  • "Very quaint cottage."

It was even smaller than we expected! The plumber came in as we arrived and tried to mend the flush on the toilet. It did work but the button is missing. The kitchen and Bathroom were clean but the downstairs carpet was dirty. It had been hoovered but when I did it myself, it clearly needs a wash. Very comfortable beds and we liked the hooks on the walls for clothes. The kitchen is functional and we were very happy to have the nespresso machine. We couldn’t open the bigger kitchen window so set off the smoke alarm when cooking. The enclosed garden was great for our cockapoo.

  • "Lovely cottage in perfect location between the two pubs in burton bradstock - short walk to park, shop and beach."

Not for people with mobility issues as steep narrow stairs. Would be good to have 3 garden chairs as it fits 3 people. Dodgy flush on loo which unfortunately gave up on us during the stay. Would definitely return!

  • "1) Needs a deep clean."

    2) Difficult to regulate central heating at the cottage. 3) Limited vegan / vegetarian options at menus in pubs in the village. All of the above have already been noted in the Comments book at the property.

  • "Great last minute booking."

The cottage and village are delightful. He cottage is very cosy and so close to two excellent pubs and the coast is within a 15 minute walk. A great walk west towards West Bay and a return by the Jurassic Coastline Bus service drops you right back into Burton Bradstock. Good walks for dogs within the village along the Bride River and back into the village. The only draw back was a standard double bed rather than a king size.

  • "Lovely little cottage, lovely & warm."

Very comfortable beds. Could do with a doormat just inside the back door as it was raining for the first couple of days! One of the terracotta tiles was loose at the entrance from sitting room to kitchen so we took it up as it was a bit of a trip hazard and put it behind the microwave. Initially, the shower was fluctuating in temperature quite a bit but by our last night we'd finally figured out not to turn it all the way to the red markers! Maybe a little instruction note might help? The Henry Hoover desperately needs emptying/cleaning/replacing as it absolutely stunk the place out when we hoovered on departure day! Amazed at amount of traffic passing by but the cottage was still very much to our liking. Thank you

  • "Only just about average I’m afraid, the facilities within the cottage were below expectations."

The comfort within the cottage was average. The area and the external appearance front of the cottage was good, the rear was untidy and mostly unkempt especially the garden. Note: This cottage is not as well appointed as Poppas Cottage on Mill Street where we stayed previously. The ‘neighbours’ at both cottages can be covertly awkward as they do their utmost to prevent guests at the rental cottages from parking their cars by ‘strategically’ parking their own. This is understandable but the owners of both cottages would be well advised to make some kind of provision for their guests otherwise guests are very unlikely to return. Dormouse Cottage is not suitable for elderly and/or disabled people owing to the steep stairs and the bathroom being downstairs. The rear doormat need replacing, it has obviously not been cleaned for years. In the event of bad weather the entertainment within the cottage is poor, tv has limited channels and ‘now tv’ does not work. A door between the kitchen and living room would be a distinct advantage as would a dishwasher. In 30 years of renting holiday cottages this is only the second time I’ve felt the need to make any negative/constructive comments. A realistic rental cost for Dormouse Cottage coupled with a more accurate description in the advert would help.

  • "The position of the cottage is idea for exploring the Jurassic coast."

Burton bradstock is a beautiful village, Hive beach bar serves wonderful food with sea views - the young staff are very friendly. The Anchor and three horseshoes are both very pleasant too, both serving great food. Bridport boasts being the happiest town in Britain, we certainly concur with this. We walked from BB up over the ridge and down into Bridport, ate at the Green Yard cafe (5⭐s from us) such lovely staff and dog friendly. We walked to West bay, along the beach once and over golf course the other. We ate at Rise, food and service were outstanding. Abbotsbury is well worth a visit, the bus goes from door to door. A visit to the subtropical gardens is recommended whilst there. Dormouse cottage itself is pretty and comfortable. Ceilings are low for anyone over 5'9" and the cottage is a tad noisy from the road, but silent at nighttime (we could only hear the sea through our open window). The shower has a substantial leak, the lack of dishwasher ( this could be fixed by just having a walk in shower and moving the washing machine into the bathroom leaving space for a dishwasher) and uncomfortable double mattress are our only niggles.

