  • "This is a lovely cottage, in a very quiet and pretty village with an excellent pub."

  • "A few things about East Cottage."

    * The downstairs shower does not drain and needs attention * The washing machine does not drain on a coloured wash and needs attention * There was no detergent for the washing machine, only 2 dishwasher tablets and no general cleaning materials. Given the cost of the property this is poor. At least guests should be informed so they can come prepared * No information was provided about where clean towels/sheets were to be accessed for second week, thus requiring a phone call

Thank you for your feedback. We have tried to address the issues you have raised and will work with the agent to update the information aspects. Property Owner

  • "Had a wonderful stay in this clean and comfortable cottage."

The village setting is charming with walks close by. Really enjoyed meals in the sun room and lounging in the beautiful garden. Many thanks for a lovely break.

  • "The cottage itself was underwhelming."

It needs a bit of time spent on it. Peeling paint on the outside and patched paint walls inside where owners haven’t bothered to paint whole walls, just tidied marks up so paint is patchy. Fading flooring- it all felt a bit sad. I usually post social media pictures of the cottages we rent but didn’t this time as it was a bit drab. The property is in a lovely village and the village pub is amazing- we used it three times for drinks and a main meal. The village is very quiet and great for access to walks. Lovely garden. Just a shame about the house- it was adequate in terms of furnishing and it was clean but just not somewhere to be excited to stay in- kids room with bunks felt like one of those school residential properties for fieldwork. Comfortable but bland and tired would be my summary. Shame as it could be such a fantastic property with the location and facilities. Booking process and contact with Sykes was good and easy/Straightforward!

  • "The cottage and it’s surroundings are delightful and the accommodation is excellent -if there is a downside it is in the size of the kitchen it seems odd with so much space to work with that the house ended up with such a small kitchen."

I can imagine that a big family gathering would find the kitchen somewhat cramped. Nevertheless a lovely house, great garden and lovely village. - do visit the Elm Tree pub - good food, lovely staff and a great pint.

  • "Excellent location and great house."

One of the prettiest villages we've ever seen. Was a great base to explore the area. House was great too although would have benefitted from new outdoor furniture and would be great to have a table and chairs at the top of the garden so you could enjoy the view.

  • "The cottage is spacious and light, lovely and warm when we arrived."

Bedroom variety was perfect for us and our teenage children. Some parts of the cottage are looking a little tired and would perhaps do with a face lift before fussier people start to think it's not worth the price. The dining room chairs for example have started to lose spindles and a few taps are loose. The garden is beautiful, we found parking easy (just reverse) for both cars. The nearby pub is good if a little pricey and the walks from the door were great. We took games but also used ones provided. The only thing missing we felt was a little welcome pack we've come to expect using Sykes - no milk, tea, bread or local treat. Overall a great stay with a happy family just sad we only had 4 nights.

  • "We stayed at East Cottage over the October half-term."

I must say how absolutely spotless it was when we arrived - the cleanest property we have ever stayed. Cleanliness is always important, but especially now with Covid. The village is beautiful, with stunning coastal walks. The pub is very close by (heard no noise), with Weymouth and Portland just a short drive away. A lovely cottage for a large group and a dog, with perfectly working broadband. We just loved it at East Cottage and hope to return one day, as we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

  • "Driveway- I tried various directions to park and each time scraped the skirt of my car."

Parked on the street half way through the week which is quite narrow. Ground floor double - plugs need looking at on the extension lead as they hang and are not very reachable. Ground floor twin - tap loose and sometimes turns to drip on floor. Upper twin - shower does not heat to acceptable temperature. Had to use ground floor shower. Kitchen - shame it is so small. Oven needs a good clean. Shelves are gunged up. Otherwise - lovely house, heating good, lovely extension to eat in, comfortable beds, perfect area to stay. Thank you

  • "We loved this cottage, cosy and homely feel in a lovely setting."

Stones throw from some lovely walks, ideal for dogs. Although the weather was dreadful for us most days we still had a lovely time. We ate at the Elm Tree pub and the food was really good and service excellent. Cottage has night storage heaters which we thought might make the cottage cold during the day but in the main it kept warm. We took our own logs and lit the wood burner in the evenings. We will have this cottage on our favourites and hope to return one day.

Excellent cottage in a superb location ,We don’t recommend the local pub , we eat twice in the pub and we found it inconsistent quality and variable portion size

  • "One small problem was a leftover pair of underpants/swim trunks under the bed in one of the rooms!"

And the lock for the conservatory/garden door was a little tricky. Otherwise we had a lovely stay. House was well equipped. Tea/coffee/biscuits available on arrival was very welcome. The dog adored the enclosed garden with all its different levels. It was a multi-generational holiday from ages 12 to 85 and everyone enjoyed their stay. The walk to the pub was manageable for all, and the pub had very friendly staff and good food and music. Those more able loved the walk towards the Fleet lagoon. Very impressed with the cottage and with the helpful staff at Sykes Cottages. Would definitely use Sykes again.
