We really enjoyed the cottage garden and the local countryside. Very clean and comfortable. The cottage owners encouraged the use of eco products for the septic tank but although they provided washing up liquid and hand gel didn't provide appropriate eco bathroom products or dishwasher tablets. Any issues were dealt with promptly.

Have a look in the end laundry room! This cottage has been extensively modernised into a very comfortable and attractive let. The owner has used good quality fixtures and fittings throughout and the wood burner in the large, beamed fireplace, (all logs included) made this a very cosy cottage. Having said that, this was on top of the very effective heating system that made our November break perfect. The village in interesting with extensive water cress beds at one end. We had a really great week and I can't thing of anything negative to report.

The garden is so pretty- we loved sitting out in the evening over-looking it, drink in hand; when it rained we sat by the cozy fire (as much wood as you want provided at no extra cost). The cottage had all that we needed for a very comfortable week's stay. There was a very thoughtful gift of a jar of local honey and hand-made chocolates waiting for us when we arrived. The village is quaint and tranquil. We often enjoyed a walk out in the evening either around the village or to the local pub; in the day there are many beautiful walks- we particularly enjoyed walking to the watercress fields (and buying freshly picked watercress). The cottage is very conveniently located for many excursions- a week was not enough! On hot days we made our way to the stunning coastal villages which are only about 40 minutes away or at other times we spent our days walking in wildflower meadows or next to glorious, clear rivers by pubs and through villages. Salisbury is also a beautiful place to visit and a day at Stonehenge is a must! We are certain this would be a beautiful place to stay at any time of the year- so we will be back. We may even book the much bigger cottage next door (or both) and bring the whole family!!

The Cottage has a great feel to it, the village is quiet and the locals are friendly, there was much activity around the Church and the Community Centre, the pub and Chalke Village Stores, during our stay there was a wedding of an African Royal Family, you don't get that every day. Kings Cottage north may be small but it holds you, the facilities are first class, though the Sykes site does not make it clear what facilities are provided within the Cottage. The cottage is set in delightful grounds which are beautifully maintained. The cottage itself is fairly small but very well presented and equipped. It has been immaculately renovated and sits amidst stunning countryside in the quiet village of Broad Chalke. It is in walking distance of the local pub, the Queens Head, and also the local and thriving local community run shop. It is only nine miles from Salisbury centre but has access to wonderful cycling and walking country. It is also on a local bus route between Shaftesbury and Salisbury. Next door is King's Cottage South which is much larger with four bedrooms so together the two cottages would make a wonderful destination for a large group weekend away, or a family celebration. Peace and quiet, with lots to do and see, but a hideaway if gentle relaxation is your objective.

The property

Situated in the grounds of the historic, Grade II listed King’s Old Rectory, North Cottage (one of two superb holiday cottages at this location) offers guests the opportunity to stay somewhere quite exceptional.

Situated deep in the heart of South Wiltshire’s magnificent Chalke Valley, where the sparkling River Ebble flows towards the cathedral city of Salisbury.

Recently, the property has undergone a painstaking and no-expense-spared refurbishment, where the owners have ensured the period features are mixed with modern touches, to create a truly beautiful holiday home.

We love the understated taste and style that are evident throughout the interiors.

While the open plan kitchen dining arrangement is really airy and spacious, the bedroom upstairs is big and airy with one king size bed with ensuite shower room.

Outside there is a large rustic garden with plenty of shrubbery and sitting area suitable for the summer time when wanting to eat outside or just simply relax.

In Broad Chalke, the beautiful village in which Kings Cottage North sits, there are plenty of walking, bridleways and cycling routes right on your doorstep.

The village has an 18th century traditional pub and a local village store, and is home to the grade I listed Parish Church of All Saints, which dates back to the 13th and 14th century.

Kings Cottage is a great retreat for those looking to rest and relax within this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
