastic toilet seat etc) and the kitchen worktops need replacing. It was a shame as these items let the property down a little. We also found parking a little tight in the street. But we had a lovely stay.

About the location

UPWEY

Dorchester 4.5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
