  • "Second visit this year."

Very comfortable stay. Only criticism is both bathrooms need some tlc. Mould in downstairs shower so we didn’t use it. En-suite looking very tired and probably a refurb. Neither stopped us enjoying our stay A wall clock and hair dryer in the property would also be a plus.

Many thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoy staying at Seaview. There will be some changes and updating done over the winter period. There is a hairdryer in the cupboard upstairs, I'm sorry it wasn't obvious ...maybe it was moved elsewhere. I hope you'll be booking into Seaview again sometime. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "Needed a chair or shelf or something in the bathrooms for extra toiletries, clothes, etc."

No place to put clothes before and after shower. We bought a cafetière for the property as there wasn’t one there. Otherwise, well equipped. There should be a place for recycling- we hated putting food, bottles, etc. in the same black bin bag. Otherwise, the facility was clean, quite well equipped (except for what was already mentioned), and very well situated. And parking was an added bonus.

Thank you for your feedback. Thank you very much for the cafetiere - I'm not sure why the one I provided was missing - I wasn't aware it had disappeared so I'm sorry about that. I think that clothes can be hung on the back of the door or on the rungs of the towel rail but I'll see if there's room for a small unit. Sykes rubbish collection don't do the recycling I'm afraid but they do remove the rubbish on changeover day - this eliminates the need for holidaymakers to put the bins out and bring them in (and on the correct day!). However there is a recycling centre a few minutes drive off the Preston road. Many thanks. I hope you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Our second stay at Seaview."

Ideal location for the quiet dog friendly Overcombe beach and only 5 minutes drive into Weymouth centre. Could do with a curtain in the downstairs bedroom as the roller blind doesn’t block the bright street light (which is on all night) in the car park.

Thankyou for your feedback . I'm glad you like the quiet location enough to return for a second year. I hope you had a good time. Many thanks. I'll have a look at the curtain / light situation when I'm next paying a visit to the property. Property Owner

  • "Needs a deep clean, upstairs bathroom needs up date."

    Outside very poor.

Thank you for your feedback. I will inform Sykes that the cleaning needs improvement and will check out the property myself as soon as I can. The patio doors leading to the patio have just been replaced with new doors and they run very smoothly. The outside patio is a small, open space - as described in the details. The proximity of the beach means that the picnic bench / outside furniture must be only that which cannot blow over as the weather can change. There are folding seats for the garden in the cupboard upstairs. The upstairs bathroom has had a new shower fitment in April and all fittings work very well, though I agree, the tiles are showing signs of age and are not looking as good as the updated, downstairs shower room. They will get renewed at some stage. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "Lovely compact ,comfortable property overlooking the sea."

The layout suited us with my disabled mum downstairs with a well appointed bathroom. Access a little bit challenging by the sloping path to the property but manageable. We all enjoyed our stay very much, enhanced by excellent weather. Lots to see and do in the area. Weymouth, Portland Bill, the Swannery, the Wishing Well, Lulworth Cove, all great visits and more besides. The George pub by the harbour was great for food and service . The Crab house cafe at Portland was excellent for sea food and service . Thank you very much . A memorable time . Just to note please . The downstairs bathroom shower head could do with attention as it sprays at all angles .

"A memorable time" ! Very many thanks for this excellent feedback. I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay and that the accommodation was just right for your group and suited your needs well. Thank you for the info about the showerhead. I'm just back from holiday and so I will deal with this at the next changeover. I'm glad you made use of the access via the sloping path from the carpark - it's easier than the steps from the kerb. I hope we can look forward to welcoming you another year. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic place close to the beach."

It’s great that it’s dog friendly but it would be good if the garden was enclosed. My dog managed to wander off towards the road after me looking at the tv for a second. The place says for 4 but would suit 2 people rather than 4. Could do with a smaller dinner table to put up in a small place. Also the downstairs shower needs a new shower head. Other than that the place is comfy, clean, great location. I would go back again with myself and my dog as it’s perfect for the closeness of the beach. Beds were comfy. The place was clean and very tidy. I highly recommend this place to stay.

Thank you for your great feedback for Seaview. I'm pleased you liked the property and its excellent location a stone's throw from the beach. The property description does say it will sleep 4 ( and it has 2 bathrooms) but it specifies that it works best "for a couple or a small family". That's because the compact, kitchen/ lounge/diner living space is less suitable for 4 adults. I'm afraid the garden is open and not enclosed, as per the description, and I'd love to make it work better for dog owners but I am not permtted to add fencing even though that means access onto another property or via a footpath to a road. Thank you for letting me know about the showerhead. I'm delighted that you highly recommend Seaview. Property Owner

  • "We stayed in Seaview, overcombe, Weymouth."

