The property

Shepton Mallet 3 miles.

This substantial detached timber lodge, in the grounds of the owner's livestock farm in the Mendip Hills, is situated near to the market town of Shepton Mallet in Somerset.

The lodge makes a perfect peaceful base for families or friends wanting to explore the picturesque Mendip Hills.

Set in a beautiful, quiet position overlooking a lake, the tastefully furnished interior provides a roomy, open plan living area, accentuated by the high ceilings and large windows which frame superb views.

The lodge offers two generous bedrooms and a spacious shower room, together with a large, open plan living area with dining area and a hand-built kitchen from locally-sourced oak, with black granite worktops.

Outside, the extensive timber-decked veranda is a great place to enjoy an alfresco meal whilst taking in the views across the carp lake toward the distant hills.

You can also watch the ducks and geese on the lake.

A short drive from the lodge is the renowned Royal Bath and West Showground, which has regular events throughout the year, including flea markets and antique fairs and not forgetting the annual agricultural show.

Also, short drives away are Wells, England’s smallest city and home to the magnificent cathedral and Bishop’s Palace, Glastonbury, home to the Abbey and Tor, Cheddar Gorge and the cities of Bristol and Bath.

This cottage is an ideal base to visit one of the many picturesque towns and villages in this beautiful part of the country.

The historic town of Shepton Mallet is a delightful mixture of old and new, with some wonderful old architecture and a weekly market, plus a variety of shops, pubs and eateries. Shepton Mallet is set in the Mendip foothills, and is at the geographical heart of the Mendip District, between the villages of Evercreech and Doulting. This is a beautiful landscape, with unique places to visit and activities for everyone. Shepton Mallet is home to the Royal Bath and West Showground; one of Britain's major agricultural shows is held here annually in May/June, and many other events are staged throughout the year. The town is positioned close to Wells, Glastonbury and Bath, and many family attractions including Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves and East Somerset Railway are all within a 45-minute drive. With the scrumptious local cider an ideal tipple after a day exploring this part of Somerset, all in all you'd be hard-pressed to find a better holiday base.
