  • "This cottage is a hidden gem with a lovely Mediterranean garden."

Perfectly situated to visit many popular Dorset locations such as Bridport, Dorchester, Lulworth Cove, and Weymouth itself all just a short drive away. Plenty of room to safely park the car outside the cottage. The owners are just next door if you need them for anything. The interior is well maintained and very comfortable. Fully equipped in the kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay will definitely stay here again.

  • "The Lodge looked good from the outside."

Being an older couple we found the furniture uncomfortable and the beds were not up to a standard that we expect from a Sykes booking. There was also a distinctive smell and feel of damp in the bedroom by the access ramp. The paperwork giving instructions as to location of the keys for the other doors was not clear - we only found the keys (on nails) after a couple of days. I am unsure what the roof construction is, but any rain sounded very loud as if you were in a conservatory - this affected our sleep at night. Overall, due to the uncomfortable furniture and the "noisy" roof construction, we terminated our break after 4 days as it was beginning to affect our well-being.

Dear Guest , we are sorry that you had such bad stormy weather, which had blown a lot of leaves into the guttering. The gutters are cleaned every couple of weeks by the gardener, but unfortunately the storms you encountered were noisy for all the properties in the village. The keys for the back doors and are all on hooks on each door and we are sorry you did not find them, although this has not been a problem for anyone else in the last four years. However, we value your feedback and will put a note in the arrival pack to be more specific for future guests. Property Owner

The cottage was well situated for exploring Dorset and provided a good base to return to each evening. Well equipped kitchen, and very comfortable sofa. One bathroom has a bigger shower cubicle than the other, so we used that. Lots of parking space. Nearby pub does traditional hearty food, but we mostly cooked dinner at the cottage.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, and pleased you enjoyed the Lodge and appreciated all the little comforts we provide. Great that you enjoyed the village local and liked our big car parking area. We look forward to you visiting again in the future x Property Owner

  • "Stayed in Riverhouse lodge for 3 weeks to get a break from kitchen renovations at home!"

Lodge is in a perfect location near all the main sights. It was really well equipped kitchen wise and very clean. Owners are friendly but not intrusive and recommended places to visit. As other reviews have commented, the lodge is very dark all day and we were never without lights on - even in midday sun. Also, the TV is dated - not a SMART TV which is the normal nowadays. WiFi signal was good aside from in the kitchen. Would recommend.

Thank you for your lovely feedback from your three week stay with us. I am sorry that the trees that are on the edge of the grounds of the property next door excluded the direct sunshine into the lodge, and that as you stayed with us for three weeks you obviously spent more time at home than the average guest. The TV we have does take have a scart socket, can take a plug in from a computer for use with HDMI , and NET FLIX etc, and also there is a video with a selection of films. Unfortunately, a smart TV can need programming for each guest, and some could find it confusing, so we have a modern standard flat screen TV that is easier to use for guests. We appreciate that you would recommend us and hope to see you again. regards Lorraine Property Owner

  • "We found the property very comfortable and clean."

Beds were super comfortable, showers good with hot water. The kitchen was cold and we lost internet signal in there but it was spacious and we'll equipped. Only disappointment was a phone call from Skye's on our way home, saying the owner said the bedding was missing and one bed quilt was not theirs! The bedding was all folded neatly into a bag on a chair in the bedroom and the quilts were both certainly theirs. We advised Sykes but since Friday (2 days ago) we have not received any apology for the owners, failing to check properly and falsely accusing us of theft. Leaves a very bad impression of the owner.

Thank you for the lovely feedback, and pleased that you found the cottage well equiped. We would appologise that due to the sheets and towels being folded and put into the chiller picnic bag rather than the linen bag these were not immediately found by the cleaner, who mistakenly thought you may have loaded them into your car in error. We have since discussed this and I have apologised for this misunderstanding. We hope that this will not deter you from visiting us again. Regards Lorraine Property Owner

Bedrooms and living room dark at all times, but sufficient lighting. Both beds rather small with footboards compounding this. A good range of facilities but replacement batteries needed for some items e.g. weighing scales and tv remote. The late 5.00 p.m. arrival time meant we had to travel down the following day. There was only ever us in it.Plenty of room for any children to explore! The Riverhouse was really well equipped. We didn't go short of anything. Upwey is about 4 miles from Weymouth so you do need transport, but if you don't want to use the car, there are regular buses that run. Can definitely recommend the meals at The Ship Inn, just up the road, and a couple of miles away, and The Springhead Pub, at Sutton Pointz. So good for children and adults, garden overlooking the white horse on the hill, front overlooks a brook, outside pizza hut with a playground. Would happily return!

Booking with Sykes Cottages was excellent with them keeping us informed at all times.

Thank you for your valuable feedback and glad you found the property spacious and well equipped. Unfortunately, at the time of your stay we did have some bad weather and electric storms which did affect the transmission of the modern digital TV. About the location

UPWEY

Dorchester 4.5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Note: Shared car parking area. Not suitable for charging electric vehicles owing to distance from parking area to house.

Note: There are three steps up to the property and three steps to the kitchen so the property, although on a ground floor is not suitable for wheelchair access.
