  • "Lovely warm greeting by Simon, Bridget and Tara, always friendly and on hand to provide any required information."

Not intrusive happy to chat or give you as much privacy as you want. The property has everything you could need and a lovely garden view with an established garden and wonderful birds to watch. The bed was very comfortable and huge, with no noise disturbance which was led to fabulous rest. Homely touches included flowers and a fully equipped kitchen. They were very generous with the wood supply which kept us toasty and warm. We visited the local area including numerous national trust properties Dunster and Tyntesfield highly recommended . Cheddar Gorge where we the cliff top walk was very muddy but stunning views.Glastonbury (on the local bus - the bus stop is seconds walk away) and Weston-super-mare to name a few. There is a very well stocked local shop /post office which is open until 7 Mon- Sat closing at 4 on a Sunday. Recommended this beautiful haven in a lovely part of the country. Jen and Ian.

Simon and I really enjoyed meeting you both and we are so happy that you not only enjoyed staying in the Granary but also visiting some of the surrounding sights and countryside in spite of the rather muddy conditions! I am sorry I and Tara the Lab were not around to wish you ‘Bon Voyage’ but I know she thanks you for her doggy treats you kindly left her. We hope you might visit us again. Weather wise we were fortunate and were able to use the garden in the sunshine. Location wise a good place to explore Somerset with types of sightseeing/shopping to suit most people. On departure our hosts were available to bid us farewell and wish us safe journey. As and when we decide to visit this area again the Granary would be at the top of our list.

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we both hope you will return Tom Somerset and The Granary in the not too distant future. Bridget and Simon Property Owner

The property now has the benefit of a log burning stove which makes it very cosy in the colder evenings. Excellent location near to many well known nature reserves on the Somerset Levels and only an hour away from Bath for a lovely day out browsing the architecture and independent shops. Can't wait until our next visit!!

It was lovely having you and Elaine back to stay once again. I am glad the introduction of the wood burning stove was a success. Until next time… Bridget and Simon Property Owner

The owners really are very friendly and helpful plus they have a beautiful young black Labrador! Everything as stated 'on the tin' is accurate!

Having you both to stay in The Granary and your enthusiasm and interest in the property pleased us immensely and we hope you will return some time soon. The wood-burning stove has just been installed so come rain or shine the barn will be very cosy. It’s working brilliantly. Bridget and Simon Property Owner

Owners Bridget and Simon extremely accommodating and made us feel so welcome to their home and shared facilities. We loved the pool and were very blessed with great weather. The whole place and gardens very quiet and tranquil exactly what we wanted for our stay. We expected the Granary to be old and not modern and loved all the antiquities inside. Certainly the stairs were challenging but loved the massive open plan bedroom and looking up to the velux windows and seeing the stars. If you are mobile and want peace and quiet this really is the place to stay. Once again many thanks and hope to return in the future.

We so enjoyed having you both to stay in The Granary and very glad you enjoyed your holiday and that you returned home much rested. We look forward to welcoming you back for another visit in the not to distant future. Bridget and Simon Property Owner

  • "I don’t know if you have someone who goes to these properties before you ..."

I don’t know if you have someone who goes to these properties before you advertise them, as there’s some information that should be available the property is not for people who have any walking disability as it’s very uneven the steps down into the garden needs a hand rail badly , plus the washing machine you have to get on your hands and knees to use it and it’s outside in a small shed we couldn’t use the tumble dryer as we were told it wasn’t very good but they did offer to do it for us in theirs but we didn’t want them to, but our biggest concern was the kitchen sink omg the bacteria that must be around the top of it you really need to get someone to take a look at it soon as possible, but overall it’s a ideal place for a relaxing weekend

We are sorry that your stay at the Granary did not completely meet your expectations but that you enjoyed your stay. Regrettably the property is not suitable for anyone with special needs and as indicated on the website the pool is for shared use with the owner. In the event that we had received some warning of your 21 year old daughter’s requirements we would have made every effort beforehand to accommodate your wishes. Regarding the dryer you were quite at liberty to use the Granary drier, but when we saw the quantity of daily washing that you required we offered the use of our own one to help out - as well as extra changes of linen and towels as required. Normally our guests infrequently use the floor level washing machine and outside drying rotunda while on holiday but the drier facility is there in case of need. The garden stone steps are typical of an 18 century country property and hence the advice that the Granary is unsuitable for anyone with any mobility issues. There is alternative access to the garden via the paved slope. Your comment regarding the sink silicone sealant is understood and whilst this would normally be replaced during the off season routine maintenance it has already been done early. We hope you manage to find a more suitable property for your family’s needs next year Simon and Bridget Property Owner

  • "We were the first booking of the year and as it was built of stone and had an open mezzanine Flor so had to heat a lot of space so it needed either a log burner or more general heating capacity as we were cold on our first night!"

