  • "A lovely comfortable cottage."

We slightly misunderstood the listing info - this cottage has an ELECTRIC woodburner - don't take logs like we did!! Ha Ha! A couple of tips: to get the electric ovens to work you need to set the clock time. When using the key safe you do need to walk round in what looks like the neighbours' drive. This cottage does have oven gloves. Bedding fantastic, both bathrooms lovely. We had a great time.

  • "Great location for exploring the coast and in land Dorset."

Plenty of space in the living areas, with most things you would want in a cottage - would have liked a dishwasher. Though comfortable, there is a slight musty smell to much of the soft furnishings. There were no outside chairs and the curtains in the smallest bedroom were insufficient. The secondary double glazing did well to cut out most road noise.

  • "We had a lovely stay in this spacious comfortable cottage."

The road is very busy, but if your out all day it doesn’t matter and it gets fairly quiet at night when you want to sleep. We loved eating in the bright dining room/conservatory. We had to wait to park sometimes, but always managed to so. It is a good location for walking over the hill to the beach, other walks and getting to Weymouth. The only thing I would mention is that as a family who cook at home because our child has a major allergy, the kitchen utensils, cutlery and pans were not that clean. We cleaned what we used and kept them separate for the time we were there. Perhaps a dishwasher would help.

  • "A lovely cottage with all the facilities you would need."

Very clean, spacious and warm. We stayed as a family of 4, 2 kids and 2 adults. If the weather had been better, the would have been some great coastal walks from the doorstep. Weymouth is only a short drive away with plenty of attractions.

  • "The customer service aspect from Sykes really soured the experience for us."

Over the course of a three night stay I received 8 emails and a text message from Sykes, a mixture of advertising, offers and instructions. It’s too much. Whilst we understand everyone is navigating trying to continue to run services as normally as possible in very different times, the multiple communications with instructions on how to leave the property felt unnecessarily over the top, at yikes patronising and not very conducive to a relaxed break. Furthermore the lack of provision of simple basics which facilitate a much more pleasant stay and which I would have expect to have included (basic cooking supplies such as oil, salt and pepper as well as Clear supply of extra toilet roll and shower gel) was a great disappointment. We are regular users of self catering accommodation and have come to expect a more well-served and relaxed approach. I don’t know if this was simply a one off negative experience but I’d think twice before booking a Sykes cottage again.

  • "Holiday cottage was lovely, very spacious and booking process was great with Sykes and helpful to have the emails with updates/ reminders."

Will definitely be booking with you again. Although the cottage was lovely there is obviously a damp and leak issue with the property going down into the utility area and this leaked whilst we were there when it rained heavy. I think this needs to be addressed as I should imagine through the winter the rain would be most days and this would cause a lot of inconvenience to who is staying there to put buckets out. The leak is obviously long standing due to the state of the walls and plaster and probably should be addressed before more guests stay. Apart from that the cottage is lovely and quaint but this does spoil it.
