  • "A beautiful."

spacious , warm and comfortable large cottage to stay in. Our family of 8 adults and 2 dogs found it wonderful. Plenty of room for everyone and enough space to chill out. The log fire was especially lovely on cold wet evenings. A very well equipped cottage and the location was excellent for exploring all areas of Somerset. We met the owners who were friendly and helpful. Would recommend spending time here to anyone.

The pub in the village was good for our first evening meal ,The accommodation was ideal as we needed four bedrooms although with two of us being disabled we coped with the steps in the cottage , would recommend the property to anyone visiting the area .

  • "Everything just fine."

Accommodation exactly as expected, very spacious and with everything we needed available. I did find the ensuite shower room a bit tight so should loose a bit of weight!!! Beds very comfortable in fact everything very comfortable. TV in main room a bit small but didn't watch much TV anyway as out and about in the glorious Mendips. Ideal for our dog with a porch type area to clean the dog and ourselves after some rainy weather. Met the owner who was very helpful who sorted out a couple minor problems the same day. Had a fab stay AND will book up next year. Ken

  • "Exceptionally stunning cottage located in a beautiful village."

Bigger than we expected and the views were beautiful. The outside area was perfect for our 4 year old and secure for our small dog so we were comfortable letting him roam the garden area. Kitchen was really well stocked with equipment and white goods - even had a separate small drinks fridge. The bathrooms were beautifully spacious and bright. Plenty of parking too and we didn't feel overlooked or crowded by the surrounding farm or cottages. We were able to see the cows every morning and evening which was brilliant - especially for our son. This has been the cleanest holiday cottage we have ever rented as well, being dog friendly we were even more impressed. Helen was incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay - she even provided us with candles and torches during an unexpected power cut and kept us up to date with estimated times and that the entire village was affected. We were left to our own devices but could knock the door for any issues we had and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend taking a torch if your planning a late evening jaunt to the pub as the village has no streetlights but it definitely added to the ambience on the walk home - We used phone torches and were absolutely fine. The local pub The Victoria Inn is a must visit as the food is delicious, a quint essential country pub in its decoration with small dining huts outside (a few even have chandeliers) and play area is great for kids. The staff are friendly and dogs are welcomed too. They were able to cater to various allergies which was really appreciated. The cottage is surrounded by 100s of walks and easy access to Wells (where Hot Fuzz was filmed), Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge and Street. Thank you Helen, we had an incredible week and would return again in a heartbeat.

The cottage was just perfect and loved it that we all had our own bathrooms and plenty of space to chill out after a busy day. A big thank you to Helen for taking the time to show us around her dairy farm and showing my grand daughter all the baby calves being fed. Mabel said that was the best bit of the holiday

  • "Booked for a family get together."

Although not a disabled cottage, we booked for the downstairs bedroom and bathroom for ourselves, only to find there were a small staircase up to the downstairs facilities. Since I booked the cottage last year my brother became disabled and Helen was very helpful and supplied a single bed in the lounge, problem was the downstairs toilet was down 2 long unmarked steps past the kitchen with no handrail, so was forced with difficulty upstairs at night, this also meant my brother could not access the kitchen. I think these details should be made obvious, as with saying there was a downstairs bedroom and bathroom suggests good for anyone with limited mobility, defiantly a handrail down to kitchen and toilet needed. Also some minor things lacking such as bin liners and dishwasher tablets ( there were only 2!) No way to mop the shower after use, without having to request a mop, and there was no way to fit the Stairgate that was identified in the cottage details, which would have been useful as the first bedroom was right next to the top of stairs. Helen was very helpful in trying to accommodate our requests, the cottage was nice and clean but Sykes should be more accurate with the details, it's the details that they leave out that are sometimes very important. Only suitable for the able bodied, having downstairs facilities implies otherwise. June Wale from Devon, london and Birmingham

Thank you for your comments, but we would like to point out, as June said, this is not a 'disabled cottage', and the steps to the ground floor bedroom and bathroom are documented. With the ground floor bedroom and bathroom occupied, we had a third person, with a greater degree of immobility, requiring these facilities. We tried to accommodate this, but the amount of access needed for the Gentleman is not, and not advertised to be, of the nursing home standard he is used to and needed. General housekeeping information in regard to the mops and stairgates is in the email attachment sent to the booking visitor email address. Thank you for your comments about the cleanliness of the cottage and how I tried to help accommodate the above issues. Helen Property Owner

Would suggest that more provisions are left for example we only had 2 dishwasher tablets and a small amount of washing up liquid. Would be nice for a welcome hamper of some description- just in comparison with other places we have stayed. Also toilet rolls were in short supply! We know it’s self catering but as we say just comparing. Generally very comfortable, quiet, well located and well equipped.

  • "Despite the weather not being on our side, we enjoyed a superb week at Dale Barton, exploring the local area as part of a family get together."

The accommodation is very comfortable, exactly as described and exceeded expectations. The previously mentioned lack of fridge space is no more as a fridge and separate freezer are located below the breakfast bar in addition to the existing smaller fridge located on top of the dishwasher. Luckily, we visited the right places on the right days in order to tie in with the weather forecast; Wells, Bath, Street, Glastonbury, Fleet Air Arm Museum (Yeovilton) and the Yeo Valley organic gardens in addition to their HW canteen for breakfast on the last day - all very memorable. The tour of Wells Cathedral is a must as well as one of the free tours of Bath. Glastonbury was a real eye opener, very alternative and quite bizarre. The views from the Tor were magnificent and well worth the effort. All in all, an excellent property which I'm sure we'll look to stay at again. Thank you.

We found fridge storage a little limited but we were there for Christmas I'm sure it would be fine at other times of the year. The kitchen sink is a little small for washing things like the grill pan and the area around the sink a bit cramped for team washing up but these are minor gripes. The owner was very pleasant and helpful and we would certainly consider staying again.

Beds are super comfy and loads of space to spread out. You have to recognise this is a working farm so you may get woken by machinery etc if you like to sleep in a bit on holiday. Would have been good to know there was a parasol in the cupboard (we only found it on the last day) as stayed during a heatwave. Cottage stayed lovely and cool all week though due to the very thick walls! Well equipped kitchen with everything you might need. Would be lovely in the winter with the huge woodburner. Will definitely return of coming back to the area.

The home was warm, clean, comfortable & more spacious than the pictures show - we were a party of 7 adults & we did not feel at all packed in or on top of one another. All of the bedrooms are a good size, with comfy beds; and the bathrooms were clean & modern - the downstairs shower room is enormous!
