"I was unable to lock the back door."
Owners were well aware of the problem but seemed unconcerned. It left me feeling uneasy. Lots of DVDs, no DVD player and the television didn't work anyway. I realise I could have notified owners and had these resolved, but felt their poor attention to detail demanded a bad review.

"We had a very pleasant few days stay at Bower Coach House."
Our hosts were very congenial.
-
"The coach house was in general lovely and well equipped."
The cleanliness of the property however let it down. There was dog hair on the rug, dust in numerous places that in my opinion should have been dusted. The sofa bed is not really fit for sleeping on anymore and when we opened it the cobwebs underneath just put us off and all 3 of us slept in the bed upstairs. The property is complete overlooked by the owners next door which isn’t idea as not very private so we felt we had to keep the blinds shut to achieve privacy.

"Clean. Very comfortable bed."
Shower excellent. Central to many National Trust properties. Lovely area to stay in

"We had a very pleasant week at Bower Coach House."
Thank you.

"We stayed in Bower Coach House while our own house was being worked on."
It was a lovely, cosy place to stay. Once inside you feel completely hidden and private. There are great places to eat locally, especially the Old Dairy Cafe, just a few minutes walk. We would stay again!

"Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely cake and tea all laid out which didn't last 2 minutes."
The owners were very welcoming and gave great ideas for things to do. There was also a very large folder with info on local interests According to my Granddaughter the WiFi was very flaky. But to me and my wife it meant we actually had the attention of the Granddaughter as her head wasn't stuck in her phone hahaha. The bed was one of the best I've ever slept on. Back door to garden could probably do with a bit of adjustment as isn't the easiest to open. The shower was super powerful and what was just needed after a day spent on the beach. My only negative (that has absolutely nothing to do with the accommodation) would be the local eateries. One was "fully booked and would not accommodate us even if we sat outside. The other didn't even bother switching on they're cooking appliances! So just be warned either ring ahead or plan something else. All in all, a fantastic little getaway in a very peaceful location.

"Wonderful owner, couldn't do enough to help us with."
Lovely holiday stay in a beautiful part of Somerset.

"Everything was perfect and we have had a amazing time at the cottage!"
I hope my english is well enough, sorry for any mistakes in advance. If we must point out things then only a tiny suggestion would be a sharp knife for cutting vegetables. We brought one, so it was fine. Thoughtful detail was the cake, felt very much like home entering the house. Best bed we’ve slept in on our holidays, shower and kitchen have also everything you need. So much to see and do in the surroundings, we made every minute count. Beautiful Bath and Wells, quirky Glastonbury, the Jurrasic coast, amazing national trust manors, and so one. Loved walking with Luther, great views over the fields during the walk. You have a very special place, thanks for everything!

"Lovely accommodation and super host"

"Bower Coach House is a quirky modern conversion of a 500 year old building attached to the owners home."
Ideal central south Somerset location. We found it to be clean and tidy, with a very comfortable bed, and plenty of safe street parking, there was a BBQ provided for our use in the owners garden. The log burner adds a very nice touch - although during the hottest period on record in the UK we didn’t get chance to use it! Bower Hinton is a peaceful quiet location. Local Co-op, plus near to Waitrose & Tesco for shopping. Easy access to the A303 means under an hour driving for visiting Lyme Regis, Exmouth, Sidmouth,Topsham, on the Jurassic coast . There are several National Trust properties close by, Montacute and Barrington are excellent. We also recommend a visit to Wells Abbey. Guided by the owner we enjoyed finding lots of beautiful pubs in the nearby villages, ( Cat Head, Phelips Arms Prince of Wales) Bower Hinton has a lovely pub ( the Hollies) plus it’s a 10 min walk for great breakfasts farm shop the dairy (opens 10am) also Yandles (opens 9am) Recommend for day out East Sussex steam train at Cranmore with good Sunday lunch pub Strode arms South Somerset is a great location for a holiday and Bower Coach house a good base

