  • “Sanctuary Cottage is a beautiful place to stay with excellent walks and amenities in very close proximity.”

The Cottage is charming, spacious for 2, ideal for 4 and I’d guess a tad cosy for 6. Facilities are fantastic and kitchen In particular is exceptionally well appointed. Only slight criticism relates to plumbing fittings - toilet seats cheap and loose, shower head slider broken, sinks small and one had a broken plug; this might sound bad but it is all usable, just not as good as the excellence elsewhere and could be fixed for a low price. We would thoroughly recommend Sanctuary Cottage to ...

The property

A superbly-renovated Sunday School, Sanctuary Cottage is part of the stunning conversion of Church House, located in the village of Totland, on the west coast of the Isle of Wight.

Spacious and packed with many original features, this lovely property is ideal for families and friends looking to discover this beautiful island.

After parking on a private unmade road, walking down a few steps and strolling across the enclosed patio garden, you’ll enter this immediately impressive property through a beautiful red arched door, into the hall, where the charm of the Sunday School’s arches and beams will greet you.

The ground floor has a cloakroom and a spacious open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area, boasting delightful stained glass windows, as well as comfortable sofas upon which you can cuddle up in front of the Smart TV, or play your favourite music through the iPod dock whilst reminiscing about the day’s adventures.

Upstairs every room has original beams, sloping ceilings and delightful church windows and there are three bedrooms, one a twin with a Velux window and zip/link beds, able to convert into a super king-size double on request.

The second sits opposite the stylish family bathroom and is perfect for the younger members of the party as it offers a set of children’s bunks suitable for children up to 5ft 2".

The master bedroom overlooks the patio garden to the front and boasts a TV and a superb super king-size double bed, also zip/link and able to convert into twin beds.

Outside, the patio garden is enclosed and offers furniture for alfresco dining, whilst just eight minutes’ walk away are the clear waters and pebbly beach at Totland Bay.

Upon walking left along the beach you’ll come to The Waterfront, ideal for a bite to eat whilst watching the sun glisten on the water, whilst walking right will take you to the lovely old pier and a year-round dog-friendly beach.

A little further afield is Colwell Bay, offering The Hut, an ever-popular café and restaurant and Freshwater is also a short walk, with many local shops for you to browse.

Alternatively, pack a picnic and take an exhilarating walk up Headon Warren to enjoy some of the island’s best views, especially at twilight when the sun is beginning to set.

With all this and more just waiting for you, this charming cottage, in a stunning location, is perfect for a holiday all year round.
