  • "We loved the property, it had everything we could wish for."

It was very clean and comfortable. The location was ideal for visiting the surrounding areas. We will definitely return to this lovely property again soon.

  • "The problems with the heating and shower were not resolved but best attempts were made to get them sorted and heaters provided and the service around this was excellent and we felt that we were being looked after."

The property would benefit with some useful additions, a shelf in the bathroom for toiletries, a towel hook in the downstairs toilet, lower bedside lamps so that you don't have to get out of bed to switch them off and off, the bedside lamps in the twin room were excellent for this. A light in the under the stairs cupboard. Labelling light switches would also have saved the confusion of what switch did what at the bottom of the stairs where they appear to be wired illogically.

  • "The house itself is in a handy location to reach the sea on both sides of Portland in about ten minutes."

On the east side you have all water sports available and on the west a large beach. It only takes ten minutes to walk to Portland Castle (Cream Teas £9 ) and to see the Mulberry Harbour (from the invasion of Europe) When we arrived at the house the only smell was bleach. On looking round we saw cobwebs in the corners of the kitchen windows, cobwebs in the corners of rooms and a squashed spider on the bedroom wall by the curtains (Hard) The main light in the bathroom was populated by many dead insects. The bath was the most uncomfortable I have ever used and was in reality just a deep shower tray. On our last day the plug in the washbasin in the bathroom, stuck in the closed position and after the wind, the catch on the back gate was pulled out of the wood, I fixed it, in the short term by screwing it back on with a filthy screwdriver I found on the shelf in the wardrobe, but the screws did not bite into the wood, so these incidents were reported locally and were due to be fixed at changeover. Following your message about clearing the bedding and leaving it in the bathroom - we did - only to find that the mattress was stained brown in many areas and looked disgusting. It would not take much to make it in great condition - a good clean, a new mattress and more comfortable seating. The bedding itself was very good. There was only one toilet roll for two toilets. While the wine and cookies left for us were appreciated I wold have swopped the wine for another toilet roll !!

  • "Having never been to Portland the house was in an ideal location for us."

It was very clean and as described in the listing. We were touched by the bottle of wine and dog treats on arrival. Unfortunately we locked ourselves out, but it was no bother at all. We called the agents and someone was with us within 30 mins. We found this amazing as there was no fuss or bother. Both the lady I spoke to on the phone and the gentleman who came to let us in very very professional and could not do enough to help. We would recommend this house to anyone who wants to visit portland.

  • "The house was truly stunning, even better than it looked in the picture."

It was a lovely touch to have some doggie treats on arrival. We had a couple of issues with an over enthusiastic fridge and a loo that wouldn’t stop flushing - but this was followed up quickly by the Team. Our car wouldn’t fit in the garage (Land Rover) but we were easily able to park in the street. Great facilities really near by - would gladly stay there again!

  • "Just returned from a fantastic stay at Telltales as a family of 4 with two children under 10."

The cottage is incredibly well equipped for absolutely everything you need! Lovely to see the Olympic decal on the wall and reading about the Olympians who stayed there. Bed rooms were very comfy, lovely and warm and clean. The apartment has a garage just around the corner that really helped each night not worrying about parking, albeit a very tight fit! Fortuneswell itself has a gorgeous Indian restaurant and lovely local pubs. Portland harbour is great for an evening meal and drinks. We also enjoyed the golden beaches at Weymouth, Portland Bill and a very scenic trip to Durdle Door. Thank you for making our staycation so memorable, we will definitely be back.

  • "The house was wonderful."

Lots of room and facilities and plenty of room for storage. It is tastefully decorated and felt very quiet and cosy. We did not have to use the garage as there was parking on the road just outside the house everyday. The garden was private and ideal. It was lovely to get a bottle of wine and my dog loved the treats which were left as a welcome for us. It was ideally situated. We could walk to the beach, drive quickly to Weymouth and other great places. I would book it again in a heartbeat.

Owner was fantastic with any queries we had abs were rectified straight away. Would definitely recommend this lovely house.

  • "Couldn’t turn shower on of which you were informed but to no avail someone was to phone back but didn’t."

Downstairs windows filthy. Blinds downstairs couldn’t pull them down. Although someone said they did downstairs toilet it still took ages to fill up. Rug in lounge worn. Duvet no buttons on them so couldn’t stay on quilt.

The issue with the shower is resolved. The linen is contract linen and this is standard. The property does have regular window cleaning but proximity to the sea means any bad weather and they are salty. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

The property

Located on the beautiful and rugged Isle of Portland on the World Heritage Coast of delightful Dorset, Telltales is a contemporary cottage, originally built in the Olympic Village to house athletes of the 2012 sailing events.

The property features an open-plan living space with a kitchen, dining area and sitting area, a perfect space to socialise with your friends and family whilst holidaying in this picturesque part of the Southwest.

Settle down on the plush sofas and catch up on your favourite TV shows or reminisce on the past days adventures.

The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need to cater for your party and a delicious home-cooked meal can be enjoyed at the dining table whilst you plan your next day’s itinerary.

Moving up through the property, you will find two elegant bedrooms; one double and one twin, both presented with a light and airy feel, offering a lovely spot to catch up on your rest.

Freshen up in the family bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC and start your day feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Head out into the enclosed garden and enjoy your morning cup of coffee or even an evening glass of wine to unwind at the end of the day.

Just a short stroll away from Chesil Beach and Portland Marina, Telltales is the ideal base, with Portland offering adventure in all seasons for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, fishing and water sports enthusiasts.

Portland Bill is a well-known Portland landmark with its iconic red and white striped lighthouse, and the huge rock formation known as Pulpit Rock, as well as featuring the popular Lobster Pot Café that sells genuinely local fare with a fantastic view across the bay!

On the Chesil Beach side of Portland is 'The Cove' which incorporates the sea wall defenses as well as a fantastic pub where you can enjoy local food and ales.

Portland Harbour, as seen in the 2012 Olympics, has public access for sailing and more extreme water sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing and the area is also very popular with divers for the various shipwrecks that can be found dotted around beneath the water’s surface.

Situated at the heart of Dorset's Jurassic Coast, Weymouth & Portland is an excellent base for exploring the coast and countryside.

Weymouth is under five miles away and offers a lively nightlife, an abundance of restaurants, high street shops and a sweeping sandy beach, whilst by contrast Portland has an altogether slower paced and less hectic feel.

However you choose to spend your time, Telltales is sure to be a welcoming break and a wonderful home away from home.
