  • "Great place, very accurately listed."

We loved it. Very well located in the beautiful village of Upwey, with most major attractions (Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Chesil Beach, etc.) no more than a 25-min drive away. Dog-friendly too, which was a must for us!

Dear PL Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay, very pleased to hear you enjoyed your holiday in Shepherd Oak and hope that we see you again in the future. All the best Helen and the team Property Owner

  • "Arrived at the property after a lengthy drive."

The property was not clean. Dirty cutlery, crockery, fridge, bedding, and shower. The dishwasher was not working, new one fitted the afternoon before our last day. Spiders in every room, peanuts on bedroom floor. Reported to Sykes on arrival, who sent a different team of cleaners, we sat while they cleaned around us, they did a good job and were very apologetic. The owner offered one of the other properties and a washing up service after a couple of days, we declined due the upheaval and autistic child who became upset of an unexpected change of environment.

Thank you for your feedback, I do apologise that the property was not up to our usual standard of cleanliness and for allowing us to rectify this on the evening of your arrival. Our clean team was new that day and have received significant training since, sincere apologies for the shortfall in standard. The dishwasher heating element had broken and the dishwasher was replaced during the stay. I'm sorry that the larger property that we offered as an alternative with a working dishwasher wasn't suitable for your group's needs on this occasion, but we do hope to see you again in the future when we can exceed your expectations. Dishwasher needs cleaning as not working properly. Fridge door shelf broken. Oven not very clean.

Thank you for your feedback, The shower is regularly treated with drain cleaner, we've brought this forward and the issue has been resolved. The dishwasher was cleaned thoroughly but it seems that the heating element was broken and the dishwasher has now been replaced. The fridge door has been damaged so that a shelf cannot be attached any longer in one of the shelf positions but we will be adding an extra shelf. Ovens have all been cleaned. Thank you for your comments, as always had we been aware of the issues we would have happily rectified them during your stay or scheduled them for your departure day. Lovely comfy beds and thick fluffy towel's. Very fast response to all queries, even on a Sunday! Having come back home, I’m really missing the quiet lane and beautiful scenery. The one slight downside is as the second bedroom is a mezzanine you can hear any noise in the rest of the property.

Appreciate the height of the windows however could do with a good clean as cobwebs at the top - some of the sheets/towels/flannels could do with replacing cooking utensils are a bit basic and a pizza slicer and kitchen scissors would be handy and all utensils are left with a residue on them from the lack of salt and wash aid summer quilt would be beneficial particular upstairs and a fan would help upstairs coasters would be useful - apart from all that we had a lovely week with glorious weather and a lovely peaceful setting prompt response from the owner when requested a new frying pan - hopefully the suggestions I have made is to be taken as a positive and potential improve the stay for the next guests

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay, we would happily have added salt and assisted with many of these when replacing the frying pan for you, but we can certainly act on this for the next guests, thank you. So pleased that you had a lovely week and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "We experienced a leak from an upstairs bathroom onto our daughter's bed."

The emergency response to deal with the bedding was great, but it meant we were without a second bathroom for a couple of days whilst it was fixed. The processes that the owner has in place let them down when fixing the leak as we returned one day to the property to find it left unlocked with the key in the door. They are aware of our views and I hope they learn from this and amend their processes. As a result we didn't dare use the upstairs bathroom for the remainder of our stay in case the leak wasn't fixed and access was required again.

  • "Just arrived home after a 5 night stay in Shepherd Oak."

Fantastic location and very peaceful. Shower tray in en-suite does take a while to drain and was worried about it over flowing. Batteries ran out on remote for velux windows. However, after sending a text to the owner, Sarah arrived the next day to change them. Only 3 miles from Weymouth. The Royal Standard pub is only a 10 minute walk away. However they are currently not serving food. Lovely beer garden at the back and enjoyed drinks in the sunshine, Easy reach of a bus route to get into Weymouth. Very pet friendly and our dog had a great time in the sea on dog friendly beaches. Would highly recommend and definitely would return in the future.

  • "Lovely property in a great location."

Very comfortable and clean accommodation, and catered well to our needs. Was also lovely to have smart TVs in the living area and both bedrooms which we could use for Netflix, iPlayer etc. Outside was lovely too where the area onto the patio and garden felt private and we enjoyed BBQs in the sun and garden games. Only minor negative was the tap in the kitchen dripped constantly, and may need tightening or replacing. We had a lovely time and would love to stop again in the future.

Having stayed here for three times the property is ready for painting, the downstairs loo door the outer finish is peeling back ( this was like it on our last visit) A positive is that Gemma phoned me on Monday to ask if everything was ok, i explained about the bathroom lights , she apologised and stated she would get someone over ? • "Given we were told that we could’ve arrive until 5pm and had to leave by 9am because of the rigour of Covid cleaning we were surprised to have to wash the cooking pots, utensils etc and avoid cobwebs."

