“It was an asset to have Lidl and Morrisons a few miles down the road because we were self-catering.”

We appreciated having a dishwasher, washing machine and cooker. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes, cutlery etc. The property felt very spacious and warm in inclement weather. The owner had thoughtfully supplied fruit, biscuits and a container of milk for our arrival. The only negative was that we had no phone signal ( for EE) or internet.

“It was the size of the bed only 4’ with very little room either side of the bed,my husband has had both knees replaced and I have had a hip replacement,so not easy to get out of bed.”

The 2 seatees were very uncomfortable. Everything else was good, it was a shame these 2 things let it down.

A superb garden to relax in, an excellent eatery across the road "Half Moon". All this and Bridport just down the road with West Bay beckoning to entice one to yet more good food, a wander around the harbour or a relaxing day on the beach. Makes a good launch point for the whole Jurassic coast and Dorchester.

“A last minute decision to go away for Easter.”

Efficient reaction by Sykes cottages enabled the booking. The cottage was easy to find in a quiet location. Parking is off road. The owner lives next door and was very helpful and friendly. The cottage is warm, clean and nicely decorated throughout. We appreciated the milk, fruit and biscuits along with shower gel, etc. Nice little touches that make you feel welcomed. There are lots of walks in the area. Shops are nearby in Bridport and Beaminster. Nice pub in the village. The garden is well kept with lots of spring flowers and the view at the back of the orchard and sheep is lovely. The cottage does not have wifi. In our haste to book a weekend away we missed that fact. However, we still enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage and area. A good weekend away in a lovely cottage and area.

The small West Dorset country village of Melplash nestles amongst rolling downland within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, two miles from the charming little town of Beaminster, known for its picturesque Conservation Area which boasts over 200 Grade II listed buildings, many of which are built from mellow hamstone, and the town also offers a good selection of shops, inns and restaurants.
