  • "Enjoyed our stay at the Nook."

Lovely little quiet village with a dog friendly pub at the bottom of the village. We will definitely visit again

  • "Attractive cottage in an attractive and friendly village."

Local shop and pub. Beautiful walks in the area and a bus to Blandford Forum or Shaftesbury. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

  • "The Nook is a warm cottage in a lovely friendly village full of history."

There are footpaths off in all directions for dog walking and a village shop that supplied us for the week.

  • "A pleasant little cottage but a few things could improve it."

The shower seemed to lack power and the bathroom in general could do with some updating. The bedrooms were very small and we think this should be mentioned in the particulars. Nice little garden and very quiet location in a beautiful village. OK for a short stay.

  • "Having rented cottages many times previously, I was surprised to find that there was no washing machine available ."

I think the details describing the cottage should state that there isn’t one.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage and thank you for the wine and biscuits, very much needed after a horrendous drive in the foul weather."

The Nook is in a brilliant location within this beautiful village and everyone was really friendly. Something for the owners to think about is a lack of a drawer unit in the bedrooms leaving only the divan drawers to put all your clothes in and if there were four people staying there would be a fight over the 10 coat hangers. If I were to be really picky a mat for the bathroom floor would be good and a tea towel (although I think this may just have been an oversight given all the other cleaning items provided) and maybe the cushions for the patio furniture could be put in the cottage as we could frustratingly see them through the window of the locked outbuilding. The above are all things that would neither prevent us staying at the Nook again nor recommending it to others.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Nook. Thank you for your feedback, it is really helpful to ensure our guests have a great stay. It is a shame you were unable to access the garden cushions and other furniture in the outbuilding as it is unlocked but perhaps a rather stiff door. We will leave a note for guests to let them know these items are available. Apologies, the bath mat and tea towels omissions were an oversight by the housekeeper. We hope to see you again at The Nook. Property Owner

About the location

Salisbury 21 miles; Bath 30 miles.

One of Dorset’s prettiest and most historic towns, Shaftesbury is perched on a spur of rolling green hills, and the views in all directions are without comparison. Lush green meadows, woodland glades and outstanding architecture are all within a short walk. One of the best vantage points is from Gold Hill (Ridley Scott's famous Hovis advert was filmed here) with its quaint, cobbled and very steep street. Visit the ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey (a place of great pilgrimage from the 11th century) or navigate the intricate and ancient lanes. Bath, Salisbury and Sherborne are all under an hour away, or drive through the stunning countryside of Blackmoor Vale down to the coast at Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth. A beautiful area, that still carries the flavour of the very best of the English countryside.