We did mention this directly to the owners who were lovely people! The granary is in a peaceful location with access to good food at two local pubs We forgot to tell the owners that the hot water was far too hot and they could reduce their costs and improve safety. The night time stairs lightingwas a good safety feature! Overall an enjoyable stay

Thanks for the feedback. We are investigating the installation of a wood burner for use during the shoulder weeks of the season and have already had a site visit to check the feasibility. (Alternative heaters are also already available on request ). The water heater for sink and basin has been turned down so the water is not so hot. A very useful comment both from a safety and economy point of view. Glad to hear the stair light at night was a helpful addition. Property Owner

Very comfortable, private and peaceful. Well placed to visit many places of interest in Somerset. We had a busy week with Wells, Cheddar Gorge, Dunster, to name just a few! Travelled a bit further at the end of the week and visited Stonehenge, then back through Frome. We ate locally at The Crown, which does a fabulous Sunday Carvery, The Duck at Burtle has good food and for something a bit different, Leather and Lace was worth a visit. Would love to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the pool and lovely garden!

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the Granary, the Mitchel's were very accommodation, thank you."

The cottage was lovely and cool in the heat of 38 C when we were there due to it's thick stone walls and well equipped. The only negative would be the bathroom, it is very compact. Personally, as an Architectural Technician, I would have used the space where the third bed is as the shower room and the downstairs as a WC only, but that's just my personal opinion. I don't give it full marks for everything as it's an old granary and I don't expect it to be perfect and top notch, and that is it's charm, we really enjoyed it. The Cottage is well placed to visit the Somerset towns and villages as well as crossing into Dorset, Devon and the Coast which we what we did. We had a lovely holiday, thank you.

Thanks for your feedback Paul. Your thoughts on shower room design are helpful and will be useful next time we do a renovation. I hope the charm of this end of the 1780 Great Barn made up for any compactness. Property Owner

  • "Very friendly and helpful hosts."

They took great care to welcome us and even booked the pub for us for the evening meal. (Phone reception not great in parts of Somerset). A great location to see most of Somerset from. We really enjoyed it in spite of the terrible weather. The property was lovely and well equipped. In its own beautiful garden. The only slight downside was the size and location of the bathroom but it was sufficient. I would not recommend the property if you have any mobility issues because of the steep stairs to the bedroom. For anyone else it is a lovely unusual property, beautifully decorated and designed. Enough of a kitchen to make your own meals and eat at the table and a reasonable seating area with sofa and two armchairs to sit and chat and look out on the garden or alternatively watch the TV. A couple of good pubs in walking distance for meals, a great local store. Near to some wonderful walks - RSPB reserves and National Trust. From the visitor book there are a lot of repeat customers, and I can see why. Would definitely book again in the future - if available. Many thanks for such a good stay and such caring hosts.

Our hosts, Bridget and Simon were very warm and welcoming. The granary was very cosy, nicely furnished and very well equipped. A lot of thought had been given to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. We have rented many cottages in recent years and this was one of best we have stayed in. It's a bonus to have everything you need - and all in good working order! We thoroughly enjoyed our break in this beautiful and peaceful location. The area is perfect for cycling and the Avalon Marshes are well worth a visit. There are several interesting towns to visit and it was only a short distance to the coast if you felt like some sea air. A perfect break in every way. It's certainly somewhere we would like to come again. Thank you Bridget and Simon (give a hug from us to your lovely labrador - sorry I can't remember her name!).

The shop was very near which was handy. Two pubs a short distance away although no pavements so not that easy to walk to. Only small thing I’d like to see was an airdrop tv so you can use Netflix or Amazon off your phone but there are plenty of channels and dvds to watch so no big deal. Probably the best place I’ve ever stayed in England and for a great price .

It was supposed to be a second holiday so we booked it as a budget break. We were very pleased to find the grounds and the property so beautiful - certainly not a ‘budget’ property. The owners were warm, helpful and present, without being intrusive. Our child had the best time, she enjoyed the grounds and playing with the owner’s grandchildren. As a parent I felt it was completely safe and secure with large locked gates so was able to relax when she played outside. As a side note - I would have rather have known the arrangements for the pool (around the pool area for the owner’s exclusive use when they want it) when I booked, so I could make a more informed decision. We think this place is a delightful place to stay and would recommend it.
