  • "The house annex was tastily decorated and very comfortable inside."

The kitchen was well stocked but I would take my own sharp knife next time. The small outside was not well maintained with worn out paint and cramped facilities. The table was just big enough for two persons to tightly fit plates and drink. The dog beach was about 20 minutes walk away whereas the people beach was only 7 minutes walk. The people beach opens to dogs at the start of October. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again .

  • "What a lovely base from which to make the most of Weymouth and the beautiful Jurassic coast."

Everything felt easy - arriving and being able to park the car on the driveway and then have a cuppa and a biscuit (thank you Sharon!) was such a relief after a long journey, and the facilities were perfect for what we needed (mum, grandparent and two young kids). The lodge was immaculately clean and homely. My mum and I especially enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard (which gets the sun in the afternoon) with a cold glass of vino. The location of Sharon’s lodge is perfect for Weymouth beach and the cafes/bars on the Esplanade - they’re literally a 5 minute walk away. The beds are comfy and the surrounding residential area is quiet. Sharon was a very responsive host and we would definitely recommend her lovely lodge to other holidaymakers. Thank you Sharon!

  • "Cockleshell Lodge is quiet and well located; close to the Esplanade and just a short walk from the shops."

There is adequate off street parking for two cars. Unfortunately on arrival it was bitterly cold, the heating was just coming on and we struggled to get warm that evening. We had access to the controls but it took ages to heat up, this was perhaps due to damp; there were visible signs in both the reception room and the main bedroom plus a long term leak behind the toilet. Also there were at least 3 lights/lamps not working and a couple of sockets. Unfortunately the previous tenants had not washed up properly and the mugs left on the welcome tray were dirty. TLC needed

Dear Elizabeth, Thanks for your feedback I have looked into the issues you have raised. 1. I only ever leave the heating on timed as I'm never sure what time guests will arrive. So, I can only apologise that the house felt cold when you arrived. There is a fully working freestanding Electric heater in the lounge which can be moved and positioned anywhere in the room near a socket. This would have helped to warm the lounge quicker for you had you used it and left the internal doors open. 2. The damp patch you describe in the main reception room is from the downpipe outside by the French doors in the back courtyard. Unbeknown to me it had got blocked. The results of this only showing up internally this winter and unfortunately it created a very small damp issue in the plasterwork, at floor level, hidden behind the curtains, by the French doors. Unfortunately, I cannot just put a sticky plaster over it, the wall needs to be totally dry before treating and re-painting. If you have pictures of the damp in the bedroom I would like to have them so I can investigate further what you are referring to!? 3. The toilet does not leak at all, so maybe there had been an accident of some kind! 4. Only 'one' light bulb was totally not working. I have checked them all myself and it is the wall light in the lounge (above grey sofa) which has an ongoing issue as the bulb does not last long in there. My electrician is fully aware. The bedside lamp in the main bedroom by the window has a small screw-in bulb and when I checked it had come slightly loose, probably during dusting, once the bulb was turned, it came on!!! All the other lamps are definitely working... 5. The only socket that does not work is in the hallway and there is a large plant stood in front of it for that reason. My electrician believes its disconnected, it has never worked since I bought the house. I'm unsure which other socket you are referring to!? 6. I can only apologise for the mugs, they are always cleaned in hot soapy water with a sterilising tablet along with the teapot and teaspoons, then re-washed in hot, clean soapy water this is done between every booking. Please note Elizabeth, it clearly states on Cockleshells front exit door and kitchen window sill to turn the heating off when you leave the property which you failed to do on your departure day. Also, the roman blind has been broken in the back bedroom by whomever used the room, they just discarded the cord on the floor. I would have appreciated being made aware of any of these issues during your stay as they could easily have been remedied or explained. My phone number was readily available in the Welcome Pack so you could contact me. Property Owner

The lodge was spotlessly clean with everything you could need for a great relaxing holiday. • "Cockleshell Lodge was a nice place, tucked to the side of a larger property on a residential street, about 5-10 minute walk from the Old Pier Bandstand building on the seafront."

We were a party of two friends and a Yorkshire Terrier. Beds were extremely comfortable, with very cosy linens, and the kitchen was well-equipped with most everything you could need for cooking any meals, and with a large fridge-freezer. We found it to be a very quiet location - my friend especially is very aware of any noise at night, and she had a lovely undisturbed sleep every night in the back bedroom, as it was so quiet. The parking was ideal - we didn't use the car once we arrived! - and out of the way of the residents of the main building. For preference we would have liked a really large frying pan for doing cooked breakfasts, and also a few more available channels on the TV/SKY. Wi-fi was excellent. The owner responded very promptly when we had a question on arrival, which was appreciated. Two small things to be aware of, 1) the rug in the living room moves/shifts very easily on the wooden floor, and 2) the shower drains quite slowly (flushing the toilet seems to resolve this). I understand the property won't accept dogs in future, which will prevent me from visiting again, but that is the only reason I wouldn't as it was cute, cosy, quiet, and well-equipped.

  • "When we arrived the next door neighbour had ladies pants drying in the window (nothing to do with the cottage I know) but strange."

.... On first arrival it seemed lovely apart from a problem with the shower which in fairness was fixed pretty quickly, it is however a TINY shower and bathroom. It's only when you've stayed at a place for a few days that you start to notice things. Outside under the front window were several old window casings. A black bag was left there too, when I looked inside the bag it had rubbish in it including bags of dog poo. I had to dispose in the several bins at the side of the property. We had to sleep apart as the double bed was too short for my 6'1" husband because of the footboard. He had to sleep diagonally so we thought we'd try the two single beds in the other bedroom. One of the mattresses was fine but the other was terrible, springs could be felt even just sitting on the bed. Luckily we took cotton sheets and covers with us, the duvet covers were polyester and not breathable so it was a good job we did. The rugs in the lounge and the bedroom needed a really good clean as they were stained. The furniture was not comfortable and the dining chairs extremely basic. The kitchen worktops under the rim were sticky and needed cleaning. The garden bench had been painted but was so old and flimsy it would only be suitable for children to sit on. To sum up, the cottage was not in a nice location, it needs some tlc, but there was every pot, pan and small items that you could think of. Pretty decor but not up to scratch for the cost.

I would recommend this property to anyone and would definitely book again.

  • "We have just returned from a very relaxing week at Cockleshell Lodge in Weymouth."

The Cockleshell Lodge is set in a quite location just off the sea front, but close enough to walk there in five minutes. We arrived in Weymouth by National Express who drop you off by the King Head Statue, which is the other end of the seafront, but it only took less then 30 minutes to walk to Cockleshell Lodge. The train station is even closer about 10 minutes away. When we arrived and opened the front door, we thought there had been a mix up. Cockleshell Lodge is like no other, it’s like walking into someone’s home, you expect to find someone sitting watching the television. I mean this in a very positive way. It is spotless throughout and has a vey friendly/home feel about it. As I say every room has been cleaned to a very high standard. There was a great welcome basket waiting for us, with bread (very tasty) eggs etc. There is a great information booklet regarding the property and everything local, including telephone numbers. There really is nothing negative to say about Cockleshell Lodge. We would easily return there and highly recommend it.

I was tempted to return home on Wednesday but persevered till Thursday. The bottom of the shower door was gruby, the toilet roll holder was broken, there was a chip in the toilet seat and was stained, there was hair in the sink plug hole. The cooker hob needed a clean as did the washing machine controls and the kitchen draining board. The welcome pack was a lovely idea, shame mayo, tom sauce and coffee sachets were all out of date. As for Weymouth itself lovely place to visit.
