  • "What a gem of a cottage!"

Beautiful little retreat with everything you need for a stress free, relaxing break. The cottage is spotless, well equipped and has a wonderful, secluded courtyard area to sit and enjoy al fresco dining or just to sit in the sun enjoying the buzz of the bees and the scent of the honeysuckle (season dependent obviously). Henry and Claire are the most welcoming of hosts and make you feel like part of the family as soon as you arrive. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The gardens that they work hard to maintain are absolutely beautiful and add to the tranquility of this little paradise. I would encourage anyone to spend some time here not only to relax but also to explore the beautiful Somerset levels which are easily accessible from this central location. We will definitely be back as soon as we possibly can be. Thank you Henry, Claire, Ruby and Teddy xxxx

The cottage is a barn conversion and is beautiful. Everything about the cottage has been well thought out, the furnishings are all good quality, the kitchen has everything you need and the bedroom is very comfortable. You will not be disappointed with this property. The cottage is well placed for all that Somerset has to offer but away from the hustle and bustle. You also have the advantage of a private well furnished courtyard that is a sun trap. We ate in there every evening. Henry the owner is on hand and is a lovely friendly man. Peter and Eileen.

  • "We cannot fault the general standard of living in the cottage but the biggest disappointment was how cold it was inside without heating except in the bathroom."

I did ask the owners if we could have it on at certain times and they agreed to have it on for 2 hours in the morning and evening. After a day and a half it was never switched on again. My wife became very ili and I had to contact 111 to get prescribed medication ie antibiotics and we had to cut short our holiday. No, we did not enjoy our holiday. We will not be returning to this cottage because of the owners inflexibility.

  • "What a fantastic find!"

! We have stayed in many Sykes cottages, but Olive Tree Cottage was absolutely the best!! Beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean and a lovely quiet location. The owners ( Claire and Henry) are delightful, and the bottles of cider on arrival were extremely welcome. The cottage has a very well equipped kitchen, the bathroom/large walk-in shower is very contemporary and bedroom facilities are excellent. The large open plan living area provides a spacious, light area, with excellent dining facilities. We spent 2 wonderful weeks at Olive Cottage, and was just the antidote we needed. Book this wonderful property....we can highly recommend it! Again, thank you Claire and Henry . Karen and Phil Anderson

Set in a peaceful rural location it is the ultimate place to switch off. The accommodation was immaculately clean and spacious. The owners, Claire and Henry were lovely, friendly but unobtrusive. Locally the Bere Cider Company is within 5 minutes walk and opens for early evening drinks and had a good atmosphere on a Friday. All in all a very pleasant place to stay and one we will revisit when returning to the area. Well done Claire and Henry!!

The property is ideally located to reach lots of places to explore within a 30 minute drive. The property was fantastic. I can't fault anything, we felt at home immediately partly thanks to Henry the owner whom made us most welcome. The property is finished and decorated to a very high standard with everything being open plan with the exception of the bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom has a walk in shower with a choice of a traditional shower or a rain drop shower. The small court yard accessed through the french doors at the rear is totally private where we enjoyed a drink after a day of exploring Somerset. We really enjoyed our stay and will be booking again in the not too distant future.

Just be prepared to take some things that you think are included, like bathroom toiletries, tissues and kitchen consumables, like foil, kitchen roll etc and more tea towels. I take these with me every time I stay in a 'cottage', often they're all there, other times they're not, I realise this is an owner's choice. This is not a complaint but a 'heads up'. The bed, pillows, bedding, towels, crockery and cutlery were of excellent quality. The furniture and decor too. We had a lovely time staying here and the countryside and views are beautiful.

A lot of attention to detail was evident in the presentation of the Barn. Parking good for unloading car etc. Well located for shops etc. about a 15 minute drive away. Cider farm nearby within walking distance that does food as well as Live Music from time to time. Very quiet and peaceful in this area with views over the Somerset levels.
