Lovely spacious place. Very private with easy parking. Nice and quiet yet handy for everything. Easy walk along the front to town in 10 minutes. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

  • "We had a very comfortable stay at Hillview and would definitely consider returning."

It's a superb location close to the sea front and town, and even closer to walk down to the beach for a dip in the sea at the end of a day out. We loved the bright spacious living room - which meant when the weather was unseasonably wet, it was a nice bright room to sit in and relax. The children loved the view of the downs from their bedroom window, and the main bedroom felt spacious. We had everything we needed in the property, except perhaps a larger airer for wet clothes. (We found the over-bath airer a bit small and couldn't locate a larger one in the property). All in all, a lovely comfortable property with easy allocated parking space and we had everything we needed for our two-week stay. (We enjoyed consuming the lovely goodies in the welcoming basket, thank you)

However, we were surprised to find the kitchen, bathroom and shower room were dirty, we do not normally find this with Sykes properties. The kitchen knives were blunt and there was no bread knife, and most of the saucepans were unusable. It is a shame as the accommodation is otherwise good.

  • "Great location, close to the beach and town centre."

Spacious apartment, parking included and good WiFi. Slightly old fashioned decor but very comfortable all the same. Nice welcome gifts were much appreciated. The only complaint was the cleanliness of the kitchen contents. Obviously the previous people hadn't washed up properly; pots, plates, crockery etc had food residue so needed to be hot washed before use. Soon sorted and left spotless for the next tenants!

Thank-you for your feedback we will add the pots and pans to the checklist. Property Owner

There were extras like dvds and interesting books about the local area or just for something to read. There was even beach chairs and buckets and spades so anything forgotten would have been catered for. It is a very spacious property and so close to the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return again next year.

  • "Good location with parking, easy access and nice welcome gifts."

The property is tired and lacking some basic essentials (no decent size glasses, bread knife(!) no loo brush upstairs and badly fitting loo seats!) Bedroom light not working and lack of plug sockets all round. Plenty of space, some new carpets, nice lounge and sofa's but house lacking cleaning detail. Not a disaster but could be so much better with a little extra thought and detailing.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, the bread knife had been hidden by a previous holidaymaker, who had young children, and they never mentioned it to us. It is now back in the utensil holder. We have a whole selection of glasses from sherry glasses, whiskey tumblers and wine glasses and water tumblers. Guests are welcome to bring their own favourite size tumbler. Bedroom lights have been checked and are all working. There are 3 spare plug sockets in the bedroom. The cleaning detail is thorough, and includes dusting light bulbs and cleaning tops of doors and skirting boards, and generally we strive for perfection. We are sorry there was any disappointment. Accommodation spacious and comfortable. It is a bit dated but equipped with everything we needed. Very useful to have a designated parking space too. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Swanage and surrounding areas and would happily stay at Hill View again

The kitchen is the most dated part of the property and we hope to replace this in 2023. Otherwise the look is vintage on purpose to give holidaymakers a sense of nostalgia and relaxation from the pressures of modern life. Property Owner

Property a bit dated but very comfortable. All modern appliances and plenty of hot water. A little grip was there was only 3 mugs, plenty of cups but being northerners we like a mug of tea ;-) A good base for exploring Dorset's coastal towns and surrounding areas. Would book again if going down to Swanage/Dorset.

  • "The property was as described in the listing."

It is a very short walk to the beach and the town. The owner is very approachable and helpful. The decor has a deliberate period feel. Which might not be to everybody’s taste. But the amenities make up for it. The heating worked great. As did all the appliances we used. The Wi-Fi did blip on Netflix from time to time. The cleanliness of the rooms was good. Unfortunately the shower still had some sand left from the previous occupant. Our stay was whilst Storm Eunice happened and we were comfortable and found it easy to live in. If you have a dog or children there is a park 5 minutes walk which is by the cricket club. As the streets are all pavement and no grass. The property allows you both the luxuary of leaving the car or using it as a base to go further a field.

