  • "A beautiful place to stay."

.. comfortable, well equipped and tastefully furnished. The location was ideal for us with easy access to coast and countryside. Downsides... don't think there were any. Parking was fine, easily found space close by for our additional vehicle.

Just a few small things would have made it even better. (1) A separate bin for recycling, please, to save having to schlep to the village car park. (2) A tiny thing, but a tea-strainer in the kitchen for those of us who prefer to avoid teabags. (3) Some heating in the bathroom.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. We will certainly sort out a tea strainer and are also looking at our recycling options. There is underfloor heating throughout the property so the bathroom warms up when it is switched on. Hope you come back to do some more exploring. Regards Peter & Caroline Property Owner

My only comment is that it was quite dusty in places with a few cobwebs. The bin in particular was dirty and most of the crockery had to be washed before I could use it. Possibly the people before me didn't clean it properly but this should have been checked in between guests.

  • "Excellent and quiet out of the way property, ideally situated close to the A35 to explore all that Dorset has to offer both on the coast and inland."

We spent a total of three consecutive weeks there on two separate bookings, out and about most days, and still only managed to do half the things on our to do list as there is so much to do and see in Dorset. Bere Regis as a base is a charming village for a stroll around with country walks to hand. The village has two pubs and a very well stocked village store. The larger supermarkets are about a 15 minute drive away and easily accessible, especially Tesco in Dorchester. The property is light and airy, spotlessly clean, plentiful linen, and very well kitted out all round (we especially appreciated the fan during the heatwave!) The garden accessed through the patio doors is well stocked with pot plants, not overlooked at all, and was a much appreciated quiet little haven on our rest days. We regularly watered the plants in the evenings, which was a pleasure, not a chore. It all truly felt like a little ‘home from home’. Our host Caroline and her ‘property managers’ are extremely proactive with their guests and on hand to deal with any issues, eg, the iron broke during our stay and Caroline immediately ordered a replacement on Amazon on next day delivery. Thank you! The property has an Air Source Heat Pump for heating and hot water. There was plentiful hot water - no problems at all. Didn’t put the heating to the test being mid summer. Access, or, rather, reversing off the drive can be a little difficult initially (even in our relatively small car). The trick is, to reverse off the drive onto the lane going downhill, and then drive approximately 40 metres up the hill, do a three point turn using the field gateway access on the left, and you can then drive back down the hill past Meadow View to the High Street. Caroline alludes to this issue in the ‘Property Manual’. Once mastered, it is not a problem. We highly recommend this property and would definitely return Booking through Sykes is excellent. This is the third booking we have made with them. All their staff have been a pleasure to deal with throughout.

Thanks for the great review and pleased to hear you enjoyed your three week stay in Meadow View Barn. Thanks for watering our pots and we hope you will return to do the things you didn't get round to. We use the same technique to get out with a decent sized car but just carry on up the hill and loop down to the high street at the next turning. Kind regards Caroline & Peter Property Owner

  • "The property is situated in a friendly village, which is ideal for visiting the Purbecks and south Dorset area."

The village has a great village store and two good pubs. The staff were very friendly and the Royal Oak staff were also very accommodating and the food was excellent. The property is situated in a lovely, quiet location, providing a peaceful retreat. The entrance to the drive is quit tight and a lip at the end of the drive made it quite tricky reversing out. The cottage provided all the furniture and equipment we needed for our break and the private patio garden was an ideal place for morning coffee or early evening drink. The sofa and king size bed were both really comfortable. The bed provided a great nights sleep. All the equipment, such as cooker and microwave had instruction books available, which is really useful when using equipment you’re not accustomed to. Although the cottage details said towels were included, it was disappointing that they were small bath towels rather than larger bath sheets. There were one or two areas which could have been cleaner, such as the bathroom extractor and 1 or 2 drawers which had hairs in them. It was useful having a heated towel rail, but it’s a pity it wasn’t fixed into the bathroom rather than being free standing in the bedroom, which made the room too hot, so it had to be moved to the landing. It also meant we had to remember our towels before taking a bath or shower. It would be useful if, when advertising cottages, it was made clear they were run by a company rather than privately, as I feel in such cases cottages lack the personal touches.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and liked Bere Regis. Thanks for your comments - always useful to get feedback so that we can make improvements. When the weather is fine, there is a pull-out washing line in the garden for towels.. Meadow View Barn is privately owned and family run - we just market it through Dream Cottages. We hope that you will return to stay at the barn again. Peter & Caroline Property Owner

  • "The Barn was beautiful, we absolutely loved staying there."

It’s well thought out layout and home from home extras made it a pleasure to stay in. It was great to have a dishwasher, a washer-dryer and even a hairdryer for our convenience. We had one or two little niggles but nothing that greatly detracted from the enjoyment of our holiday. The beds were beautifully dressed but the mattresses on the Super King Size seem to dip in the middle - I wasn’t uncomfortable on them but my husband was. The underfloor heating downstairs was great but we had a bit of a struggle getting the upstairs warm enough unless we left the hall door open. I did leave a card with feedback for the owners but forgot to mention that the heater in the hall wasn’t working. I also forgot to mention the noisy, creaky floorboards on the landing - not really a problem during the day but if you have children who are light sleepers it could be an issue. Overall I would still recommend this property.
