  • "The bath I feel needed an anti-slip mat and possibly a grab-rail as quite slippy with soap."

The shower was nice and hot.

  • "On the upside we could not fault the location being very close to harbour, beach, shops and restaurants."

The bedrooms were fine for size, the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was fine with a very good shower and lots of hot water. The kitchen was generally OK except for poor quality utensils and not enough cutlery unless you washed up after every use. When we arrived we needed a cup of tea but the kettle didn't work. We phoned the local office and they were very quick in arranging delivery of a new one (impressive). On the downside we were very disappointed with the level of cleanliness. The back courtyard was disgustingly dirty. In the bedrooms there was dirt under the beds including sweet wrappers. There were also wrappers in the bedside cabinet of the back double bedroom. The ceiling fan in the front double was frankly a danger to health with the whole fitment hanging off the ceiling held by a few rawplugs hanging halfway out of the plaster. In the dining area I found to my discomfort that the top shelf was supported by three lugs rather than the four required. When I went to place an item on the shelf the whole lot tipped down dropping the entire contents on my foot. I still have badly bruised and dis-coloured toes on my right foot. As a precaution I removed the shelf and left it next to the sideboard unit. There was no broom provided which made tidying up difficult with either a dustpan and brush or hoover. The hoover provided stank when used. Probably needed a new filter. It didn't work very well either -pushed dirt along rather than sucking it up. There was no opportunity to recycle. Everything had to be put in the same bins. Finally the toe board under the kitchen units was always falling off this due to the fact that the normal plastic clips were all broken. To summarise I would say that the cleaning of the property was well below par and that general maintenance was lacking. This was well below the standards we have come to expect from Sykes Cottages which we have always (until now) found extremely satisfactory. We note that the house was under the Dream Cottage management so maybe this could explain the different standards. In spite of all the criticism my family enjoyed their holiday but this was mainly due to the pleasures available in Weymouth.

  • "As this year is very busy it was almost impossible to find a parking space."

I drove round and round trying to park. Eventually I found what I thought was a legal parking space only to find it wasn't. I got a parking ticket which someone decided to remove and so I came back to find that I had 2 tickets. I later found out from a traffic warden that for this year permit holders were allowed to park in the Pavilion Car Park for free. This marred the whole holiday. I should have been made aware of this by Sykes Cottages. I will put it down to a bad experience, but please will you warn others so that they don't befall the same fate.

  • "A lovely home with attractive furniture and contents-Had everything we possibly could need."

Right down to sewing threads in drawer. Beds really comfortable. Spacious bedrooms. In an ideal location for the visitor. Beach/ shops right on the doorstep. There is an easy car park around from the front door if you can't find a car park space with the supplied parking permit. Amble bus stops within 5 mins walk. Rail Stn nearby. Couple of disappointments which are not anything to do with the property itself- nor which owners could be responsible for. 1. few home pigeons lodging outside back roof of a neighbouring property and 2 traffic flow was sometimes noisy during business hrs but none of this affected us on our 7 night stay 22-29th May. Really great value. I'd stay again.

The only drawback being only one set of keys which made thing a tad difficult at times with the key safe at the door being difficult to open. Would book again no problem

  • "I booked Globe cottage as it looked just what me and my family wanted and it was ."

The cottage had everything at hand that was expected for a family and the location was fab . The cottage had everything that was needed big lounge/kitchen/dinner lovely bathroom . We were Close to the harbour, town , beach which were all a few mins walks way . Couldn’t ask for more . But .... the downside . As previous reviews stated beds uncomfortable they need new mattresses , couple of my family struggled sleeping on them and had to improvise. The house backs onto neighbours who have pigeons and lots of them which make a noise all day and night so can’t have the window open because of them cooing constantly, with windows closed you still hear them . Put some washing out onto the little area at back which is covered in pigeon mess And had to bring Washing Back in . I slept in master bedroom and hardly ever got any sleep . Working Men’s club next door and on the corner another club with revellers smoking outside drunk arguing , shouting and women fighting one night at 2am .on other corner flats being converted so workmen start work at 7am banging etc ... lots of traffic passes through street as it’s the nearest after coming off bridge to get onto Sea front So noisy all day . Like I said no faults with cottage it was great but We were all glad to get home for some sleep . Zzzzzzz

  • "We had read a review of the property beforehand that said the mattresses weren't very good and there were issues with cleanliness."

We asked about this before our stay and were told that it had all been checked, the matresses were fine and the place was clean. I wouldn't say the place was dirty but whoever cleaned it before our stay didn't try very hard. There were crumbs under the tables and the plates, mugs, glasses and cutlery taken from the cupboards were actually dirty in some cases and had to be washed before use. The main double matress in the master bedroom and one of the single matresses upstair were actually in quite a bad state, you could feel the springs and the double matress did not make for a good sleep. Additionally, the bed in the master bedroom was extremely creaky, to that extent we woke in the night a few times because of the noise (and we aren't light sleepers). We ended up moving the matress onto the floor to avoid the creaky bed and using one of the single duvets as a matress topper to make it more comfortable. All in all, a bit more diligence in ensuring previous complaints were properly addressed would have made this a much more positive experience.

  • "We enjoyed a lovely time in Weymouth."

The cottage is as well presented and clean. However, we felt that the mattresses on the beds could do with replacing as we had springs poking into us and were on the whole quite uncomfortable. The dishwasher got blocked so could do with a clean. It states that no pets are allowed but when using the vacuum cleaner you could smell wet dog when using it. The cottage was ideally placed which meant quick access to shops and the beach. We would probably use the property again as we did enjoy ourselves. Thank you

Lots of room . Unfortunately we couldn't get the shower to work on Friday . I reported it but nothing was done about it. So it meant mum and me were unable to shower for the last two days . Other than that it was fantastic
