“The Engine Room was small but that was expected, it was perfect for a short break for a couple wanting to get away from it all.”

The property owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and once she had shown us around and pointed out everything we needed to know we had 100% privicy. We were only there for a couple of nights so didn't have too much time to explore, because of this it would've been helpful to have a map of walks in the area to hand in the property (those that could be done from the door step). The Abbey is a must to visit, the views are breathtaking. The local pub was welcoming and friendly though ...

The property owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and once she had shown us around and pointed out everything we needed to know we had 100% privicy. The Abbey is a must to visit, the views are breathtaking. The local pub was welcoming and friendly though the sample menu on their website didn't give a true flavour of the meals on offer. That said the food was perfectly ok and reasonably priced. We wouldn't hesitate to return to the property and will be using Sykes to find properties for short breaks in the future.

The property

The Engine Room is a converted fire station; turned thatched cottage and is located in Milton Abbas, Dorset.

It was founded in the late 1700’s and stands in the grounds of one of the delightful thatched white washed cob cottages which line both sides of the street.

To the rear of the cottage is a vast woodland with a small lake capturing some of the best sights Dorset has to offer on your doorstep.

It is perfect for couples. The property opens to an open plan living room with a TV and WiFi, a dining area and fitted kitchen.

It has one double bedroom with an adjacent shower room and WC.

There is a private courtyard with furniture and access to the chiminea. Its surrounding area offers many footpaths which lead around the lake to Milton Abbey.

Not to forget the magnificent view from Bulbarrow Hill which reaches across Wessex.

It is within driving distance of the Georgian market town of Blandford and stretch of the Jurassic coastline. Further afield lies the village of Milborne St. Andrew, the valley is named for the seasonal stream which runs from springs high up on the chalk downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering glorious walks and superb views. Discover Dorchester; a vibrant town for sightseeing and shopping but also home to Dorchester's museums and shops, walk the walks, drink great coffee, eat great food and take trips to the Jurassic coast.
