  • "We had a lovely time staying at the Shippen and it was perfect for our family holiday."

Very quiet in a beautiful countryside location and a good base to explore Somerset from. The property was immaculate, very clean and we had everything we needed. Bed and pillows were so comfortable and just what we needed after a long day out. Plenty of towels and nice shower. Kitchen area was great and whilst there wasn’t much room to store food, this wasn’t a problem and we managed just fine. It was a nice touch having tea/coffee/sugar and some milk in the fridge when we arrived. The kids loved the outdoor area and we liked sitting with the back doors open in the evening as the day cooled down. Good to have the dvds, Amazon fire stick and a couple of games (although we apologise for spoiling the peaceful evenings when dobble and snakes and ladders became too competitive!). Thanks for a great stay. We’d definitely come again.

  • "Just returned from a week's holiday at The Shippen, absolutely fantastic log cabin in a lovely rural area, loads of places to visit near by, Lyme Regis and Bridport are lovely places."

The owners were very friendly and checked in on us to see if everything was fine and if we needed anything. We would definitely stop here again .

  • "The Shippen was even better than we expected."

We really enjoyed staying there and our girls loved being able to play in the garden with the doors to the living room left wide open for them to come and go as they pleased. We also enjoyed the regular visits from various birds in the garden and the sound of birdsong. Lovely little village and also great location for exploring other areas further afield such as the Jurassic coast.

  • "A really great place to get away from it all."

So quiet, and at night really dark as there's no air pollution. Everything you need is there, although with a bit of tweaking more storage space for the kitchen. Unfortunately not a lot of work/prep space in the kitchen. But a good hob and oven. Really great hot water all the time. A great nights sleep in one of the most comfortable beds you'll find. Good Broadband and loved Netflix etc. Sarah was really helpful, and loved the nice little touch of chocolates and a bottle of milk in the fridge. If in the area, would go back for the solitude. Great butchers and Chinese takeaway in Crewkerne. After over 18 months since our last break, it was nice to get away and have a change.

  • "We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the accommodation."

Seat cushions on the kitchen chairs were dirty and stained. The oven was dirty as were some of the oven trays. We felt we had to wash everything before being able to use them. My husband went round with my stick and a cloth to get rid of cobwebs. The photographs of the property were misleading making the place look bigger than it actually was. We were also plagued by gnats and were unable to open the doors and windows. Apart from that we had an enjoyable holiday.

Dear Mr & Mrs Hardingham, I wish to apologise, in writing, which I have done by phone also. It was such a shame your experience was spoilt by the fact I employed a cleaner for the first time prior to your visit. The job of cleaning was obviously not carried out properly and has now been rectified. So glad you enjoyed your holiday in Somerset in spite of this. You are welcome back to a very clean Shippen any time. Property Owner

The location was idyllic and the cottage was perfect. The bathtub was amazing and the beds very comfortable. The owners were quite helpful as well.

The cabin was everything we thought it would be; clean and tidy and within easy reach of all the places we wanted to go and we would definitely go back again. When we stepped in my jaw dropped, the décor is so lovely.

It is located in a beautiful village called Merriott that is central to many attractions, towns and beaches. The Shippen is beautifully furnished and has a real home from home feel about it. I would highly recommend this property and I will certainly be booking a stay again in the future.

  • "We had a really lovely holiday at the Shippen, the cottage was lovely and clean and the garden was a quiet space to sit at the end of the day."

The only thing missing was a freezer, we brought all our food with us so that we could limit shop visits, we had to throw some away because we couldn’t keep it frozen. Apart from that we loved our holiday

  • "Lovely cottage, really nice high spec, very cosy/comfortable and in good location for south coast for West Bay, Seaton and Beer (for example) and to north the Quantock Hills for mountain biking/walking and north coast and the wonderful West Somerset Steam Railway."

Kitchen area slightly cramped for 4 of us, but was no big deal and we had expected this from the photos/reviews. Good location with nice pub only 10 mins away, serving good beer and food. Good wi-fi connection and smart TV with Netflix/Amazon for those Autumn evenings of film watching, which was a nice bonus. Had a fab week and would go again, with no hesitation.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at The Shippen."

It was really comfortable, clean and warm. The bed was especially comfortable. The only thing that let it down was the size of the kitchen, which looked bigger in the picture. However, it was very small and cramped, with hardly any counter space, and there was not a cupboard where we could put the supplies which we brought with us. Also the fridge is very large, but a fridge freezer would have been better. It was nice to have the smart TV with Freeview Play and Amazon Prime, as being the winter, we watched the TV a lot in the evenings. There was some milk in the fridge when we arrived, also a nice plant on the window sill, lovely welcoming touches. The Shippen is very convenient for several National Trust properties, and not too far from the coast. The owners were unobtrusive, in fact we only saw Nick once, just after we arrived. All in all we had a good relaxing break, and the weather was really kind to us.

  • "Fantastic accommodation, so cosy and warm, perfect with a baby."

Cot and highchair kindly provided. Lovely outside space. So many places to visit nearby, National Trust properties are beautiful and plentiful. Coast within 30 mins drive. Such a great county to explore and its sadly overlooked as people pass through to go to Devon and Cornwall. I thoroughly recommend The Shippen to eveyone and wouldn't hesitate to rebook on our next trip to Somerset. Thank you

  • "The owners of the Shippen have paid so much attention to detail I cannot fault this beautiful accommodation."

There was even a fresh pint of milk in the fridge to go with the tea and coffee supplied, this was very welcome after a long journey. The fresh flowers in the window were also a nice touch. The double bed which is adjustable was so comfy. The Shippen is ideally located for discovering all that this beautiful area has to offer.

It is beautiful accommodation that is situated in a quiet little village which supplies a peaceful break. It is however, central to lots of other locations such as Lyme Regis, Dorchester, Glastonbury and much more which are all just over half an hours drive. The Shippen has everything you need and we feel it is like home from home and enjoyed it so much last year that we came back this year. It was very clean and tidy and when we arrived there were some freshly cut flowers in the window, those sorts of finishing touches are lovely. Thank you to both Sarah and Nick xx

We were going to stay in Travelodges nearby but soooo glad we found this only a few days before our holiday started. It was cheaper too! The cottage is superb. It was really lovely to stay somewhere almost brand new. The cottage is well thought through and was very clean and well presented. Although we were staying during the 2018 heatwave, we think it would be very cosy for an autumn or even a winter stay. Thoroughly recommended.
