  • "We had a lovely stay in the cottage, loved the location just a few things bit unhappy with, the front & back doors are very hard to lock but I found a way to lock them so was ok , the TV was unwatchable so didn't watch it all week, and the sofas had stains on and smelled of wet dog which was not very nice and lots of dog hair's left on them so had to keep brushing off of our clothes, and quite a bit of dog hair still on the carpet."

But we would use your company again but chose a pet free property, even though we do own a dog of our own. We love Weymouth so we will be back thank you for our lovely holiday sad to be back home .

Only downside was the front and back doors was very hard to lock. As a woman no way could I lock either door. The cottage was lovely and clean and very comfortable. Misty and Maggie had a fabulous time, we owners of the dogs did too.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

Great location. The property was practical, efficient and pleasant and worked really well for us and our dog. I loved the little labels! Not a fan of artificial flowers though, but that's a personal thing - unecessary landfill down the line! So all good. I just wanted to mention a potential safety issue with the lower half of the large 1st floor bedroom window. It opens easily, low and wide, thereby dangerous for dogs or children. One could lock it closed but then there's no ventilation. Thank you Julie

The location was perfect and the cottage beautiful. We loved the little quirky messages from the owner all around the cottage it was a really nice touch. Parking was easy and perfect if you have a dog as there is a beautiful walk up to The Nothe Fort all along the sea front. We couldn’t have asked for anything better.

  • "We were very apprehensive after reading some of the previous reviews."

But we were pleasantly surprised. The lounge and all upstairs had been newly decorated and new carpets and a note from owners that the decorating was not completed yet. The cottage was spotlessly clean. Nice little gestures from owners a bottle of wine, biscuits and dog treats. The only issue we had was the sofas were very uncomfortable but everything else was lovely. The key safe needs replacing as the numbers have faded and too low down. And check in time was after 5pm which is a shame as you end up loosing a whole day. Especially as check out is by 10am.

  • "I was worried about arriving at the cottage after reading some reviews about the house being dirty but I really didn’t need to at all."

It was clean and doesn’t have a dog smell to it at all ( you can never be sure when booking somewhere which takes pets) the location was perfect as well. The house was lovely and comfy and had everything you should need for a break away. My only downside is the check in time, 5pm is later then I would of expected. While not the end of the world, it did feel like we lost a day. I have recommended to my friends and family and would go back!

  • "Lovely comfortable clean cottage ."

The key box is low down making it difficult to use , the numbers are worn and not clear I had to kneel on the ground to see them . The only room that could be improved , the single bedroom a lovely large bright room , however there is plenty of room for a wardrobe - it doesn't have one. It had 3 draws , a few coat pegs on the wall and 2 plastic storage boxes under the mattress . There is no bedside table , there is a waste bin a bit lower than a bedside table but big enough I used it upside down beside the bed . There are only 2 old electric sockets in the room they are not in use . The radiator thermostat is stuck solid in the off position . We had to use the plunger to empty the water from the shower . I hope you find these comments useful . Apart from these issues we still had a wonderful holiday the car park ticket was a real bonus . Thank you .

  • "After many happy stays in Dream Cottage properties, our stay in Old Brewers Cottage was really disappointing."

We have come to expect and rely on the high standards that we have enjoyed on our recent holidays with our dog. The whole property was dirty and downstairs in particular, very smelly. The stairs and landing carpet is worn and smelly and the stench from the front room carpet, settees and cushions was disgusting. We tried putting our own blankets over the settees, so that we could sit there but even with this, we could not use the room due to the stench. Even after spraying air freshener, we were unable to use that room for the duration of our stay. The location of the property was great and clearly there has been effort made at some point to make it comfortable. What a shame that for a little more investment (new carpets, thorough cleaning of the kitchen and updating the shower, mold on walls etc) it would be a great place. The blinds in the front room were broken and bent as well as the back bedroom blind. The kitchen was dirty, washing up bowl appeared to be years old and worn. When taking a plate out of the cupboard, it was dirty and this generally reflected the whole kitchen. Food on and down the side of the cooker. Downstairs toilet seat dirty. On reading the reviews that other customers have left in the Guest book in the house, the carpet in the front room, in particular, has been mentioned several times, but nothing has been done - a real shame. Unfortunately, this has made us consider if the standard we have come to expect from Dream Cottages has been reduced as it was not reflected in the price we paid to stay in this property. It's a shame to have to write a negative review but it would be positive to see ours and other peoples comments (in the Guest book) being listened to and or the price actually reflecting the level of comfort available in this cottage. If Dream cottages are putting their name to this property, then surely there has to be a process whereby these issues are dealt with.