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, very good sizes. Perfect views of the sea from inside and outside, at night you could hear the sea, brilliant. Perfect location. Well equipped, living room a, bit small but OK for 2 people and a dog. Keeping the dog downstairs was difficult as we had to block it off with chairs. She's allowed normally to go upstairs, perhaps some form of a gate would help. Only one thing I would mention, not a complaint a suggestion, the patio area needs fences. We had to go out with her each time as she had no boundaries and tried to wander......I would definitely recommend staying there and we will return. Maggie Sheppard

  • "Positives- perfect location almost on the dog friendly shingle beach with reasonable sea view even from the patio; Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen; Excellent downstairs shower room but upstairs bathroom in need of some tlc."

Negatives - no privacy on the patio from neighbours or the road; space very limited in the living area - it felt like sitting in the kitchen; dining table not really practical with the other furniture in the room; difficult to imagine 4 adults sharing the space; found some discarded items under one of the downstairs beds. However all in all we would come back to this property especially for its location near to this underrated beach.

Many thanks for your useful and sensitively phrased feedback Richard. I'm pleased you enjoyed the location and the property and look forward to your return. The property description and photos do try very hard to portray an accurate image, inluding the negatives you mentioned, as well as the positives. It includes photos of the lounge space and the open patio. It does highlight that it is best suited for a couple or a small family (as it does sleep 4) but you're right in saying that 4 adults might well find it a bit cramped in the small, lounge/ kitchen/ diner space. The settee is on felt pads so it does slide out of the way of the dining table, but is not ideal if dining at the table for all meals. Lap trays are provided to address this when it's not suitable to eat outside. There's no way to make it bigger unfortunately. I'm sorry that the bed had items under it - Sykes manages the property for me and I'll flag this to them. Many thanks for this feedback and I look forward to your return. Property Owner

  • "We chose this as 2 of our party needed a downstairs room with a bathroom."

Which it had. We hadn't realized there were steps to get to the property- which were fairly awquard if you needed a mobility scooter. I would not recommend this cottage for anyone with mobility issues. The equipment once inside could not be faulted, however, for 4 adults the living area was cramped. The table and chairs needed to be pulled out to used. The TV was awkward to see as it was on a side wall, so you would have to move a heavy sofa to watch it comfortably. Outside the bench/picnic table was OK & basic and there was no BBQ.. A nice table and set of chairs and small BBQ would have been so much nicer. A good location for beach, park with amazing cafe and views, 2-mile prom walk to Weymouth, or bus to Weymouth. The local shop for supplies was limited for stock and opening hours.

Many thanks for your feedback . I'm sorry if the property wasn't quite as suitable as you had hoped. The property description and photos do try very hard to portray an accurate image, inluding the details that you mentioned. It includes photos of the lounge space and the open, unfenced patio. It also says it is best suited for a couple or a small family (as it sleeps 4). I'm sorry you found the living area cramped for your group of 4 adults. The settee looks heavy but is on felt pads so it does slide quite easily so you can pull out the dining table. I agree it is not ideal especially if dining at the table for all meals. Lap trays are provided to try to address this when it's not suitable to eat outside. I'm sorry you didn't notice the footpath avoiding the 7 steps. The sloping footpath (with just 2 steps) is at the rear of the car park behind parking spot for property 42. As for the outside furniture, I'd love to be able to provide more comfortable tables and chairs. There is a set of 4 folding chairs in the cupboard upstairs. The heavier picnic table is the most practical, permanent solution to avoid garden furniture being blown about and causing damage whenever it's windy - as the property is very close to the sea. The local shop has the bare essentials I guess but there are a selection of supermarkets on the Dorchester road about 1.5 - 2 miles away. I'm glad you enjoyed the location and the beachside cafes. • "Our only concern is the photo of the property is misleading."

Need to arrow the exact property booked as I thought we were in another unit with the bigger outside terrace.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that the location details are not quite clear enough and I completely agree that these three holiday properties all need an arrow to distinguish one from another. Seaview is the 2nd in from the road. I have tried to clarify this in the property description and the photos do show the view from the lounge. I will request again that an arrow is added as I understand that, in this instance, it is easy to muddle the three similar properties and I fully agree that an arrow would clarify this is a simple way. Cleaning not great in holiday home, Patio Door had Dog marks on them, toilet brush needs to be replaced, dripping tap over kitchen sink, heating only came on some times. Patio door stiff to open, oil applied.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I can only apologise that one of the photos shows a misleading location, as does the drop pin on the linked map: all the comments have already been reported and Sykes will be addressing these issues. For clarity, the property is the 2nd in the row of 8 mixed residential and holiday cottages. The photo from the lounge indicates the sea view is to the left of the visible cottage. There are very pleasant, and quite extensive sea views from the main bedroom and lounge windows as well as from the patio. There is a new fence dividing the first two properties, and this photo will be updated soon. The property has had some good reports on cleanliness and hopefully this was just a blip at a very busy time. Property Owner

