  • "A lovely property, well appointed and in a good location."

We had an issue with the central heating but one call to report it and someone was there within the hour to rectify the situation. First class service.

  • "It is a beautiful converted stable."

The kitchen is very good but so dark even with the under cupboard lighting. Very well stocked and excellent oven, hob, extractor. The cupboards above the worktop were impossible for me to use. I'm 5' 4" hubby was fine at 6' The beds are very low. We do have arthritic knees though. Otherwise the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The shower in the ensuite was impossible to use unless we squeezed past the door. No one could actually stand in front of the mirrored cabinet because the toilet was in the way. The wardrobe space was excellent, and there are hangers. The main bathroom was brilliant. Shower was powerful. I think a stick on soap dish would be very helpful as some of us still use a bar of soap. A toilet roll holder would be good too. The bath is huge and we wondered with the slow hot water output it actually took to fill. We also emptied the Henry vacuum it was stuffed and stank. We managed to find a replacement bag. The TV needs a subscription for Netflix and Prime TV. The Internet is excellent. We loved the whole layout of the place. Reversing out of the steep driveway into a very busy road was difficult at times. I think a mirror would really help there and reversing in is better. We loved our stay though. Dorset is certainly very beautiful. We even had a thatched roof. We found wonderful restaurants and enjoyed every moment.

  • "The Stables is a lovely thatched cottage, very attractively furnished."

Good kitchen, well-equipped, and very comfortable bed. The location is great - frequent buses into Weymouth and to Portland. Despite being on a busy main road, the cottage is very quiet thanks to its thick stone walls. We felt that the cottage would have been perfect if the small garden had been better maintained - it was unkempt. The shower control (on/off) is very stiff and impossible to operate with wet hands.

Thank you for your feedback and lovely comments about our cottage. We apologise for the garden at the time of your stay, we have since rectified this and do hope it will not put you off staying with us in the future. Best wishes, Mat and Laura. Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our week at The Stables."

It is a lovely place to spend a week away from home. It was extremely clean and everything was provided that we needed. Plenty of towels and lovely bedding. The outdoor space was really pleasant to sit in. The outdoor furniture was also handy. We made use of the table tennis too. Although close to a busy road we never heard it from inside as the walls are so thick!! The local pubs were handy for an evening meal. All in all a really good stay.

Thank you for your lovely comments, Wendy. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in our lovely cottage and hope to see you again in the future. Best wishes, Mat and Laura. Property Owner

Ideal position for getting to the beach at Overcombe and Bowleaze also only a few minutes drive into Weymouth. Several eating places and interesting places to visit, Sea life and Sand world very near by.

Thank you for you comments, Julie. We really appreciate your feedback and are glad you enjoyed exploring the local area from the cottage. We hope to see you again in the future. Best wishes, Laura and Mat. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was perfect."

Clean, warm and with everything you could wish for as it was advertised. Good location for the town. All the user manuals were available except for the dishwasher but we worked it out. Will book again. Thank you. Just an odd question. We fell in love with the dining room table and chairs, where were they bought. Would love to get the same for our house.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. We love the table and chairs too! The table is Ikea and chairs are from Woods Furniture in Dorchester. Best wishes, Laura and Mat Property Owner

  • "Staying: Family of Two Adults and one 5 year old."

The Stables is a good base to explore the main attractions in Dorset. On our stay we visited: Overcombe Beach - great that this beach is within walking distance from the cottage. I would recommend taking some seashoes to protect your feet from the pebbles. Weymouth - seaside town with shops and a beach, it was very busy and parking was impossible when we drove in so I'd recommend going by bus or hire some bikes. Sandworld was great for our daughter and we enjoyed it too. Lodmoor Country Park has a play area and small train if you are visiting with children. Sutton Poyntz - beautiful little village with a nice pub The Springhead overlooking a pond. Durdles Door - Absolutely stunning place, definitely get there before 10am to get a good spot. Abbotsbury Swannery & Subtropical Gardens, you can buy a dual ticket which includes entry to both. Our daughter enjoyed the willow maze. We loved the gardens, we even saw a Hummingbird Hawk Moth! Nice on site cafe at the gardens too. West Bay- the reason why I've been wanting to visit Dorset since watching Broadchurch. It was a really nice beach with the huge cliffs in the background and harbour. Rise Cafe on the river was really nice. Swanage - Lovely seaside town, we watched the Punch and Judy show on the beach which we all loved. The Cottage: We loved the decor in the cottage, it feels modern but still in keeping with the cottage. Big TV with Netflix and Disney+ if you have subscriptions. Separate dining area is lovely and bright. The kitchen in the cottage has everything you need to cook at home if you wanted. Good knives and glasses! We liked that children's cutlery, cups and bowls were . Like the other reviews, If a sliding door could be put on the ensuite like you have in the games room that would be ideal as you can't really use the toilet. The main switch in the kitchen didn't seem to work but we could switch on the undercupboard lights. The games room was an added bonus and our daughter loved playing with the kitchen. Maybe a refresh on the toys as some of the pieces were missing. We really loved the courtyard garden, but a lot of the plants in the garden seemed to be dying, probably due to the hot weather? These little niggles didn't effect our stay and we would recommend this cottage for anyone looking to explore Dorset. We loved Dorset, wish we'd have booked 2 weeks to see more! Thank you!

The cottage was very cold at night as the heating appeared to be on a timer so the radiators turned off at night. Otherwise, the cottage was a delight especially the games room (which we didn't actually use).

  • "Property is well positioned for easy access to beach or travel to other areas."

Property is quiet despite being near to a busy road. Accommodation is in lovely condition, with all aspects appearing to be new. Bathrooms and kitchen are excellent condition. The whole place is beautifully appointed and comfortable. My 10 year really enjoyed the games room, insisting on playing table tennis every day. Honestly, could really fault the property. Have a suggestion to the owners, fit a sliding door to the ensuite bathroom for additional privacy - we didn't use this bathroom as it felt strange having no door on the facility.
