About the location

MONTACUTE

Yeovil 4 miles; Long Sutton 8 miles; Glastonbury 19 miles.

The historic, medieval Somerset village of Montacute is nearby Yeovil and most well known for the National Trust's impressive Montacute House, a stunning Elizabethan mansion built for Sir Edward Phelips, the prosecutor of Guy Fawkes. The house is set in beautiful gardens and has been widely used as a film set, notably in 'Sense and Sensibility' and 'Wolf Hall'. The village centre and conservation area features an array of picturesque hamstone cottages, two thriving pubs and a Post Office. Locally, there are lovely walks to be had to the nearby Ham Hill and St Michael's Hill with it's folly and it's wonderful views across the Somerset Levels and beyond. Alternatively, enjoy a day out at Yeovilton's Fleet Air Arm Museum, or Haynes Motor Museum, explore mystical Glastonbury, or the UK's smallest city, Wells, with its majestic cathedral. With medieval Sherborne and the scenic Dorset coastline both within an hours drive away, you will find that a week is not nearly long enough to enjoy everything on offer within a short drive of this lovely Somerset village!
