  • "The house was nice, beds were comfortable, the shower was terrible, no water pressure at all."

I'm sorry about the water pressure, we will check the issue and ensure it is resolved. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

  • "Thank you for a wonderful stay."

The cottage was just perfect for me and my dog. Thank you also, for the welcome gift. With intolerances, I really did appreciate that Esther had provided gluten/dairy free shortbread and nut milk, along with some lovely flowers. Also, the meadows around the site had freshly cut pathways through them, making the early morning and late evening walkabout easier to navigate. Perfect spot to visit all the local attractions along the Jurrasic coast. Many thanks

It was lovely to meet you. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay."

Thank you so much for going to the extra effort of fitting a stair gate, we really appreciate the trouble. Lovely cream tea gift on arrival and the sheep and view were such a welcome surprise! Kids had a great time playing on the field and we loved being about to eat outside and enjoy the sunset. The Linhay was clean, comfortable and had everything we could need. We loved the artwork and decor throughout and would definitely recommend it to others.

It was so lovely to see meet you and see you in the evenings enjoying the late summer sun. Absolutely no problem. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in a good location to explore West Dorset."

The adjacent road could be heard but did not disturb our stay. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The beds were very comfortable and you can clearly see how improvements are being made. However, the kitchen and bathroom are tired. The kitchen contained too many unnecessary items eg butter dish/toast rack, but no large glasses or bowls. This made it hard to find space to store our food and lack of work suface made it hard to prepare meals. The bathroom also lacked storage space and the shower was mouldy. This did not affect our enjoyment but with further improvement and updating this could be an even better place to stay.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay and apologise for areas you found wanting. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

  • "Thank you for a lovely stay at the Linhay."

Esther and John are very friendly, attentive and helpful hosts. We followed their suggestions and had great meals in nearby local restaurants (The Crown Inn and New Inn). The nearest beaches and shops are just a 10-minute drive. The Linhay has breath-taking views and fields close by to walk a dog. The cottage is well appointed, very clean and comfortable with attractive artwork on the walls by Esther herself. We were greeted with complimentary clotted cream, scones and Dorset cider. The kitchen is well equipped and includes milk, sugar, coffee and tea. Our children loved the complimentary games and settee with flip-up foot rests and our dog could explore the enclosed courtyard safely. It is a beautiful spot and we would thoroughly recommend it. Sykes also made the whole booking process easy and straight forward Thanks again for a lovely holiday!

  • "Whilst we enjoyed our stay, we felt that the road noise was not highlighted on the listing."

This was incredibly loud and made it difficult to sleep especially when it got busier in the mornings. If this had been noted on the listing we would probably not have booked the property. There are no images showing how close the property is to the road and it is described as a rural setting. The shower was also an issue - I'm not sure if this was faulty or not, but we could not get this to regulate temperature, despite both trying each day of our stay. When left on a setting, it still ran both freezing and boiling throughout the shower. Even when the temperature was turned down to the coldest setting mid-shower to mitigate the hot temperature, it still ran hot. The windows in the bedrooms also seemed to have faults - one did not stay open properly and kept self-closing, the chains were broken and the double bedroom had no blind on one of the windows, making it bright in the mornings.

  • "Lovely, comfy, clean cottage, everything you need for a home from home stay."

We didn't have good weather and was lovely to come back to a warm cosy cottage to dry off (airer provided for wet clothes) and relax. Outside space is great for sitting out and checking out the view of the surrounding countryside (weather permitting) and enclosed for your dog/children to be safe. Kitchen fully equipped for cooking or just warming your take away in the oven or microwave. Sofa has recliners which is such a bonus when been out walking all day. The bed was really comfy great bedding and pillows (the only issue was the frame was a bit 'squeaky' something the owners are probably not aware of but didn't disturb us too much). The cottage is well decorated and has beautiful artwork all around which we learnt was all the owners work. The only thing we felt was missing was somewhere to put your toilet bag in the bathroom – there is plenty of room to put a shelf or small table All in all this is a fabulous cottage as a base to explore and the owners go above and beyond providing more than you would expect when you arrive, from extra loo rolls to the award winner bottle of cider in the fridge, tea, coffee, sugar, a fabulous cream tea and fresh flowers on the table. Lots of books to read, games to play and even your four legged friend is not forgotten as they even have a puzzle for them to do too! Would we recommend this cottage to family/friends? We already have and will be back.

What lovely feedback. Thank you. We will have a look at the bed and sort out the creaking. I spotted some shelves today. We hope to see you again. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

  • "This cottage was perfect for our family of three, including our six year old."

It's safe, very comfortable and we loved the art! The owners are a lovely couple, quick to respond and gave us ideas for what to do in the area. It rained a lot during our stay so we didn't get to sit outside much, which was a shame because the views are indeed gorgeous. It was a little bit hard to find the turning off the main road in the night, we checked in late. The trick is to point your GPS to 'The Travellers Rest'. The shower room is downstairs, not on the 1st floor - so we did have to go downstairs in the night, not a problem for us but may be an issue for some. It's a comfortable little cottage - the shower has good, strong pressue - much better than in my house! Lots of electricity plugs, all the lights worked, nice to have bedside tables and lamps. Lots of storage space in both bedrooms. It was our first trip to Bridport, what a lovely town. We went to the markets on Saturday and it was glorious, so many stalls and shops, people, music etc - really great markets. We will come back with more friends next time and hire a couple of cottages.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and exploring West Dorset. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

About the location

BRIDPORT

Lyme Regis 10 miles; West Bay 2 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
