  • "This is a lovely tranquil retreat, perfect for exploring the area."

The hosts are excellent, happy to chat if you want and there if needed but if you want peace and quiet and lovely gardens this if the place. The view out over the garden is wonderful. Can’t vouch for the television or microwave - didn’t need either, cooker is good, plenty of hot water and good shower.

WE ARE DELIGHTED THAT YOU ENJOYED YOUR STAY WITH US AND WE HOPE TO BE ABLE TO WELCOME YOU BACK SHOULD YOU VISIT SOMERSET AGAIN. BRIDGET AND SIMON Property Owner

  • "Fabulous holiday in the Granary(Great house)in Edington."

In all the years that we’ve used sykescottages (15yrs)I can only think of one that was a let down and that was more the owner of the let rather than Sykes. Thanks again

  • "Wonderful weeks stay in this lovely converted granary in a beautiful village."

Such a great location for all attractions. The garden was so peaceful with the added benefit of the use of the pool. Will definitely re visit in the future.

  • "Very friendly and helpful hosts."

They took great care to welcome us and even booked the pub for us for the evening meal. (Phone reception not great in parts of Somerset). A great location to see most of Somerset from. We really enjoyed it in spite of the terrible weather. The property was lovely and well equipped. In its own beautiful garden. The only slight downside was the size and location of the bathroom but it was sufficient. I would not recommend the property if you have any mobility issues because of the steep stairs to the bedroom. For anyone else it is a lovely unusual property, beautifully decorated and designed. Enough of a kitchen to make your own meals and eat at the table and a reasonable seating area with sofa and two armchairs to sit and chat and look out on the garden or alternatively watch the TV. A couple of good pubs in walking distance for meals, a great local store. Near to some wonderful walks - RSPB reserves and National Trust. From the visitor book there are a lot of repeat customers, and I can see why. Would definitely book again in the future - if available. Many thanks for such a good stay and such caring hosts.

  • "A wonderful stay in the heart of the Somerset countryside."

Our hosts, Bridget and Simon were very warm and welcoming. The granary was very cosy, nicely furnished and very well equipped. A lot of thought had been given to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. We have rented many cottages in recent years and this was one of best we have stayed in. It's a bonus to have everything you need - and all in good working order! We thoroughly enjoyed our break in this beautiful and peaceful location. The area is perfect for cycling and the Avalon Marshes are well worth a visit. There are several interesting towns to visit and it was only a short distance to the coast if you felt like some sea air. A perfect break in every way. It's certainly somewhere we would like to come again. Thank you Bridget and Simon (give a hug from us to your lovely labrador - sorry I can't remember her name!).

  • "Hosts and accommodation were fantastic, their advice regarding tourist areas was spot on ."

The shop was very near which was handy. Two pubs a short distance away although no pavements so not that easy to walk to. Only small thing I’d like to see was an airdrop tv so you can use Netflix or Amazon off your phone but there are plenty of channels and dvds to watch so no big deal. Probably the best place I’ve ever stayed in England and for a great price .

  • "The Granary was everything we hoped it would be and provided us with a very comfortable base in a beautiful location to explore Somerset and Dorset."

Our hosts, who live in their adjacent property, were very welcoming and available to give us much appreciated tips and advice on local places to visit. All in all a lovely week away.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday thank you, you really could not ask for more for the price we paid."

It was supposed to be a second holiday so we booked it as a budget break. We were very pleased to find the grounds and the property so beautiful - certainly not a ‘budget’ property. The owners were warm, helpful and present, without being intrusive. Our child had the best time, she enjoyed the grounds and playing with the owner’s grandchildren. As a parent I felt it was completely safe and secure with large locked gates so was able to relax when she played outside. As a side note - I would have rather have known the arrangements for the pool (around the pool area for the owner’s exclusive use when they want it) when I booked, so I could make a more informed decision. We think this place is a delightful place to stay and would recommend it.

  • "Very peaceful and relaxing stay at the Granary."

The stairs to the bedroom mezzanine are quite steep and the shower room is very compact. Otherwise you have everything you need and more. You have full access to the large rear garden and swimming pool beyond. Simon & Bridget make you very welcome while you’re there and always available with advice for things to see and do

The owners were very helpful and accommodating great hosts offering ideas to visit, within half an hour you could be at the seaside or visiting lovely towns and villages. The pool was a lifesaver in this heat and was most welcome after returning from my days out. The 6’ bed was extremely comfortable. It’s everything you can imagine an old stone cottage would be and I will be visiting again.

The property

The small, rural village of Edington is situated between Glastonbury and Bridgwater, and is an excellent base for exploring this historic and beautiful part of England.

On the edge of the Polden Hills and Somerset Levels, the open landscape is perfect for cycling, bird watching, fishing and walking.

The Quantocks, the Mendips and the cities of Bath and Wells are all within easy reach.

The Granary is a super holiday cottage in the grounds of the owner's' extensive home.

Pristine gardens conceal a solar heated plunge pool (available 1st May until August by prior arrangement with the owner).

Inside, the living space is open plan, with lofty ceilings, feature stone walls and glazed doors which look over the garden.

From the neat kitchen, steep stairs lead to the bright and airy bedroom on the mezzanine.

The Granary is a Grade 2 listed late 18 century modernised building constructed of Blue Lias stone and lime mortar.

During renovation some of the walls were plastered internally with traditional lime and horse hair render according to the requirements of Historic Buildings.
