"A beautiful home, plenty of space and all the comforts that you need from a holiday home."
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the home fully delivered.
"Nothing to report it was a lovely stay very cosy with the log fire as the weather wasn’t so great but we made the list if it by going for walks and the everyone was friendly in the street."
I would stay there again. The stairs are steep which kept us fit during the bad weather. It was nice to get away and see sone terrific waves.
"Place was exactly as described."
We all had a really great, cozy time!! Would recommend to anyone and would visit again. All information provided beforehand was helpful and accurate. Thanks.
"An absolutely wonderful place to stay!"
Booked this with friends for a New Years getaway, and cannot fault it. Incredibly clean, really spacious and all the amenities needed for a brilliant break. I would recommend Spring Rose Cottage to anyone - young groups and families alike.
"We had a fantastic holiday."
There were 6 us and the cottage we perfect, plenty of space, provided everything we needed. We knew that parking was a little bit of an issue, but if you can’t park on Queens Road then there is a couple of 72 hours free parking car parks 5 minute walk away. The location is perfect. Close to the sea, the pubs, the shops. We will definitely be returning.
"Spring Rose Cottage was lovely, well equipped, lovely decor, and Portland itself is delightful."
It is a shame that you’re unable to park a vehicle at this property, but we knew this before we booked and nearby parking wasn’t difficult. One major concern is that there were no keys for the windows, which in the bedrooms are at floor level and open with a considerable drop. We had to string the handles together as our 1 year old found out how to open them almost upon arrival. Surprised that they don’t have opening limiters? Other than that we had a wonderful time and hold to return.
Many thanks for your feedback regarding the windows. We are now fitting window opening limiters to the large windows in the bedrooms. Glad you had a nice holiday and look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner
"Very comfortable house, situated in a small terrace with friendly neighbours."
Queens Street is best for parking, you can access the terrace/house through an alley from Queens Street. The town is very hilly with steep roads and alleys down to the beach, as such you will experience the most amazing sunsets and sea views from the house. We found the location perfect for visiting all of Portland (on foot as well as in the car) and heading out for day trips to Lyme Regis, Poole, Brownsea Island and Lulworth Cove/Durdle door.
"• Sofas & beds mainly due to being IKEA where not at all comfortable which let the property down."
In holiday accommodation you do not expect this, no comfort and not a “home from home” experience. • Inconsiderate neighbours who park across front entrance also not pleasant (no 16). Made it extremely difficult to leave/enter the property with children, bags and a dog! Parking also proved to be very difficult in side streets at peak times. A shame as this could be a lovely property with some updating .
"The cottage is really welcoming and spacious and had everything we needed for our stay."
It is a couple of minutes walk from the beach and has shops and pubs nearby. It was perfect for the four of us and our dog.
"Amazing location, great scenery, thank you"
"We had a wonderful week."
The house suited us perfectly. Two families with four boys aged 9-11. The weather was great. There was plenty to do and explore. Nice places to eat nearby. Perfect
"Everything you could need & more in the cottage."
It was beautifully decorated to a very high standard, clean & very comfortable. Lovely to have tea & coffee provided. The information booklet was extremely useful with suggestions of places to eat etc. Was an added bonus to have outside eating areas & we even had breakfast on the upper decking area. Although no parking directly outside of property there was always plenty of parking nearby. Great location so close to beach (lovely to lay in bed listening to the waves on the pebbles). Would highly recommend & definitely want to revisit.
"Fantastic location, beautiful cottage which was well-equipped, very well-maintained, wonderfully clean and very peaceful."
It was just what we needed to get away from the COVID and US election dramas. Plenty to do on Portland despite the UK going into second lockdown whilst we were there. We enjoyed the pubs and cafes whilst they were open and after lockdown, plenty of take-aways and nearby shops. We also: went walking and running, fished on the beach and took in the sights of Portland and Weymouth. The people on Portland are very friendly. Although there is no parking outside the cottage, there is plenty of parking on Queen Street which is accessible through an alleyway and less than five minutes walk to the car so people shouldn’t be put off by that. Sykes were really good at keeping their website up to date with the lockdown info and the owner of the cottage also emailed us before we arrived so we had her contact details. We had a great time and would highly recommend others to go to Portland and stay in Spring Rose Cottage.
"Portland is a fascinating little island with great walking and places of interest Spring Rose Cottage is comfortable and well equipped and I would go again."
You cannot park or unload outside (but we knew that) and it is a very hilly area but that gives great views and is good for exercise.
"Lovely property, well appointed in a great location to explore as much as Dorset as you want."
The coastal walks are particularly good with some special areas to visit, Portland Bill, Lyme Regis, Charnmouth, Radipole in Weymouth and Lulworth Cove were areas we would recommend. The property itself was ideal, very comfortable and welcoming. There were amenities close by and a good selection of watering holes. The Cove Inn was particularly good. There is a small courtyard to the back of the property which we were also able to use as the weather was warm and sunny.
"The house was very comfortable and well equipped."
Once we had found recommend parking it was not a problem, we managed to park at end of lane adjacent to Albert Terrace. Across from the lane was a Park which was handy for short dog walks, early morning and last thing at night. There are hardly any shops in Fortuneswell, only a small Co-op. We found the Cove House Hotel by the beach a very pleasant place to sit either for a drink or meal, food very good and staff friendly. We would also recommend Indian Restaurant, we only had takeaway, twice, which was outstanding.
"Just come back from a week's stay at Spring Rose Cottage and it was fabulous."
The cottage has everything you could possibly need and more! Really well equipped, washing machine and dishwasher were a real bonus! The owner contacted us before our stay and couldn't be any more helpful, with info about the island, places to go and even has family passes to places that we could use. Nothing was too much trouble at all and she replied so fast with any queries. The cottage was spotlessly clean with freshly laundered made up beds and towels, beautiful garden terraces with lovely furniture and wonderful sea views. Spacious bedrooms and beautiful bathroom. The neighbours were very friendly and offered some tips on where to watch the sunset. As in the description you cannot park outside the cottage but you can stop at the top of the terrace to unload and usually find parking on Queens Road. Portland is very hilly, so have your walking legs ready! We cannot wait to come back again, Spring Rose Cottage did not disappoint
"Lovely little place to stay with excellent facilities and well placed to enjoy the area."
Local neighbours were very pleasant. Only downsides were: it is a very tiny terrace so noise from neighbours socialising outside in the evenings did carry considerably to bedrooms. Just the one toilet for a property sleeping 8 does inevitably create difficulty on occasion although it is as listed, we just did not notice there was no mention of a second cloakroom until after we had booked! Also lack of parking outside, again this was listed so we were aware but it definitely makes unloading and loading all holiday luggage more stressful. However the difficulties were cancelled out to a degree because it is such a pleasant property to inhabit and the owners had provided every comfort. The outside terraces made it and, as we were blessed with excellent weather, we only ate one meal inside.
"The cottage was great - we had a lovely time, and being so close to Chesil Beach was a bonus."
Facilities on the cottage were great. But I do think Sykes needs to stress that parking is impossible outside the property. Parking in Queen’s Road was doable, but not for people with limited mobility as the hill was quite steep back to the cottage. Also, the steps to the beach are not for those with limited mobility either. This does need to be mentioned in the description. We were fine with it , as we’re the grandchildren, but it could be problematic for some. Otherwise, everything was great and would recommend.
