The property

This attractive detached stone cottage is situated on an elevated site above the Dorset village of Upwey, with lovely views across to the ancient 13th Century village church and surrounding countryside. Positioned on the top terrace of the owner's delightful cottage gardens, this small, quirky, charming cottage has been equipped and furnished to a very good standard and offers couples or friends a welcoming holiday base from which to explore this beautiful area.

There could be nothing more pleasant than sitting on your own private terrace enjoying drinks whilst taking in the lovely views across the valley.

On cooler days, enjoy the view from inside the comfortable and warm conservatory.

The kitchen, although small in size, provides you with everything you need to prepare some tasty meals.

If you don't fancy cooking you can always take the short stroll down to the delightful Wishing Well Tea Rooms, well known for their lunches and cream teas!

When bedtime comes around, you have the choice of climbing up the stairs to the cosy eaves bedroom with low level double bed or to take the comfortable sofa bed downstairs.

The historic market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s Casterbridge, is just a short car drive or bus ride away with its many restaurants and two cinemas.

Venture inland and explore the picturesque Dorset villages and scenery, so beloved by Thomas Hardy.

An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent water sport facilities and a bustling harbour with a good selection of restaurants.

The South Dorset Ridgeway Path also known as the Inland Coastal Path runs across the ridge a mile uphill from the cottage and is, thus, easily accessible for walkers or off-road cyclists.

Alternatively, opposite our house, you can walk the Wey Valley Walks path, towards Abbotsbury, enjoying majestic views of the beautiful countryside and Jurassic coast.

At the end of the day, return to your comfortable little Dorset cottage, a hidden gem, ready to plan your next day out.

About the location

Dorchester 5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
