“We hadn’t been given keysafe number so we couldn’t get in and had to contact Sykes who had to contact owner.”

    ...

No welcome gifts Lots of clutter - bottles and bottles of toiletries and cleaning materials in bathrooms. No corkscrew No hairdryer No waste paper bins in bedrooms Dirty sponge on bathroom sink Dirty scourer in kitchen Drawer in my front bedroom - lots of bits of paper in- didn’t want to use it. Tvs in bedrooms and lounge didn’t work ( owners son tried hard to make them work but to no avail) Intermittent to no WiFi most of the time. Very poor mobile phone reception. The lounge had no curtains or blinds for very big windows so definitely not cozy. We had booked this property partly because it was next to a pub and we planned to eat there. We went to book but it was fully booked - nonSaturday night, no Sunday lunch. If we’d been warned in the info we would have booked before we arrived.

The key safe code was personally emailed and acknowledged on 30/12/19. There was never a request for a hairdryer but one will now be purchased and the corkscrew of the correct type was provided when requested. The toiletries like the tea, coffee etc were added for the guests use and were actually new unused ones as in the liquid soap provided etc. Reference the scourer, many apologies as I had obviously missed it when checking the house . We have now added waste bins in the upstairs bedrooms in addition to those in the toilets, lounge downstairs bedroom etc and many thanks for pointing out that omission The lounge being part of a completely walled garden did not have curtains as the house is totally private and cannot be overlooked. The TV problem was caused by a fault within the local transmitter and this will be realigned to the other area on Thursday by the technician. The mobile reception is poor for certain companies to being surrounded by many thousands of trees and due to the scarcity of their transmitters in such a rural area so not within my control. Reference the Beckford Arms booking in advance this has now been amended on Sykes site and again was out of my remit - Sykes owner relations

The property

We are frequently asked how far is the property from the nearest pub?

In this case it couldn't be closer - you have your own, private steps to one of the most highly regarded pubs in the area; The Beckford Arms.

Indeed the pub's cellar is rumoured to extend underneath The Coach House (the original coach House / cart shed for the pub). The house has been recently updated to provide a comfortable holiday cottage suitable for families or friends.

It does however retain much of its original character - including beautiful windows which once adorned the walls of Fonthill Abbey.

On entering the cottage you will immediately see some of the owner's (a well known local antique dealer) eclectic and fascinating collection of artefacts. The kitchen has been designed for cooks with wooden worktops, plus most of the appliances you could need !

The dining room table is large enough to cater for friends which with the double range or the pub next door covers most options. On this floor you will also find the family bathroom. On walking up 6 steps to the large comfortable lounge you will find more evidence of the owner's divers range of interests - especially classic cars.

The lounge is also home home to a large wood burning stove, ideal for keeping warm on those cold winter evenings. The ground floor is also home the 3rd (single) bedroom On the first floor you will the 2 double bedrooms, eah with a king size bed, as well as the second bathroom, this time featuring a large walk in shower (please note - taller guests may have to duck!) Outside you will find a pretty cottage garden, and off street parking for 3 cars. The cottage is located in a stunning setting, less than a hundred yards from the entrance to the Fonthill Estate (where Fonthill Abbey used to be located), providing a wealth of walks in the most glorious countryside.

A little further afield you will find the beautiful city of Salisbury (15 miles) in one direction, and the historic town of Shaftsbury (12 miles) in the other.

The iconic landmark of Stonehenge is a mere 20 minutes drive away. The Coach House is a quirky cottage, suitable for friends and families alike.

About the location

TISBURY

Shaftesbury 12 miles; Salisbury 15 miles.

An interesting, lively village on the Wiltshire/Dorset border, well served by a good selection of inns, shops, a library, a bank, a garage and with a regular rail link to both London and Exeter. The village is set in the valley of the River Nadder, a good fishing river which gently meanders its way down to Salisbury and where herons, grey wagtails and even kingfishers may be seen - a bird watchers paradise! Along the valley, the lush green countryside provides superb rural walks and cycling. Full of history, the nearby mill predates even the Domesday Book. A visit to the local churchyard reveals a famous 1000 year old yew tree and also the graves of Rudyard Kipling's parents, who lived here. The village serves as a great year round base for exploring this interesting area. Within a short drive are Wilton House, Shaftesbury, Old Wardour Castle, Stourhead, Stonehenge, and the beautiful cathedral city of Salisbury.