  • "Please note the poor feedback rating we are giving is for Sykes Cottages and in no way for the holiday accommodation and it is unfortunate that the feedback form Sykes cottages have sent asks for feedback on both."

. Firstly, The flat was lovely and John the owner was helpful, friendly and very welcoming (he welcomed us with a lovely selection of local produce when we arrived). Any questions or small issues we had during our stay (such as needing a light bulb changed or wanting to know how to use the heating) were quickly dealt with. We were very pleasantly surprised by how big the accommodation was and it contained everything you could need for your stay including a great selection of books, DVDs and games. The only negative was for Sykes Cottages misleading information on their website which said there were 3 bedrooms and it was only when we queried this, as part of the description didn't tie up so we had our doubts and they confirmed it was only 2 rooms which meant our 4th adult relative couldn't stay with us. After we had pointed out their mistake they refunded the booking fee but it still didn't cover the quarter of the cost that would have been paid by the other member of our party and the most annoying part is they still have not changed it on their website as it still says at time of writing 'Moving upstairs to the second floor is where you will find the other two bedrooms, both comfortable bedrooms,' Please be aware there is a 3rd bedroom but it is currently unusable as it needs some work doing but as long as people are aware they can just leave the door closed on it or just use it for storing your empty luggage and drying any clothes on the rack in there like we did (but there is a tumble dryer there as well). So to summarise, if you are looking for a lovely quiet place to stay, literally 4 minutes from North beach with all the facilities you could need and a helpful landlord look no further (but don't believe Sykes Cottages descriptions). Despite the issues we had with Sykes Cottages, we would happily recommend John and his lovely flat to friends and family.

Very clean and well equipped. Much bigger than we expected. Lovely quiet part of the town. Hosts were very welcoming and gave us a welcome pack on arrival. My only suggestion for improvement would be to upgrade the furniture in the lounge as it was outdated and uncomfortable. Nevertheless we had a great stay. Thank you.

  • "Swanage itself is an absolutely stunning with lot to see and do."

Hillveiw is well situated and had everything you could need but is very dated. The double bed was in fact two singles and not ideal for a couple. Wallpaper was hanging off in the third bedroom and when we had a bath, water came through the kitchen ceiling. The Belling cooker was from the ark and took forever to cook the most basic meals. We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and will revisit Swanage but for almost £1600 for 2 weeks would have expected more from the property. Was also advertised with a sea Veiw, had to squint at the small gap between the two properties across the street to see the slightest bit of what a think was the sea. Very poor for the price.

Updating and modernisation was urgently required. No instructions issued for use of appliances etc. The apartment was dark and quite depressing. Shower facilities badly needing updating. The ony thing in its favour was the proximity to the seafront which was perfect.

About the location

SWANAGE

Wareham 9.7 miles; Poole 20 miles.

The small, family-friendly seaside resort of Swanage is situated at the eastern end of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast, on the celebrated Isle of Purbeck and is probably best known for its wonderful, gently shelving golden sands. The little town offers visitors plenty of shops, good pubs and restaurants, some of which specialise in locally caught seafood, and is also well known for its annual jazz festival, which takes place each July. The attractive, Victorian wooden pier offers a great place for a stroll or try fishing, and often used a departure point for divers, it’s a wonderful place to watch the world pass by. The historic Swanage Railway has its terminus in the town and regular nostalgic steam engine trips take tourists for a picturesque 6-mile journey, chugging through lovely countryside to stop just beyond the romantic ruin of Corfe Castle. Nearby Durlston Country Park offers a lovely day out with spectacular coastal walks, dolphin spotting and wildlife watching, together with comfortable viewing points and a well-stocked cafe for a treat after all the fresh air. Take the short drive to Studland, which has one of the finest beaches in the country, surrounded by heathland, together with the regular chain ferry, which crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour to Sandbanks. This truly is a delightful holiday destination at any time of the year.
