The cottage is spacious, clean and well equipped. It’s refreshing to find such a good selection of cooking equipment in a holiday let. Great to have off road parking. We would love to return again sometime.

It was comfortable and had everything you needed the only downside was the welcome pack didn't have milk so after arriving we needed to go back out to get extras which the local spa catered for. On the whole lovely cottage and would recommend.

We found it to be very well equipped and homely. Lots of information was left for us including local sightseeing, bus timetables and menus at the local restaurants. It was an ideal area for getting around and we were surrounded by beautiful countryside and only a short walk to the beach. We enjoyed visiting West bay and Lyme Regis. Overall a lovely relaxing holiday.

Lying less than a mile from the sea and within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with all the wonders of the Jurassic Coast too, Fossil Cottage makes a fabulous choice for a family of five.

Head down the private lane past the neighbouring traditional thatched roof cottages before parking on the driveway of Fossil Cottage, stepping into the hall from the front door and being welcomed into the beautiful fitted kitchen on the first left, with stylish units and integrated appliances at your fingertips, you'll love cooking up a storm in here.

Continue into the sitting room where you can wind down at the end of the day, with plush seating and a TV to enjoy.

Carry your wine glasses and conversation into the delightful garden room with French doors looking out to the enclosed garden.

Mornings can be enjoyed with a hot cup of coffee at the outdoor furniture in summer, with good weather meaning you can make use of the ample space in the garage for storing your kayaks, bikes and other beach gear, with a handy fridge/freezer in here too!

Completing the ground floor is the lovely shower room, while taking the stairs to the first floor brings you to the family bathroom which boasts both a bath and an overhead shower.

Discover two bedrooms up here, with the master bedroom home to a king-size and a triple room featuring a set of bunk beds and a single bed, perfect for little ones!

The charming village of Chideock makes a perfect base for your Dorset adventures, with the house being less than a mile from Seatown Beach, a beautiful shingle shelving beach which is popular for fossil hunting and fishing, and makes a delightful spot on a sunny day with some fabulous views of the coastline, as well as being home to an award-winning Anchor Inn pub serving locally caught seafood to delight in!

Back in Chideock there are two pubs to visit as well as a local store in the village Post Office for any essentials, while Bridport holds all you need by way of supermarkets, restaurants and takeaways, as well as boasting some attractions of its own including Bridport Museum, Bridport Vintage Market and Palmers Brewery with tours and tastings.

Follow the South West Coast Path to cover more of the Jurassic Coast, or head out on a bike ride to the town of Lyme Regis where plenty of fun awaits; marvel at the amazing collection of over 9000 fossils at Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, learn about the local history of the town in Lyme Regis Museum, and explore the beautiful Langmoor and Lister Gardens overlooking the beach and town, before enjoying the pretty shores on a summer day!

With the Dorset AONB providing endless breath-taking countryside to roam too, Fossil Cottage makes a wondrous retreat for five to Dorset.

About the location

CHIDEOCK

Bridport 2 miles. Lyme Regis 7 miles. West Bay 4 miles.

The pretty village of Chideock (pronounced Chiddick) can be found straddling the main A35 road between Bridport and Honiton, in glorious West Dorset. Many of the quaint cottages lining the road are constructed of cob and the honey-coloured local sandstone. Lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the area has plenty of lovely walks, whilst just 1 mile away is Dorset's Jurassic Coast, famed for its fossils and ease of finding them, where a walk along the coastal path affords spectacular views across the sparkling waters of Lyme Bay towards Portland, Chesil beach and the Dorset coast. A short drive east takes you to the ancient rope-making town of Bridport, and the harbour at West Bay, or venture west to visit the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis. An excellent holiday base from which to explore this scenic area.
