  • "Downs View worked wonderfully for our 90th birthday celebration with 4 generations present."

The kitchen was well equipped, cottage pleasantly furnished, plenty of room for everyone. Lynne, the property owner was very attentive and helpful. We would have been hard pressed to find anywhere that would have met our needs better.

  • "Great house -- we had a really good stay."

Lots of living space -- large living room, kitchen/dining room and conservatory (which has excellent heating so you can use it even in winter) with another big table and chairs. Not all of us could get a mobile signal but the wifi worked fine. Really well-equipped kitchen, beds comfy, everything worked, and the owner was really responsive and helpful. We appreciated the tasty treats left for us, and the Xmas decorations! (We stayed over new year.) The only downside for us was no walking from the front door -- it's on a pretty busy road and no paths -- but that was really only a problem because the weather was terrible and it was hard to tell how many minutes we had till the next downpour. Lots of nice places a short drive away though.

Thank you so much for all your positive comments it’s lovely when our guests take the time to leave feedback on their stay and experiences they have had. So pleased you found the property large enough and it had everything you needed just unfortunate about the bad weather but unfortunately we can’t do anything about that sadly. We are always happy to help where we can with anything our guests require and I think we need to look a little more at walks near by for all. Once again thank you and so please you had a lovely time Property Owner

  • "This is quirky cottage which we found very pleasing."

It's big enough for us plus our extended family. It's kept clean and it is comfortable. Close to Bath and Longleat.. Because you have to back the car out of the drive it does make it difficult to get out. Although you do get used to turning the car using the entrance to the farm. Be aware as we had some problems with heating and hot water. Getting hold of the owners is difficult because of signal and internet problems. The owners live in the house next door. They are happy for you to knock on their door if any problems. We could have done with this information at the time of our visit.

Thank you for your feedback we do appreciate all feedback that our guests take the time to share. Really pleased you had a lovely comfortable stay and found DownsView larger than expected. This is most guests reactions which is lovely to hear and well worth mentioning. Longleat is always a favourite for most guests that stay here at DownsView and the Christmas Festival of Lights is also a big attraction there for this time of year as is Bath’s Christmas Market which you thought was well worth a visit. Sorry you found getting in and out of the driveway difficult but this was explained that it’s a safety feature that the council insisted was put In place but we will look to see if anything can be done to make it a little easier in the future. As you mentioned there is a very large entrance off the road that is shared with the farm so more than ample space for turning. We are sorry you had some issues with the heating and hot water which you did make us aware of and we did rectify all of this to your satisfaction at the time , you also thank us for our prompt response however we wasn’t made aware of any other issues until your last day we had a message from yourself about no water but when we came you said you had no issues at all so not really sure why you have put this in your comments. I would like to point out that there is a landline in the property that all guests have access to in case of any emergencies. However I don’t think any of what you experienced effaced your stay I’m pleased to say as you stayed a extra night and said you was looking to return next year to visit Well Christmas Market which we ourselves haven’t visited yet so looking forward to that and to welcoming you again. Many thanks for all at DownsView Property Owner

Lots of crockery etc. Pillows on a couple of the beds are a little soft. Children loved seeing the cows at the garden fence. There is lots of traffic on B road but it didn’t affect us at all. Lots to see and do within 30-45 mins drive.

Thank you for your comments it’s always nice that our guests take the time to leave us feedback. We are so pleased you found the property spacious and well equipped and you enjoyed the garden overlooking the meadows where the children found the inquisitive cows gathering to do a little people watching of their own. Lovely cottage only problem was it was a bit damp bedding was very damp some windows don't open so that doesn't help other than that had a great holiday great location

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback Lovely to hear you enjoyed the cottage and it’s great location. I am however very surprised to see your comments about the bedding as you hadn’t mention any of this whilst you was staying here and had you brought any of this to our attention when you first noticed this or seen any of us we would have looked and dealt with your concerns. The bedding is kept in an airing cupboard and all beds freshly made the day you arrived and windows opened to allow the cottage to air. I can’t see any reason for the “damp bedding” and surly it would have been picked up when making the beds one would have thought!!!!! Pleased to see this didn’t effect your stay and you enjoyed yourselves and the surrounding area as lots to see and do. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely amazing stay in this spacious, clean and well equipped house."

The owners were so helpful and friendly answering all of our questions and doing all they could to accommodate our needs and welcome us. They are by far the best we have ever dealt with. Our check in experience on arrival day was also the best we have ever had and we can’t thank the owners enough for being so accommodating to our situation. They left welcoming gifts and it was an absolute pleasure arriving to find this total gem of a house. The fenced gardens were immaculate with plenty of seating. Great for the dogs to play without any worries of them wondering away from the property. The house itself is fantastic and more like a dream home. The layout is perfect and there is so much space for everyone. Brilliant modern bathrooms and showers and a fantastic deep bath with all the hot water you need and everything was ultra clean. There is a very spacious living room with plenty of seating and a good sized tv with plenty of channels. A wonderful light and sunny conservatory has a large dining table and it was so nice to enjoy food with the patio doors open on a summers evening enjoying the smells and sounds of the countryside. The beds were all very comfortable and actually everyone slept better than when at home! Finishing with the big ultra clean and very well equipped kitchen and utility areas. There is everything you could need and the owners have gone above and beyond to make sure guests have the best stay possible. Longleat safari park is so close to the house and there are little towns and villages very close with all the shops and services you will need. We can’t recommend this place highly enough and we have already started looking at dates to come back. Unfortunately after doing four Longleat safari trips we still didn’t see Anne the elephant so absolutely a must we come back!! And we can’t wait to enjoy this wonderful house again when we do. Thank you so much to the owners.