The dish washer was too small to accommodate a day’s meals, and not enough cutlery or crockery was available once the dishwasher was on. For four people you need eight of The downstairs bedside lamp is ripped. The kettle and toaster didn’t always work. The lay out of the house and the site as a whole was well planned with much thought going into planting to provide privacy between units. We liked it very much and would visit again if we knew cleaning had taken place. It is really not enough to expect one lot of guests to clean up after others.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. Cleanliness is really important to us and we had new cleaners that week, we have since provided full staff retraining to ensure the cottage is perfect for our guests. We would also have happily corrected this for you on the day. We are pleased to provide a slimline dishwasher in the kitchen so our guests don't have to wash up whilst on holiday and since COVID restrictions have lessened we have increased cutlery and crockery to normal levels . The lamps are checked each week and are replaced when tired, if one was missed we would have been happy to replace it for you, just call the provided telephone number and we would be happy to pop over to assist. Whilst we aim to have everything perfect for your stay, should anything seem otherwise, we would be happy to resolve any concerns immediately, please do just let us know so we can assist, we would like to ensure you to have an enjoyable holiday at North Manor Meadow. • "This is a very nice holiday home in a very good location for travelling in and around Devon."

Good for families as there is a nice outside area when children can play safely. The home is a little limited in terms of kitchen equipment (which is understandable as the kitchen area is quite small). The washer/dryer machine appears to have some problems as it stops during the run and needs attention.

  • "We started out holiday in the shepherd oak cottage, everything appeared clean and tidy, communication with the owner for key collection was great and all went well."

Unfortunately on the second night we were disturbed by noise and in the morning found this was due to mice in the kitchen cupboards. There was a large amount of mice droppings, as we had a 1 year old with us, we contacted the owner and asked to be moved to another cottage. Within the hour we were in an adjacent cottage Bramshurst. Bramshurst was clean and tidy and perfectly adequate (no mice), however it was a less expensive cottage due to the architecture, windows and location of the property (being terraced and not semi detected, and having a view onto the other cottages, rather than open grass). The owner checked we were ok and everything was fine in the new cottage, however after checking out and requesting the difference in price to be refunded from Shepherds Oak to Bramshurst or any compensation for the move of property, this was rejected and a 10% discount offered if we booked directly with them next time, offered instead. We do not think this is acceptable and would like the difference in cottages price refunded at the least - if we had wanted to stay in the cheaper cottage we would have booked it and saved money.

Thank you for your feedback We appreciate you reporting the issue with the mouse. The cottage is in a countryside location where field mice live. We understood your concerns and moved you to a different property within the hour. This property is exactly the same as Shepherd Oak apart from the view. It’s really important to us that our Customers have a good holiday & if there are any problems we need this to be reported so we can take immediate action. Things can happen on holiday and as an owner it’s important that we listen and take action. We didn’t hear anything further from you during the holiday so had concluded that all was ok for you. As a gesture, we would like to offer you a 10% discount off a future stay with us. Property Owner

However the upstairs vanity mirror light would not switch of , also the main lights when on were flickering, cooker hood one light inop and the filters need cleaning ( smells ) These points did not cause a problem, damage to the bed room wall down stairs, along with 5 glasses not sure if they should be 6 ?? Apart from that we will be booking this property for next year,it was in a superb location. One other point the contact from Skye’s all the way was excellent and a positive one.

This cottage has been very cleverly and thoughtfully put together for holiday-makers - with unique classic features such as the full height living area windows looking out over the fields, but also very well appointed modern luxuries (got to love hot water on demand when you've got four tired, sandy and/or muddy people at the end of a great day out).

  • "The cottage is lovely and very comfortable, in a great location."

No complaints at all but considering the considerable price we paid for a 2 night stay we were a little disappointed that the experience could have been more welcoming. We have booked through holidaycottages.co.uk on a number of occasions and feel that the attention to detail is better. For example, the dvd remote did not work. Also mirror light in ensuite. Holiday cottages tend to have a small welcome pack to save an immediate shopping trip (eg. Milk, bread, jam). Basics like kitchen roll, cooking oil. Only small things but these make a difference when booking in the future. Regarding the accommodation itself, the only aspect that could be improved is to be able to prevent the dog from going up to the bedroom area.

We drove off to find somewhere to eat after our journey, we arrived back an hour or so later wondering what state the place would be in. It was fine just normal wear and tear but generally clean except that the fridge had been cleaned using a strong bleach which contaminated our food for three days, the extractor hood over the hob was dripping grease when the hob was in use and the kettle needed descaling of limescale. The barn was comfortable and well fitted out with good parking for the car.
