  • "We had a really great weekend away staying in the cottage , highly recommended."

The property clean tidy comfortable. However i would suggest a BBQ in this place we couldn’t find it , and better sound system for modern devices. Thank you

  • "Great cottage, perfect for a large family gathering."

We have older less able family members who really appreciated the level access and easy entry downstairs bedroom and bathroom. Kitchen was well equipped and fully catered for us all in terms of crockery, cutlery and equipment. Beautiful rural location. Would definitely recommend.

  • "Chestnut Cottage was perfect for our weekend away for my daughter's birthday."

The cottage was lovely and warm and beautifully decorated for Christmas. We had plenty of room and everything we needed, the kitchen was very well equipped. The beds very comfortable and we enjoyed the log burner in the lounge particularly as the weather was so cold. A great place to stay and we hope to come back before not too long.

  • "The property was very comfortable and beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations."

It was one of the best places we have stayed as a group of seven adults, it was spacious and had a really well stocked kitchen. Perfect for self catering. There are no amenities near so you have to be prepared to stock up at the shops and travel to the nearest pubs, only a ten minute drive. It’s not far from the coast and was well situated for exploring the lovely villages and Jurassic coast. The owner was extremely helpful.

  • "We had a lovely time at Chestnut Cottage."

It is perfect for larger family groups and the area is great for some really nice walks. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and it was overall a great, cosy cottage perfect for a wintery weekend.

  • "A very lovely place for a family autumn break, warm and cosy."

The central heating failed for a couple of days but the woodburner was marvellous and the lady owner quick to act. She was also very generous when she discovered we had a 70th birthday in the group. Recommended.

  • "The cottage was perfect for our group of 8 consisting of 5 adults, one with wheelchair, 3 children and 2 small dogs."

It was well appointed in all respects, and we didn't need for anything. Beds were extremely comfortable, and showers always produced plenty of hot water. The facilities for our wheelchair member on the ground floor were excellent. Yes, there were a few flies on arrival but nothing to be concerned about as the large zappers did their job. Also, the kitchen chairs did grate whilst being moved but after a visit to Weymouth we discovered a Poundland and hey presto a few felt pads and no noise! It is as it says a farm cottage, so farm traffic is to be expected but other than an infrequent pass the cottage was extremely quiet. The children enjoyed seeing the calves in the barn and trying to identify the different vehicles that passed. Being able to all sit around the table of an evening really added to our stay as we chose to eat in most evenings. The choice of local information literature is exceptional and exhaustive, and the games and toys amused the younger members of our group. The owner called on us to check that everything was to our liking and was friendly, helpful, and pleasant. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

  • "Lovely property, great location."

Alot of the other reviews talked about alot of flys however we didnt find that to be a massive issue, the sticky papers that are hung seems to get any that did come into the house. It would have been good to have some suggested walks in the guides provided as wasn't really sure where we could and couldn't walk and the kitchen chairs need some felt feet pads as they are very noisy when moved

Well equipped would have appreciated more than one loo roll per toilet and enough dish washer tablets for the week but small issue. Well situated, we loved seeing the cows and yes there are lots of flies but it’s in farming country. It’s within walking distance of a lovely pub would definitely return.

Very comfortable, spacious and immaculately clean. Kitchen full with everything you would need. Disabled bathroom and ground floor bedroom was essential for us and did not disappoint. Garden furniture was available but no cushions for comfort was our only gripe. Would recommend Chestnut Cottage for location to beaches and beautiful countryside trips.

  • "We found the the bedrooms comfortable, bathrooms clean and we especially appreciated the wet room downstairs."

The lounge was spacious and comfortable. Our experience of the kitchen was, unfortunately, not pleasant due to our constant, unsuccessful, battles with the flies. They were very hard to get rid of even with the owner's provision of various traps and a spray. When we arrived we saw a number of dead flies stuck on the walls. There was no fly swatter which might have helped. Perhaps a door and window screen might also help. It made us reluctant to open windows, even upstairs, as the bedrooms were sometimes inundated with flies too. There were several good aspects to the cottage: the garden and outdoor games were appreciated and the actual surrounding area is beautiful with many places close by to visit. If the fly problem could be sorted, I would recommend a visit there.

  • "Flies, flies and yet more flies."

I feel there was not enough information regarding the cottage being opposite a cow shed, I know it said on a working farm. During our weeks stay the house and gardens were inundated with flies with no respite. It is difficult to describe how bad it was you had to experience it to understand. I don't think enough was done to alleviate this problem. One can of fly spray, some fly paper and a fly zapper in the kitchen is not enough, screens on doors would help. We had to buy more spray and was constantly swatting them. We went through 3 spray bottles of disinfectant. I left my car window open for a few minutes to find at least 50 flies in the car. My rating would be much higher as we did like the place but I won't be returning due to the discomfort we suffered.

  • "Chestnut cottage was a perfect home from home, very comfortable, spacious and well equipped."

We were a 3 generation family party and everyone loved the cottage. It was great to have the large garden for the children to run about, and also the small sheltered courtyard for meals. There are games provided for both adults and children and also some toys. It was lovely to meet the owners who were very friendly and helpful. We were there during a hot week so the upstairs in particular stayed very warm, the downstairs bedroom was cooler. In Rodden there are lots of bats and we had at least two in the cottage. The first we removed like you would a spider, except with a bucket and magazine! The 2nd we just ignored, assuming it would fly out again. They are only little. It just meant that in the hot weather, noone wanted their bedroom windows completely wide open!

  • "A delightful cottage, very well equipped with lots of lovely touches."

Very comfortable and quiet, super walks from the cottage, the garden a real bonus, only slight niggle, en-suite upstairs bathroom - the hot water temperature control of mixer tap and shower, far too stiff to turn without extreme force, even after your agent had adjusted it. Also the button to send water to shower very difficult to pull up. Otherwise an absolutely perfect stay, would definitely go again.

  • "Upstairs bathrooms have water problems, can’t adjust water temperature in en suite and shower head needs adjusting in other bathroom There are no instructions on the cooker and oven door needs attention as it doesn’t always close."

Please put felt pads on the feet of the kitchen chairs! It is very disappointing to get one small cloth, one tea towel and only 2 dishwasher tablets for 9 people. There was no washing up liquid. Toilet rolls also needed. This all seems very mean when the price is so high. Shower chair should be stored in the disabled shower not in upstairs cupboard. Super house, just a little attention to detail would make it perfect

The facilities for my father who has restricted mobility were by far the best he has experienced. • "Pros: This is a lovely property with quality furnishings and plenty of space in a beautiful position with lots of places to visit."

Cons: And this is a big one. FLIES. We were inundated with them. There were 2 large ultraviolet fly traps already in place but we could not leave any food uncovered or indeed sitting down to eat was a very, very difficult. So much so that it completely spoilt the holiday. We met the owner who brought along several sticky fly traps that immediately caught dozens of flies. There was no mention of this problem in information supplied.

So peaceful. Very well equipped with wetroom on the ground floor. The only challenge for me using a mobility scooter was the gravel on the drive but my husband managed to reverse the car so I got out on the slabs. Met the owners who said that they were thinking of extending the patio slabs to make it easier accessing the back garden. Would love to go back.
