  • "Had a lovely stay at Unicorn."

The house was so clean on arrival and had everything you could need. Also close to a great pub, cafés, shop and easy access to some nice walks around Portland.

It provided an excellent base from which to explore Chesil Beach and beyond. We would recommend the company ‘Dream Cottages’ and ‘Unicorn’ in particular.

The parking was a little challenging but we managed ok! Not many places to eat on Portland, but we had lots of fun days out and plenty to do in this part of Dorest.

  • "If I could give higher than ten for cleanliness, meeting expectations and the facilities, I would!"

Unicorn Cottage exceeded all of these. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the cottage not only looked clean but it smelled clean and whilst the facilities were listed and shown in pictures the cottage was so much more. Lots of little unexpected things; milk and coffee and biscuit waiting for us, extra bed linen, all the super homely touches, made this a terrific holiday home for us to get away to. Cant thank the owners enough.

Thank you for your generous feedback, which we appreciate. Your comments are most encouraging and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Unicorn, best wishes from the Owners. Property Owner

  • "For us it was perfect."

It was comfy, cosy, very clean and beautifully decorated. Lovely little garden with great views, secure for our dog. Close to the beach though it's a good hill to walk back up which got easier as the week went on! Perfect for exploring the fantastic area of Portland. My only negative is the parking which is very awkward and tight but it wouldn't stop us going back. Highly recommend. PS Neighbours were sociable to.

Real attention to detail with every little thing thought of. Spottlessly clean. Good location - 2 minutes to a very well stocked co-op and 10 minutes walk down the hill to a pebbly beach. Very pretty garden. New sofas that are much better than the ones in the images!

Many thanks for your feedback and we are very pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and had a good holiday. We are looking forward to having our interior images updated soon! Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas break."

We were unsure if the booking would go ahead with all the Tier changes. We were kept regularly informed by the company. The cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived. We were surprised and delighted to find two decorated Christmas trees and the table set for Christmas with crackers. A thoughtful touch. Also thank you for the other supplies. The cottage was well equipped and lots of useful notes. We took our 2 border collies with us and they settled very quickly. Home from home.

  • "Our second visit to Unicorn cottage."

It was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. We spent many of our mornings in the garden room, my Jack Russell loved the garden. We enjoyed sitting on Chesil Beach with a takeaway from Chesil Chippie (awesome vegan menu) watching sunset! Our visit to West Bay and Bridport was very special. The Smuggler’s Inn at Osmington worth a visit (you need to book). A warm hearty lunch at White Stones Art Cafe, or The Sugar Loaf at Easton (both cater for vegans), followed by a walk down to Church Ope Cove (very peaceful!). We used the buses to get around Portland and Weymouth (great service). Thank you! We’ll be back soon! Anna & Josie (woof!)

Thank you Anna & Josie for your feedback which we value very much, particularly your recommendations for local eateries and for the public transport system - so valuable for our future guests. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Best wishes, David & Janet Property Owner

We found it warm, cosy and spotlessly clean. Janet & David have created a very ‘special’ Dream Cottage, and just like its name, it felt truly ‘magical.’ We loved the pet towels, pet blanket, and dog bowls, and the unique ‘Woof’ corner. We loved the location, a few minutes walk to Chesil Beach, Quiddles bar, restaurant, and The Cove Inn. We fell in love with Portland, and the friendly, quirky locals. Thank you! we’ll be returning soon!! Anna & Josie (the Jack Russell)

  • "Wonderful comfortable cottage."

Made our stay in Portland exceptional. People have previously mentioned the ‘small’ parking space , I found space absolutely fine, not small at all.It is the access road, Artist Row,that is small, very narrow, I would think again if you have a large long vehicle.

  • "Unicorn is a super cottage, exceptionally clean, and comfortable."

Very nicely decorated. Nice quality toiletries. Certainly one of the best cottages we’ve stayed in over the years and we’ve stayed in a few!!And by our own admission we are quite fussy. The parking is tight if you have a large car, but very safe, and it is only a knack really.

Thank you very much for your feedback which we always value. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at Unicorn. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely and the owner has supplied a lot of information, however some information was lacking, 1, there appeared to be an ironing board but no iron , i may have missed where it was located in the book but could not find it."

2, the double bed was not the most comfortable thing, i never slept through 1 single night. and finally 3, the parking space is very tight - they had put a guide in the book inside the property which was not good as i scratched my van trying to park it - why dont you inform people that it is tight and on a hill. so pre warned i would have walked down the hill and checked out the space, your pictures make the space look roomy (probably a fish eye lens) but it is quite tight and you are clearly aware of this by including instructions in the property book.

We take on board your comments and thank you for your helpful and formative feedback as we do genuinely strive to provide the very best holiday experience for all our guests. The iron is kept, with laundry tablets and clothes pegs, in the laundry cabinet in the garden room, adjacent to the washing machine, (where items are safely out of reach of small children.) We will ensure that this information is in the guest folder. Beds tend to be suited to personal preferences, and we are sorry, despite the double bed being fitted with a new top-quality pocket sprung mattress, that you found it uncomfortable. We do include a strategic plan for ease of parking in our guest folder. Driving into the parking spaces in Artist Row in a big vehicle is quite straightforward, but when reversing out, keeping over to the left side of the drive usually makes exiting easier for some. Portland is full of narrow streets, built before cars! Property Owner

  • "Extremely clean."

Only drawback was parking area at the rear. Would have been perfect for a smaller car but other than that a lovely holiday cottage.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. We do include a strategic plan for ease of parking in our guest folder, having had plenty of practice with our large 4x4! Driving in to the parking spaces in Artist Row in a big vehicle is easy, but when reversing out, keeping over the left makes exiting more straightforward. We recently welcomed guests arriving in a motor home, and they found that they could park without problem. Property Owner

  • "Unicorn cottage is a gorgeous & well appointed cottage, extremely clean & tidy; the owners have literally thought of everything you could need, with luxury toiletries supplied, lovely soft towels, two showers (one in the bathroom & a seperate wet room) plus new washing up sponges, dog treats & milk in the fridge."

The beds are really comfortable too.... The road leading down to the cottage is very steep & narrow, and getting into the parking space a little tricky because of the stone garden walls either side, but we mastered it after a few days. Portland has more or less everything that you need, but bear in mind that the Cove House Inn is really the only decent pub within walking distance of the cottage - at least regarding food, and so of course this pub was pretty much packed every evening. If you want to eat with your dog you have to sit outside at this pub, as they only have two tables where you can sit inside with dogs and you can't reserve these. So we made use of the fish & chip shop & Tesco's in Easton for meal-deals. There are no restaurants in Fortuneswell so you have to drive to Easton for more choice of places to eat.

  • "We had a wonderful time and the cottage really is lovely, equipped with everything we needed to enjoy our stay."

We loved the good quality tea bags, handsoaps and the fact that a pint of milk was left in the fridge for our arrival. We would have loved a more comfy sofa to stretch out on after a busy day exploring and a less wobbly toilet seat would have been fab; that being said we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would definitely visit again.

Thank you for your useful feedback. We do appreciate the suggestions you have made, and we have replaced the offending toilet seat! Also, we have just ordered new lounge furniture, which includes a very comfy sofa. Property Owner