You can’t sit out in the garden as it is not a pleasure.

  • "We knew that Dormouse Cottage was small."

The clue is in the name. The interior photos are out of date. The white furniture has been replaced with a huge table and ugly faux leather chairs. I can send photos if required. It was impossible to sit in the garden because of the roaring traffic . There was no welcoming wine, tea, coffee…anything at all. Just a minuscule bar of soap. All so mean-spirited . All for £1200 a week.

  • "This cottage is undeniably quaint, full of charm and character, I think only suitable for a couple, the stairs may be difficult for a child, there are stone steps up to the courtyard area too."

Not overly generous with loo rolls or kitchen rolls so take some with you. Great little shop with local goods as well as the usual essentials. Excellent pubs literally at either side of the cottage, the Three House shoes was our favourite. Pity about the road as the traffic is almost constant, it being the coast road from Bridport all the way to Portland, lots of motor bikes going through. A lovely drive it is as well. We had a great holiday, will go back to the area again.

  • "This cottage is in a great location, 2 great pubs serving excellent food at reasonable prices within 50 yds, there is a bit of traffic noise during rush hours due to its closeness to the main road however this did not affect us as we went out during the daytime."

The cottage is probably a bit small for more than 2 people, the second bedroom leads directly off the first one. The stairs are a bit steep and have thin steps , this may be a problem for elderly or persons of restricted mobility. The cottage was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped, I would recommend it. It is not cheap but the area commands good prices for the renters.

Well positioned for exploring the Dorset coast. Spotlessly clean and with everything you might need. The only slight downside is parking which you have to look for on the street - not always easy as the village can get really quite busy. That said, we did always manage to find a space, just don’t expect parking right outside the door. I would certainly return.

  • "Following two previous excellent cottage bookings through yourselves, Dormouse Cottage was disappointing !"

    1) Traffic noise from the road alongside was continual from early morning until late evening. 2)As we arrived in October, we would have thought that the heating would have been pre-set. The only available heating was the electric heater in the lounge (under a deep layer of dust) - hence the cottage was cold. 3)The wash basin in the bathroom was blocked so we had to wash in the kitchen. 4)We found overall the cottage to be cold, noisy & not at all cosy.

Dear Mr Beard Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I'm sorry the cottage was cold upon your arrival, but I would like to point out that there are convector heaters in every room which once turned on make the cottage vey cosy. We will look into the issue of the bathroom basin and action accordingly. Property Owner

There are two pubs, both serving great food within literally a stone’s throw of the cottage. However would recommend that if you want a traditional Sunday roast, book a few weeks in advance. There is also a village shop and a shop at the local petrol garage. For lunches and breakfast, try out the Hive Beech Café.

Garden has been improved with a small deck & new bistro set. Pungent smell of dogs when we arrived but think it was from the Vacuum cleaner as when used it the smell was terrible. Surprised the cleaners didn’t smell this and standard of cleaning in general was very poor which is a real shame as theCottage itself is lovely, very cosy & in perfect location for morning walks over to Hive beach.

Dear Mrs Wood, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I’m pleased that you thought the cottage was lovely and cosy. It was very small and even though it had two bedrooms which would have accommodated three people there was only one small sofa and no other comfortable chair to sit on. Also the cottage is situated on the corner of the main road through the village and there was constant noise from the traffic throughout the day. • "Dormouse Cottage in Burton-Bradstock was in an excellent location and had everything we needed."

Two good pubs and two shops in the village and walking distance to the beach and Hive Cafe. Great for dog walks. The dogs enjoyed themselves as much as we did. It’s location works well as plenty of villages and towns within driving distance, Bridport is only ten minutes down the road and definitely worth a visit. A few things to note if choosing Dormouse Cottage, the ceilings are low with beams so when you have a 6’3” husband be warned!! Also it is on a very busy coastal road so if you’re looking for a peaceful country Cottage, it’s not. Please could you ask the owner to update items in the kitchen.......you have to fight with the can opener! I would throw it away and buy a new one. A non stick frying pan would be good and some decent saucepans that ‘all’ have lids. We had a lovely stay thank you x

We had everything we needed and the beautiful walks were amazing and loved by our Springer Spaniel.
