  • “What a fantastic holiday home - beautiful and spacious with lots of extra little touches that made it all the more special, such as fresh flowers, dog biscuits, milk and local biscuits and cake.”

The owners had left lots of information on what to do in the local area and we had a wonderful week’s stay.

The property

Perched just outside of the quiet village of Trent is this gorgeous detached cottage, surrounded by peaceful farmland and expansive gardens.

Situated on a working farm, The Stable House offers a rural escape for a group of family or friends looking to explore the countryside.

Kick off your muddy boots in the entrance hall before heading inside this characterful abode for a relaxing evening, where a woodburning stove takes centre stage in the snug sitting room as you enjoy a family film night.

Continuing to impress is the open-plan living space, a sociable space to gather with your loved ones as you prepare meals for the group in the amply-equipped kitchen, gather around the dining table for a special dinner party, or hop on the sofa and watch some TV as you keep the chef company.

Alternatively, take your dining experience outdoors and dine alfresco in your own private courtyard as your furry friends run free around the lawn.

Also on the ground floor is a handy utility room and a fabulous shower room for your convenience.

Drift off to memories of your fun-filled day in one of four inviting bedrooms upstairs, comprising three doubles and a twin, boasting ample storage, and views to the surrounding countryside, offering a flexible sleeping arrangement for all types of groups.

After a long day of exploration, unwind in the gorgeous freestanding bath, the perfect way to end another memorable day.

Soak up your surroundings and take a refreshing morning stroll, relishing in calming nature before picking a spot on the grassland for an afternoon picnic.

If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic retreat, a short walk takes you to the charming villages of Tent and Mudford where you'll find a local shop for stocking up on essentials and a welcoming pub where you can spend an afternoon with a refreshing pint and a spot of pub grub.

The market town of Sherborne is also nearby, boasting a historic Abbey, a fantastic choice of shops and dining options, and the chance to kayak in the river accompanied by otters.

A short drive away you’ll find Hauser and Wirth art gallery and café in Bruton, with The Newt nearby as well which is a great place for a walk around the gardens and to enjoy a nice meal.

Venture out on a wealth of adventurous country walks around the South Somerset Moors, Ham Hill Country Park, Exmoor and the Mendip Hills, whilst Sutton Bingham Reservoir is the perfect day out for nature lovers and watersports enthusiasts.

Culture vultures will love the historic National Trust properties in the area such as the Priest's House, Lytes Cary Manor, Montacute House, and Lambert's Castle.

With immense countryside landscapes and the Dorset coast within reach, The Stable House is a fabulous base for a family trip.