The property

Tucked towards the corner of a select development in Preston / Weymouth, Seaview is moments from the beach and enjoys a pleasant sea view, This property is a particularly good choice for a couple but can accommodate a small family of up to 4 people, along with one small, well-behaved dog - the patio is not enclosed.

It is a well-equipped and cosy, holiday cottage with a small, combined, kitchen/lounge/diner.

It is laid out over two floors, with two bedrooms, each on a separate floor with access to its own shower or bathroom.

The downstairs, twin bedded room is served by the adjacent shower room (with full size hand basin and WC) located just off the hall.

Upstairs there is a generous, ensuite bathroom to the main bedroom with a double bed.

This bedroom enjoys far-reaching sea views towards Portland.

The combined kitchen / lounge area is well equipped and nicely suited to preparing meals whilst socialising.

From the lounge area you can enjoy the sea view and there is a pull-out, drop-leaf table with stowaway chairs under.

Step outside via the patio doors and you will find a pleasant, open, outside seating area with picnic bench for outdoor dining.

The patio enjoys a sea view and is a sunny spot, especially for breakfast and evening drinks.

It is tucked away a little from the beach car park and sits towards the corner of the development.

You can relax there, soak up the sun and enjoy the views of the Jurassic coast and the Isle of Portland.

On a windy day you can watch the acrobatics of the kite surfers on the beach.

Portland is famous for its prized Portland stone and also for its National Sailing Academy so it is popular with water sports enthusiasts. Seaview is located by the pebbly Overcombe Beach and there are several water-based activities to be enjoyed here.

Water sports equipment, like wetsuits, kayaks and paddleboards may be hired at the little beachside shop on the Oasis carpark in high season.

Bowleaze Cove, a few minutes walk across the beach also offers a wide range of activities along with cafes and beachside restaurant. If you are looking for the traditional, seaside break for children with buckets and spades, there are the vast, soft, sandy stretches of Weymouth beach with its shallow waters just a few minutes drive away or you can walk there along the esplanade.

There are plenty of interesting activities nearby, along with countryside walks and green open spaces to be enjoyed right from your doorstep.

You can join the South-West coast path and walk towards Ringstead Bay, Osmington Mills and beyond and admire the magnificent views especially back over Weymouth Bay and Portland.

Alternatively, you could head inland to discover the rolling Dorset countryside of Thomas Hardy, visit gardens like Kingston Maurwood or Abbotsbury (with its Swannery) or just explore the quaint villages, like Sutton Poyntz with its excellent country pub.

For dining out from Seaview there are several, relaxed venues in stunning locations that can be reached on foot within a few minutes.

Up the hill from Seaview there is The Spyglass which is open normal pub hours, the Lookout Cafe at the top of Furzy Cliff and of course the Oasis beachfront cafe, which is also just a stones throw from the property.

A wider selection of restaurants including fish specialties can be found in the town and around the harbour area.

It is a flat 2 mile walk along the esplanade into the town and a little further for the harbour. You can spend a pleasant hour or so following the curve of the bay at the seas edge with the waves lapping at your toes all the way round, then maybe take a rest and relax with refreshments at one of the harbourside cafes or restaurants or maybe take a boat ride too. You can drive into Weymouth or you can take a bus from the Oasis Cafe to explore the bustling town centre, the Old Harbour, Nothe Fort and Gardens.

On the Weymouth seafront you can hire deckchairs or relax on the soft sand while the children play.

For those with energy to burn there is Lodmoor Country Park which can be reached on foot if you are feeling energetic or you can park right next to it for a more leisurely visit. Lodmoor encompasses several, small, adventure parks including the Sea Life Centre, Go Karts, Sand World and Pirate Mini Golf as well as having miles of footpaths winding through the Nature Reserve and its ponds.

A stroll along the esplanade itself is a pleasant way to experience the location and provides a gentle exercise for all ages and abilities. With the waves breaking on your left and RSPB Lodmoor birds and wildlife on your right, a break at Seaview is a great way to recharge your batteries.

A stay at Seaview will best suit those wishing for a relaxing holiday next to the beach, close enough to all activities but out of the bustle of the seaside town.