  • "Fantastic location but quite basic but practical but for the money we paid I think people will expect a higher specification."

Some small improvements like new blinds (they were broken in the main bedroom and lounge), a clean carpet in the lounge, a stain free quilt in the main bedroom. The mirror in the main bedroom on the dressing table isn’t balanced so doesn’t work as a mirror. As I say just little things that we think should have been sorted before the peak season began. We did not use the washing machine and In the guest book people had complained about that. We love the area but would not return to that particular cottage as for £1600 for a week it is overpriced. We would use Sykes again for this area in the Hope that this was just a one off that had been overlooked.

  • "A fantastic location & a great stay , however, sadly lacking in comfort, a previous review in the guest book back in 2019 suggested a new sofa was needed, it still absolutely is, the lounge reminded me of my daughter’s student house, very basic , carpet fraying in places and new sofa badly needed."

The garden furniture was rusty and a chair was broken and the file in the cottage asks guests to wash the grills if bbq is used, the bbq looks like it’s held together by rust and was lying on its side on the patio. Although the cottage was really clean, there were a number of hairs on the quilts white duvet cover , so that promptly went in the washer and out onto the washing line. I do have photos to back this up . I understand that covid staycations has pushed prices up but at almost £1200 for a week at the beginning of June was excessive for the actual house

Thank you for your valuable feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay. The owner is having new sofa’s arriving on the 26th June and will be providing new garden furniture for guests to use. The BBQ will also be removed, and carpets will be replaced at the end of the season. We look forward to welcoming you back to Dorset again soon. Property Owner

  • "Having stayed at the cottage in October for approximately £75 per night we thought we would return for a three night stay in April, by which time the price had risen to c."

£200 per night and £275 per night if we wanted to extend the stay by two more nights (to fill a bookings gap). Our choice of course to pay the £200 per night but disappointed to find no basics like salt, pepper, or anything like that that you really dont want to be having to do a shop for on your first day of your holiday. Also no wood for the fire (although when we phoned, the management company delivered some promptly). For that sort of rental we would expect a basic welcome pack, and certainly non-perishable things like salt and pepper. So while the cottage itself was lovely and well-situated, we felt it was let down by the lack of care as above which for that price should be standard. Dave and Sally Simon

Thankyou for your feedback. I am sorry there was no wood on your arrival, I am pleased we were able to provide it so promptly. Unfortunately due to the ongoing COVID situation we are unable to leave any welcome pack or non-perishable food in the property. We look forward to welcoming back to Weymouth soon. Property Owner

About the location

BREWERS QUAY HARBOUR

Dorchester 8.7 miles; West Lulworth 15.8 miles

Brewers Quay is the old Victorian brewery situated at the heart of the harbour, in Weymouth, Dorset. Much of the grade II listed complex and surrounding brewery buildings date from the late 1800 early 1900’s and many have stones inlaid commemorating their construction year. This area is now a popular destination with many restaurants, café and bars, creating a vibrant culture, where you can relax with a drink and watch the world go by. Tucked away down the harbourside streets, you will find original Tudor harbour buildings, estimated to have been built in 1600 and well worth a visit, with a very interesting history to share. You will also find the Weymouth Museum, with some incredible exhibitions, and the harbour is also home to the lifting bridge, where you can watch the luxury yachts head out to sea, and then walk over the bridge to the town's winding streets of boutique shops and the seafront esplanade and beach. There is more to this seaside town than meets the eye; Brewers Quay is a much-loved holiday destination in Weymouth!