Thank you so very much for taking the time and effort to write such wonderful things about your stay at Downs View and so very pleased you had a such a lovely time with us. Your feedback is very much appreciated and we do hope you will come again and hopefully you will see Anne the elephant on your next trip. It is very important to us that our guests feel very welcomed and have a positive and most enjoyable stay so thank you again for all your positivity in your feedback we couldn’t ask for a better review. • "Well equipped kitchen and the layout suited our family well."

Internal decoration modern and clean, the outside in need of some TLC. Lovely meadow view from the back. We had problems with hot water but this was quickly fixed by the host who arranged for work while we were out. While our fault for not doing more research, the road noise was more than "some" partly I would guess as it was half-term. With cars passing at fast speeds we couldn't risk taking children on walks from the property with no pavements. It also meant that driving in and out of the property was sometimes a challenge.

Thank you for you feedback it’s always welcomed. The property is very versatile so can accommodate a lot of different families and their need’s which you and a lot of our guests do enjoy. Sorry you had an issue with hot water but very pleased we was able to resolve the problem whilst you was out enjoying your day and it didn’t effect you too much and thank you for your patience. Yes we agree the property does have some wonderful views both front and back and you can see the downs in the distance. If you are up early the sunrise can be spectacular to see from the comfort of the back garden. I’m a little surprised you found getting in and out of the driveway a “little challenging” as the driveway entrance is very very wide so you do have a very good view of the road in both directions, not normally a problem but you must of just caught it at a bad time I’m guessing. Unfortunately you don’t find many pavements in the countryside not like you would find in the towns and cities. Very sorry you couldn’t take the children out for a walk but I’m sure they still had a lovely time and you all enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "The driveway could home 3 cars easily if they are small cars."

The hedges were very overgrown unlike in the picture, this made it difficult for larger cars to get up the driveway with very little space for getting out of the car. Considering there were 8 adults and a baby on our stay 2.5 toilet rolls was not really sufficient luckily we did bring some of our own, nor was one bin bag or just 2 dishwasher tablets. The house itself was lovely lots of space and each bedroom has its own theme of decoration which we all really liked. The garden and view at the back of the house was lovely as well. Unfortunately we did find some dog mess on the grass which must have been left from a previous guest. The location is perfect for a trip to longleat just a 15 minute drive, pretty much every direction you leave the house from has a stunning view. All in all we would recommend it for a large group but bear in mind you should take essentials that you would not normally think of.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased you had a lovely time and found Downs view the perfect location to be. Due to the wildlife making their homes in the hedges and being it is in the countryside we do not cut them back until they have all vacated. We are sorry you found it difficult to park your cars but despite the hedges it is possible to park 4 to 5 family cars in the driveway which most visitors manage. We do also inform all visitors that we DO NOT provide dishwasher tables, toilet rolls etc for your entire stay BUT we do however provide a small amount for your arrival including tea, coffees, biscuits or cake which you didn’t mention just to get you started after your journeys here, after all the accommodation is a SELF CATERING one. We do welcome dogs and always check the grounds for any missed mess by dogs owners or the local foxes so very sorry you found something. Great to hear you found the bungalow spacious with room to move around and we are also pleased you liked the themed rooms. The views are wonderful and thank you for your recommendation we hope you will come again. Property Owner

If you are not familiar with this area, you will find you can travel north or south from Knoll Farm Bungalow (aka Downs View) and find something for everyone. Yes, most roads here are north or south, but the A303 (worth avoiding on a busy day) runs east/west and it is only 4 miles from the bungalow. Having said that, Bath is 26 miles north, and it is easy driving through hills and vales. Day trips to the Jurassic coast, Corfe, Swanage on the Isle of Purbeck, are a little further in the opposite direction. Frome 8 miles north has large supermarkets. Equally, we all enjoyed wandering over the road from the bungalow to walk the 1km top ridge of "Long Knoll", up to 288m above sea level, admiring views and the Covid-19 NHS "ribbon of light" installation by a local artist. Our activities ranged from easy walking or cycling of canal tow paths (Dundas), to kayaking rivers (Wareham), watching steam trains, seeing museums, and farm animals.(City Farm, Bath) This bungalow has 2 electric showers each in a separate room (with toilet) which enable an immediately warm, quick, shower ready for your fun packed day. One of the showers also shares it's room with a bath. There is also a separate toilet room. 3 Toilets was enough for our group. The advert for this bungalow mentions road noise, we think for light sleepers you will probably need to relocate to the back bedroom with your ear plugs to get to sleep. The large comfortable lounge and conservatory/dining area are very quiet at the back of the house even with the occasional heavy lorry that rumbles past at any hour of the day or night. Plenty of towels were provided. If you can't live without your large bath sheet/towel bring it with you. The duvets are very warm and cosy. If you can't live without your thin summer duvet, bring it with you. Any issues and the new owners (July 2020) are very thoughtful and quick to respond. We rate them very highly.
