  • "A charming cottage with ample room for 2 we thoroughly enjoyed our week away 08/03/2024."

Peter made us feel very welcome, He explained all the relevant information to operate all gadgets! Peter was around if needed, but unobtrusive. On the downside, TV not big enough, I've got vision problems, so could not see. Lounge furniture, IE. Sofa and chairs not the most comfortable. I would still recommend Quiet Corner Cottage and would visit it again.

  • "My partner and I returned this year having spent some time last year at Quiet Corner Cottage as we enjoyed our stay there very much."

As the name suggests it is indeed quiet and just what we wanted for a short break. Peter the host is a wonderful man and nothing is a bother with him. He is warm and welcoming and yet respectful of your time spent there. I enjoy the fire and ran out of logs quicker than I anticipated, a quick text to Peter and it was resolved in less than 5 minutes! The cottage is nicely tucked away with free and easy parking. It is quaint and has character but also fully equipped with everything you might need for self catering and Peter will always accommodate you for something you can't find, not that that happened for us. A really good stay and will want to go back again!

The accommodation is all on one level which was ideal for our party and we also had the use of the conservatory adjacent. The property is fully equipped and feels instantly “homely”, it was ideal! In best Somerset tradition, Peter makes apple juice from his own old English orchard and you may find a delicious bottle in the fridge on arrival! Located on the Somerset/Dorset border ‘twixt Sherborne and Shaftesbury, it offers easy access to many NT properties and many fine gardens. There’s plenty for everyone regardless of weather.

Owner was very friendly and informative. And he welcomes any constructive critique,( not that any was necessary to give)!. He has a very good knowledge of the best places to visit, so don't be afraid to pick his brains. The welcome biscuits and the home produced apple juice were a pleasant treat. More of the delicious juice can be purchased on site. And we did! There are several National trust sites and houses within easy reach if you are interested in visiting these sort of places. Weymouth is worth a trip. Tip - if you have a disability parking badge, you can park on the seafront during the day. This was free from 9am until 5pm, but things can change! Plus they have free to hire beach wheelchairs. We had a thoroughly great break.

  • "Wonderful place!"

We had a great time at Quiet Corner Cottage. We spent our evenings at the fireplace and travelled around the area during the day. Peter is amazing host and gave us useful recommendations about places to visit. And he makes delicious apple juice! The cottage is simple but comfortable. The stone walls breath well so the air is fresh even if all windows closed and the heating is on and the fireplace burning. The interior is lovely, with cosy old furniture. The farm is tranquil and peaceful, the small garden in front of the cottage is well maintained and beautiful even in December. We had a really good rest and felt relaxed and recharged after our stay. It would be nice to stay at this place again!

We have just spent a week's vacation at a unique place, 'Quiet Corner Cottage', in Henstridge, Somerset. It is like going back to a different era of peace and solitude. It is run by a unique man, Peter Thompson, what a wonderful character, full of help and information. Enter the 18th century farm annex by a gravel drive and you enter a new world of trees and some sheep. You can sit under a canopy and hear nothing. Visit the local pub, 'Bird In Hand', and be with people without problems or anger. If you like cider, try the Gladiator or Old Rosie. We walked Gold Hill, Shaftesbury a few times, postman there had to have good legs. Keep clear of the single track roads, they go on forever.

As before, everything was in good order, and Peter was as attentive and caring to our comfort as previously. The weather was not good but that worked to our advantage as we relaxed in the Cottage & garden environment, taking walks in the village, and befriending one or two local people. We left Quiet Corner Cottage with batteries recharged, and ready to take on the world!!

  • "Quiet Corner Cottage lived up to it's name completely and was the perfect break both I and my partner needed, having both lost a parent each recently among other life difficulties."

It literally had every item conceivable in a self catering capacity and offered everything required for a comfortable, pleasant and enjoyable stay in a beautifully quirky cottage. The highlight for me was an easy to use log burner which was amply supplied with extra logs (additional charge if using more, as we did, but very reasaonable), kindling, newspaper, firefighters, long matches and lighter. When lit it happily burned for quite some time before needing to be stoked with more wood and provided such a lovely homely feel on top of the glowing warmth. It was secure, off the beaten track and car parking sufficient for 2 cars, up a farm track with a gated entry. You then enter the cottage from a small walled garden, again with everything a garden could offer for the summer. Peter, the host was outstanding from first meeting him and being guided in all you needed to know to being treated respectfully but on hand throughout our stay to the parting goodbye on leaving. He also furnishes you with a bottle of home made apple juice, award winning and you can taste why. He is a fountain of knowledge and in my opinion, a true gentleman with great regard to ensuring your stay is in every way perfect for you. One of the very few truly great places I have stayed in and without doubt will be returning here many times to come. Genuinely couldn't recommend Quiet Corner Cottage more to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay in a home from home setting.

The Host Peter is such a lovely person, which made our stay extra special. He was so thorough with so much information and was always prepared to help providing us ideas on what to do around the area and how to get there. The garden, the hens, the ponies add a special touch to the lovely farm. Last but not the least, the home-made apple juice is just so tasty!! We want to thank Peter so much for his hospitality and for allowing us to stay in his property, we could unwind and refuell which was just what we needed. The stay was one of the best!!!

We loved the welcome from the hens everyday when we left or returned. The cottage is set within a very pretty peaceful garden. We enjoyed walks from the cottage into the village and via rural footpaths. A fabulous base to visit Old Wardour Castle, Cadbury Castle, Old Sarum Hillfort, St Peters Pump, King Alfred's Tower, Glastonbury Tor and Abbey, Muchelney Abbey and Church, Stonehenge and Cheddar Gorge including the rather challenging 4 mile cliff walk amongst others. A very busy and restorative week.

The garden area was secure and beautiful with table/chairs/benches & a bbq. Peter the owner was around if you needed him but kept a respectful distance, so the owners being next door was far from a problem. Peter was a walking book of knowledge, anything you wanted to know, he knew! Pubs, restaurants, walks, places of interest, days out, you name it he could he advise! There were many maps on hand to help. The cottage had games for a rainy day. The water supply was constantly hot. The log burner was fantastic for those chilly summer nights. The cottage is an ideal base from which to visit the quaint local towns and nearby National Trust properties. Peter, the owner, made us feel very welcome and, if something should arise at the cottage that needs his attention, he is usually to be found somewhere close by tending to the orchard's apple trees from which he makes delicious apple juice!
