  • "Our stay at Sunset Lodge was wonderful, from a generous welcome pack to a very comfortable bed, very clean accommodation and wonderful views from the balcony."

The accommodation comes with a Garage which was a major plus as parking is very limited. The Cottage is in a prime location for exploring the dorset coast, Portland, Weymouth and surrounding areas. I would highly recommend staying here and we look forward to staying again in the future. • "So pleased with our accommodation, when there’s 6 in your family it’s easy to feel squashed together but Sunset Lodge was extremely spacious, great sized rooms and we loved staying there."

Everything we needed was provided, from the welcome pack, washing machine and dishwasher to the garage for the car (which was a lifesaver as there were never any spaces on the street!). The view of the sea from the upstairs balcony was enjoyed by us all and we experienced some amazing sunsets. There was information provided both for all the facilities in the cottage and the local area. We were very well situated to visit lots of the county’s tourist spots but also there was a lot on Portland to enjoy as well. When we decide to holiday in the area again we will definitely book in to Sunset Lodge.

  • "Lovely place to stay, clean and fresh on arrival, we received a welcome tray of Tea and Coffee with Crossants and Jam."

Very well thought out. Large selection of Glasses and crockery. Needs some small pryrex dishes for cooking and salad, only had a couble of very large ones, apart from that it is very well equiped, even provides toilet roll and soap. Had a supermarket order delivered to my door the next morning we arrived, to save room in the car. Perfect location for seeing portland and enjoying the sea views, we know Weymouth well, so were always enjoying the coast towards Bridport for the Beaches. Parked our car in the garage, plenty of room with a roof box on top. The other garage is a utility room, with washing machine, sink and arier.

  • "A lovely spacious holiday apartment as described."

Comfortable beds and sofas and dining chairs all much appreciated. Parking can be tricky but having the garage underneath for a small car helps if free car parks adjacent and opposite are full. Sunset views from top balcony are stunningly beautiful. Lower balcony off kitchen is good for air but better to carry food upstairs to eat out and enjoy the view. A couple of tiny niggles - ensuite shower good but drains slowly and just a few signs (kitchen n dishwasher handles sticky and inside drawers/cutlery tray needed a quick wipe) that there might not be time between summer tenancies to do a full 'professional' clean. But nice to have outside balcony table and chairs all clean and ready for use. Chesil Chippy fish n chips 5 mins walk away. Cove pub 5 mins away - good for early evening drink - ask for plastic container at bar and sit on benches on public promenade - but difficult to book a table due to their staffing issues/not answering phone and it was closed on Monday in June

  • "When I first found this house I was very worried about the road outside as it’s the only one coming off of Portland so knew it would be busy and noisy."

I checked reviews and didn’t see any complaints so I booked it.I was right it was noisy and single glazed windows didn’t help.My husband has to have window open so he didn’t get much sleep all week and he’s a heavy sleeper.I didn’t get great sleep either and I had window closed in my room.Wknds are the noisiest, cars all night.Such a shame as house is amazing , perfect in every way.Views are so lovely and to be able to sit on balcony was lovely.Being tired everyday ruined it for us thou.During the summer you would have to have windows open so prepare for car noise.I didn’t want to put a bad review as house and cleanliness were 10/10 but wish somebody had let me know on a review as I would of booked a different house with dream cottages.

Due to the property being for 6 people, would definitely be better if the other garage was also for a car, it was just wasted space, that would of been greatly received for the other car, apart from that, brilliant, can't fault it.

  • "Lovely property and stay - our only real 'want' (and suggestion) is to have a washer/dryer (or dedicated dryer) - as (with a child) washing can build up quickly, and the weather doesn't always guarantee the provided line could be used."

With a dryer, we don't think anything would be missing :) (minor point - the WiFi has two similar access point names (just differing case) which means both access points need to be added to any device for full coverage (unless they can be meshed/extended correctly)

Very comfortable , home from home everything you need . Would have loved to have booked for next year ,but shocked by the increase in price. Will not be booking with Sykes again as this holiday should have been for May last year tried to move to May this year as lockdown 2020 but unfortunately it was already booked. Tried many times to contact Sykes by phone and email the only reply I had was to say I had to book the same property. If holiday was just for myself and my husband would have asked bank to get my money refunded, but wanted to have holiday with family so booked for main summer week , had to pay extra which is understandable ,but why almost £60 insurance paid for first holiday and charged again for this one? Will keep a check on prices for the property with other holiday companies as home in ideal location and was very good value on previous visits

I originally booked in 2020 over the telephone so did NOT have an on-line account. I needed to speak to the Sykes staff in May 2021 but gave up because I could not get through to anyone. I would NOT use Sykes Cottages again because there is no customer support. The property was great it was a shame they are registered with Sykes who were not there to give us any telephone support.

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our week in Portland."

The secure garage was essential as getting further parking close by was almost impossible (August 2020). The views from the house are excellent. To make the Sykes summary clearer it is worth pointing out: - enter street level, utility room (looks like a garage but it isn't) is on this level. Your secure garage is on the right of the entrance front door. - go up stairs and you have the kitchen/diner and then bedrooms on this level. There is a balcony at this level (Picture 19/27 - lower balcony) but no views. - go up stairs and you have the lounge with a second balcony (Picture 18/27 and Picture 1/27) - perfect to view over the sea wall which is in front of you - fantastic views. No other property has this view. It was great to sit on the balcony and watch people walk by on the promenade. (the summary only refers to one balcony but there are two). Perfect for evening walks, some great places to eat close by. Good wifi (15mbs) - stable and consistent. Very pleased we were able to stay and clearly, based upon the guest book, a lot of people book each year.