"We were greeted nicely by our hosts."
Unfortunately there were several issues which we felt were not good. They are: 1. We had no control over the heating. 2. Parking is described as ample but what it was was parking outside on the road very close to a stone wall which made parking hazardous. 3. Staircase up to bedroom was both narrow and steep and certainly no good for anyone who had some disability in walking. 4. The upstairs bathroom was small and the washbasin was not only tiny but the flow of water from its taps was low. 5. The floor of the bedroom was far from level and again not suitable for anyone who had some disability with their legs. It is not worth Sykes rating of 4 ticks. 2 ticks only. Previous cottages we have booked through Sykes have been excellent but this cottage fell well short of the good standard we are use to. A big disappointment and certainly not worth the money we paid to stay there. We now wonder if Sykes cottages, if we were to book again, would be worth our while in the future.
Thank you for your review Ronald. However there are certain omissions and additions relating to the property that you may have mis represented. Bower coach house is s grade II listed 17th century coach house forming what was part of a pub for over 200 years. HEATING and hotwater is operated by a timer located in the main house. There is a log burner with logs in the coach house. We did check if you were warm enough. PARKING, yes, it is on the main road with no double yellow lines present and a smal garage available to all guests, perhaps this may be down to individual driving capability as we have not heard people suggest any difficulty in the past. STAIRCASE yes, narrow and steep as described and shown on the website rental photographs, that you must have seen prior to your booking, to comply with Grade II listing conditions. ENSUITE recently completely refitted. Water pressure from wash hand basin is fine, not something that has been mentioned in the last 6 years of us operating. UNEVEN FLOOR, again, apologies but it is a grade II listed building. Thank you again for your comments and we are sorry if your stay at Bower Coach House did not match your expectations. Best wishes, the owners of Bower Coach House. Property Owner

"This property is well situated for exploring this area of Somerset and there is lots to see, do and visit on the doorstep."
-
"The Bower House was a perfect base and location for discovering this beautiful and often understated county -and region."
Ideally situated in a most interesting attractive village with superb amenities. Close to several NT properties, wonderful coastline and an array of old atmospheric towns in close proximity. We were most comfortable in the Bower House and lacked for nothing. Our friendly hostess was throughout fully attentive to needs and generous with help and advice both about the village and the area especially with recommendations for visits to places of interest. A great stay -most enjoyable.

"Lovely place to stay, ideally located for sea and countryside!"
Plenty to do nearby - National Trust houses and gardens within 15-20 minutes, sea 30- 45 minutes, craft centre in next village and delicious food at a farm 5 minutes walk!
-
"The cottage had everything that I needed for a very comfortable stay - it was so good I extended for an extra week!"
The owners were incredibly welcoming and me feel like it was a real home from home. Cleverly laid out, space and light was really maximised. The location is great for exploring the local area, with a great little farm shop and Deli (The Old Dairy) just around the corner and Martock also in walking distance if you want a longer stroll.
-
"Due to Covid lockdown in Wales we had to find a last minute break!"
The Coach House fitted the bill perfectly. The host greeted us when we first arrived and had laid out a very welcome tea and cake. The cottage had everything we needed for a very comfortable, self catering week. Plenty of information about the local area was available. Off the road parking was disappointing. The garage entrance is narrow and a car without a high chassis frame will scrape along the ground when driving onto the stones. However there was parking available in the main street.

"Very comfortable, clean and compact cottage, the woodburner was a bonus."
Excellent location for visiting National Trust properties nearby. Lovely lemon cake provided on arrival.
-
"Bathroom was a bit tight."
Kitchen equipment could have been better. Overall the accommodation was very good, well placed to visit the west countryside.
-
"Very comfortable place to stay, no problems at all, we will stay there again."
-
"We’ve had a great time there."
The rooms were a little bit on a small side but very cozy. Their bed was fantastically comfortable.
-
"Very nice property."
We did very little cooking in the apartment but found it was a bit lacking in kitchen utensils

"Clean and comfortable good location to visit beaches and places of interest ..."
Clean and comfortable good location to visit beaches and places of interest Great information pack however with COVID may be better if laminated Overall great place to stay
-
"Beautiful cottage that was perfect for the two adults and a 7 year old."
Great owners who gave great recommendations of the local area. A quiet location that is close to a lot of places, all within a 30-45 min drive. We would definitely come back to this cottage if in the area.
-
"The Coach House is ideally situated for many attractions and the coast."
-
"Perfect destination for the coast and National Trust properties."
The cottage was very comfortable and excellent taste and quality throughout. The weather was so good we were able to also enjoy the garden.
-
"The accommodation was superb, my partner and I couldn’t have been happier."
Our hosts even left us mince pies and a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate the New Year. The photographs didn’t do it justice, a lovely warm, intimate space, extremely comfortable and well appointed. Loved the log burner, spent New Years Eve curled up in front of it watching TV. Just so nice to get away into the peace and quiet of the English countryside. The weather was truly awful, but it didn't detract from the quality of the accommodation or our enjoyment. We'll have to go back and explore the surrounding countryside when its a little warmer and drier. It really was a luxurious and relaxing couple of days away.
