“There was everything you could wish for at the cottage.”

It was spotless and there was nothing to complain about. I am disabled and the downstairs bedroom was ideal. In the area was plenty of walks for the dog and also for me using my motorbility scooter. Also, it was a base to go to many places.

The property

This wonderful cottage is located in a tranquil, rural setting in the picturesque hamlet of Shitterton within the village of Bere Regis.

A very well-appointed barn conversion with vaulted, beamed ceilings, creating a modern retreat in keeping with its country theme.

Perfect for families or friends to come together, Oak Cottage provides tradition and charm, reflected through its quality furnishings and thoughtful décor.

Enjoy spending time in the sitting room with the woodburning stove warming up those wintry evenings and your very own (not so) mini bar* is the perfect opportunity to relax with a glass of something refreshing accompanied by a tasty treat.

The kitchen features painted dove grey units and granite counter tops, with a dining table close by, providing seating for six people.

For those extra facilities that you may need, a helpful utility room is on hand, equipped with a washing machine and dryer.

As the night draws in, you will be spoilt for choice between the delightful bedrooms on offer, from a ground floor king-size bedroom, to the additional king-size and twin rooms positioned on the upper level.Ample storage and stylish furnishings provide somewhere of quality to enjoy a peaceful night's sleep.

A family shower room, ground floor en-suite and ground floor cloakroom complete the accommodation, matching that of a hotel standard.

Once you have explored indoors, spend a lazy afternoon in the enclosed garden, a spacious well-maintained area with gravel and lawn sections, a barbecue for a sunny day, and a hot tub for pure relaxation.

This holiday cottage really does provide a luxurious holiday base from which to seek out all that this lovely area has to offer, from the local historic market towns of Dorchester, Wareham & Wimborne to the stunning Jurassic Coast or the Blue Flag beaches of Poole & Bournemouth.

About the location

Dorchester 12 miles. Wareham 6 miles.

Bere Regis is surrounded by beautiful Dorset countryside and is superbly positioned providing easy access to the historic market towns of Dorchester, Wareham and Wimborne, the port town of Poole, and the Georgian town of Blandford. Set just 10 miles inland from Lulworth Cover and Durdle Door, Oak Cottage makes a great base for walkers following the South Coast Path or exploring the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, or for mountain bikers and dog walkers who want to explore our local network of bridle paths. We are also spoilt for choice with a variety of stunning local beaches. Bere Regis is also a good place for exploring Thomas Hardy's Dorset, with his birthplace just a short drive away, and the village is famous for its connection to Hardy's novel 'Tess of the d’Urbervilles' where it is referred to as 'Kingsbere'. Our church is renowned for its carved roof depicting the 12 apostles and contains the stained glass Turberville window and the family's 16th Century tomb. We are well located for Athelhampton House, Lawrence of Arabia’s Cottage, Monkey World and the Tank Museum at Bovington as well as the Swanage Railway and Farmer Palmers for children, all of which are well worth a visit. With the wonderful Mays Wood on our doorstep, covering much of the farmland south of Shitterton and running up to Black Hill Heath there is no shortage of delightful areas for walkers and dog walkers alike to explore. The village has two pubs, a shop, a post office, a petrol station, playing fields and a playpark for children. You are truly spoilt for choice at this wonderful location.
