  • "We booked this flat for a week but left 5 minutes after arriving and didn’t return."

Accepting personal tastes vary we didn’t find it suitable holiday accommodation. It is described as being wonderfully situated but it is adjacent to a very ugly derelict high rise block with a view of a car park. The overall feel of the place is of a run down residential block particularly along the depressing entrance corridor. A quick google search will reveal several local news paper articles about the block being unsafe. We made the owner and Sykes aware of these issues but they were dismissive in their response, failed to update the accuracy of the description and denied the safety issues despite them being widely reported.

  • "Lovely Apartment , comfortable, spacious and warm."

Very well equipped for short or long stay. Nice walks from the doorstep and a swimming pool on site. I enjoyed my stay at Sunrise Hill. Only downer was there where areas in the kitchen I had to clean when I got in. Dirty pans and fridge but the rest of the apartment was spotless.

I am very sorry to hear that the the apartment was not spotless. Can you remember if the dirty pans were in the cupboard, or if they were in the sink / dishwasher so I can raise the issue with the cleaning team at Sykes / Dreams who clean the property between guest stays? Property Owner

  • "Inside the apartment was clean modern with a well equipped kitchen (everything that you needed for a stay even a pizza tray and it even has a full size freezer)."

On our arrival the apartment block does look a little weathered from the outside but the inside more than exceeded expectations, the information that was sent before our arrival was full and concise making the process stress free, though should have also included that the apartment was, from the lift to the right and first flat on the right. All the photos fully reflect this lovely modern apartment’s outlook and position, so found one of the other reviewer’s comments a little unfair saying it was like living in a goldfish bowl and being overlooked. As we choose this apartment as a refreshing change from cottages in the middle of nowhere with Laura Ashley prints, spiders weds and the relentless hay dust during harvest season in August. Yes it is a little overlooked but would suggest the only thing needed was a net curtain to the bedroom (for a bit of privacy) anything more would spoil the open feel. The apartment is almost east facing looking out towards the hills and the Royal Naval Cemetery allowing the sunlight to light the rooms but still staying cool. Both of us found the bed really comfortable for a good night’s sleep and others have also mentioned the uncomfortable sofas and TV reception, which we found that the larger sofa that converts to a bed really comfortable (not so the other) and the TV issue did happen but we just selected the YouTube button and picked something to watch from there.... If there was one thing that disappointed me it was, when we left and went to dispose of the recycled rubbish which we had separated into different bags, the waste bins for recycling were so rammed everything had to go into the general waste bins. Not the owners fault but the management company.

  • "It was nice to see some issues previous people had were all resolved."

There was a hairdryer and the extra pillows in the sofa made it comfortable enough. We enjoyed our stay and if we come back to portland we might stay here again.

  • "A lovely flat spoilt by some things that would be simple to fix."

The owner would have spotted them if they had actually tried staying there. On arrival the bathroom radiator was too hot to handle, in fact all the hot water was too hot to be safe. Having turned the radiator off we went to open the bathroom window, only to discover, the hard way, that the plug had been left in the bath and the tap dripping. Wet feet not funny. The bathroom sink taps had lost their bits so that they can be turned with soapy hands. We were puzzled why the owner thought it necessary to leave instructions on how to install the smoke alarm for example, but nothing about how to use the microwave, hob, oven/grill or dishwasher. The cutlery and crockery were woefully inadequate. We had to run the dishwasher (once we had worked out how) for every meal. Only 3 cups! Why was the chest of drawers left in the wardrobe. If it was in the bedroom it could have had a mirror on it and been used as a dressing table - there was none. The promised torch was missing. The TV often could not access either BBC1 or BBC2 and the remotes need new batteries.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. I will raise your comments with the Sykes / Dream Cottages housekeeping team who service the apartment after each guest. They should not be leaving the apartment dirty or the plugs in / closed. The manuals for the white goods were left in the bottom drawer in the kitchen with brief instructions in the guestbook. I will re-review to expand on those instructions. When I was last in the property (in March) The torch was in the top drawer of the bedside cabinet (under the clock radio) and there were 4 coffee mugs, no breakages were reported to me. Thank you for letting me know so I can rectify the situation. The boiler is serviced regularly with with the water temperature within the safe limits Property Owner

  • "As previously mentioned in other reviews, the sofas are not comfortable despite the addition of large cushions ."

A king size bed would be preferable to the double. The cleaning left a lot to be desired with hair left on the floors and in the bathroom. Fortunately a previous reviewer mentioned that there was no hairdryer which was helpful because I would expect a hairdryer to be provided. In addition I did not get the impression from the photographs that the property was so overlooked. It was like living in a goldfish bowl. That said, it is a pleasant flat in a good location for the coast path with good bus services to Weymouth and beyond.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. When I was last in the property (in March) there was a hair dryer, I seem to be replacing that item quite regularly. The bed is a queen size. I will re-raise the cleaning issue with Sykes / Dream Cottages as it is their staff who are cleaning the property for me. Property Owner

Hairdryer would have been useful or at least mentioned when booking.

  • "A lovely apartment in a wonderful part of the world."

Everything was there to make it an enjoyable holiday. Our only slight criticism of the apartment was that the sofas were not that comfortable but apart from that it was faultless. There is so much to see and do in the area that it is easy to more than fill your time. Unfortunately, we didn’t make use of the pool etc as the opening times were such that we were out and about. The restricted opening times may be due to Covid but it would have been nice to be able to go for a swim early in the morning or in the evening. We would happily return here and would recommend it to friends.
