  • "Lovely house, beautiful setting."

Could do with some TLC, mould in en suite. Couldnt use en suite shower as neighbour knocked and said when we used, we were flooding him, so 6 of us using one shower, but we managed., did report, Shame though. Very well equipped. Grandaughters loved stream, and feeding ducks and welcome pack lovely gesture. Also handy having pub opposite which we made use of. Would return despite small issues.

Hi Pamela, Thank you so much for your lovely review, I am so pleased you enjoyed the cottage & your granddaughter enjoyed the Duck pond :) I am so sorry you experienced issues with the en-suite shower, as soon as we were made aware of the issue we rectified the problem. Shower fixed and newly painted bathroom. We look forward to seeing you again :) kind regards Karen Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location."

Welcome gifts were a lovely surprise and books and board games are also supplied, useful if you have a couple of wet days like us. If not wet there are nice outside areas to sit in both front and back of the property. Do be careful using the stepping stones to cross the stream, especially on the way back from the Springhead pub. Not all our party were! :-)

It would have helped if the Sykes Cottages description had mentioned that there is a microwave in the kitchen and that there are built in stair gates which were important for us as we had a small child in our party, it would have saved us bringing our own. Also the key safe was difficult to use.

  • "Duck cottage is a delightful property."

The stream outside the front door is beautiful and a treat for the children (so shallow it’s safe to play in). The village is idyllic and the locals friendly and welcoming. Ideally positioned for exploring Dorset, close to amenities yet quiet and rural. Homely touches in the cottage add to its charm. The addition of a parasol for the garden would be useful, but it’s otherwise well equipped.

In our opinion the property would benefit from some regular TLC & a deep clean. Other wise this beautiful cottage will loose its appeal. The owner reacted to our requests quickly but other areas are needing attention. ie Double bedroom door is catching on the carpet making opening the door difficult. Three window catches were nearly falling off & hanging by their screws. The blind in the ensuite (rear window) required repair. The fittings in the family shower were rusty. The owner was made aware of the chipped crockery & wooden garden bench & a clothes airer was kindly replaced.

  • "A really cute cottage in a beautiful location."

The village is stunning and the pub on the other side of the duck pond was welcoming, had an impressive range of gin and a lovely menu. The cottage was lovely and the welcome basket was a nice touch. It was freezing when we arrived, and it took us some time to get the heating working (the boiler had been turned off!), and we were a little disappointed with the cleanliness (dirty shower screens and tiles, lots of cobwebs, needing to wash up oven trays and glasses before using them) and quite upset by finding a tablet (looked like prescription medicine) on the floor in the lounge, which could have been a big issue for a family with young children or a dog. A few more mugs and glasses would have been nice too, to save on the continual washing up. Beware also, the stairs are quite steep if you have someone who is less mobile (and there is no downstairs loo). That said it was a lovely cottage, well positioned and we loved watching the ducks out the window.

Duck cottage is home from home with everything you need and more, very comfortable, we loved the cosy log burner that we lit for a couple of hours each evening and as such we didn’t need to use the central heating even though the September evenings are beginning to chill off. A kind gesture from the owner of a bottle of white wine along with a welcoming drop of Port and Baileys Liqueur were well received. Hoover very little suction. Bin men came refused to take bin, already had bags inside from previous holiday makers. - began to smell Overall view if duck cottage For the price paid of £1680 expections of this idylic cottage was not up to our expectations. Not ideal for elderly that have issues or signs to accommodate those with walking aids or wheelchair use . It was a challenge with the steps and stairs. The cleanliness of the cottage should have been of a high standard. In vacating the property at 10am , alittle to much with what we all had to do, Strip beds, clean around, tidying up, hoovering, sweeping back and front, Getting ourselves sorted, breakfast. First impressions were very good and overall it is a lovely cottage to stay in. However, there were a couple of cleanliness issues in the kitchen. There was grime on worktops and grease on teapot and canisters, The cooker hood needed cleaning. The kitchen bin hadn't been emptied. The utility room area was also not very clean. It didn't appear that it had been cleaned up to "Covid" standards. The garden was spoiled a little by the grass not having been cut. It is such a shame about these things, and would have easily scored 5 stars otherwise. That said it didn't spoil our holiday.

The cottage was not deep cleaned as it was suppose to be prior to our arrival and having been informed that 2 of the party had developed COVID symptoms whilst on holiday we would have thought that a more professional attitude would have been taken rather than a broken promise to call us within ten minutes to advise what the owner would like us to do and whether they would refund any of the cost as we had to leave due to Covid! Not happy at all and will not leave good feedback on other sites especially given why we had to leave and the lack of care and support we received,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am so sorry to hear that you felt the property had not been deep cleaned before your arrival. All the welcoming treats were lovely, warm croissants and danishes as soon as we got there. The basket of coffee pods and tbags, nutritional bars, milk and sugar. The best was the bottle of wine (waddling duck) to match the theme of the cottage and the Port and Baileys which we all enjoyed. It was lovely to watch the ducks, birds, dogs and children paddle in the stream right outside our cottage (including a few adults). The Cider, Dog and Sausage Festival was lovely on the sunday over "The Springhead", which was great, live music and lovely food and drink, and dog friendly. The rooms in the cottage were clean and comfortable, the mini toiletries were also a great touch. Plenty of utensils in the kitchen and hairdryers in Double rooms and showers were great. Plenty of storage in kitchen and bedrroms. We also enjoyed chilling in the garden and having a couple of bbqs. The footpaths and fields were great to take the dog for walks every day and Prston is only a mile up the road to walk to 2 chip shops, papershop/co-op and 2 other pubs. The Bridge pub did great food too. The only thing that would have made it better is if there was a downstairs toilet, there was a locked room outside to the left of the back door, maybe that could be turned into a toilet as one of our group was disabled. Thank you for the hire of a lovely welcoming cottage, will definitely be returning with friends next year
