  • "This was a little piece of heaven."

Beautiful cottage and location. Can't beat this for peace and tranquility. We could have sat on the veranda all day enjoying the extensive gardens, views and the visiting wildlife, but felt that we did need to go out and explore a bit. The owners had thought of everything for our comfort and provided a few extra little luxuries to welcome us to the property. Very tastefully furnished. Would book this again in a heartbeat.

Our only thing that we would change is the sofa's they were very low and loose cushion which were not the comfiest.

  • "We had a lovely time at ‘The River House’."

The House is well equipped, the beds super-comfy and all set in a beautiful location by the river. We enjoyed the short tree walk within the grounds and longer walks from the back gate of the property. The decking and veranda at the back of the house is a fantastic space, ideal for al fresco lunches, BBQs or just watching the river. We had daily visits from the Heron, swans, water voles and plenty of garden birds. We also caught glimpses of the Kingfishers and even one short glimpse of the otters a little further upstream. The owner is very helpful and made us feel very welcome – would definitely recommend especially for nature lovers!

  • "We enjoyed a very relaxing family stay at River House."

We loved waking up to the fantastic view over the river and fields, lunching on the veranda and then having a cosy fire in the lounge at the end of the day. My 5yr old thought the rope swing was fantastic. No sign of the kingfisher, but the heron came to visit every day. We hope to return one day.

  • "The River House was possibly the nicest holiday home we have stayed in."

The house was immaculate and provided us with everything we needed for a very luxurious holiday. There was so much space inside and out. Despite awful weather it was still lovely to wander round the garden and go across the bridge and beyond. Location is excellent in terms of being rural but very easy and quick access to Salisbury. Plenty to do in the immediate locality so no need to travel far. Beds were very comfy, bathrooms were clean and there was plenty of hot water, kitchen had everything we needed. The log burner was excellent and sitting by that in the evening was a real treat. Thank you Katherine for thinking of everything and allowing us to stay in your gorgeous holiday home. We will be back !

  • "We stayed in the River House for a week with extended family, with my husband and I working while grandparents looked after the kids."

The house worked perfectly for this - WiFi connection was good and there was plenty of space for everyone. The outside space is fantastic and while we weren't able to enjoy it so much in February, in spring and summer the veranda would really come into its own. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

  • "This is a late review due to medical issues."

We could not have chosen a better property to celebrate my husbands big birthday with friends, which was so important. My jaw dropped on entry. It was just perfect. Even when we had a mini tornado up the road outing our power for about 36 hours as a tree fell across the road & over the electric gates preventing our use of the cars it was an experience! The owner did all she could from a great distance, was so very helpful and her son came from several miles away to assist. The local tree surgeon immediately got on with removing the tree from across the road. The neighbours were fantastic with an extension lead to keep a fridge and kettle going and the fabulous wood burner kept us all toasty! No issue, just an experience! The property was really well equipped all round. I took my own kitchen scales and mixer to make a birthday cake but I need not have bothered as they were available. A room to put wet gear and wellies and a shooting stick which my husband much appreciated at the time. The master bedroom has a large TV and lovely electric flame fire (expensive holiday as I now want that fire!) and own veranda. The beds are so comfortable! The cushions had kindly been left out for veranda furniture even though it was the first week in November. So glad as we used it regularly and had 3 breakfasts outside. Just beautiful. The house is adorned with fab artwork, some by the owner, some personal. Just a shame we did not have time to make use of the books in the lovely library. We saw the heron, swans and kingfisher but sadly missed the otter. The river is so lovely and there are many local walks. There were a couple of snagging issues which owners were keen to know about - could only laugh at the fact I could not get out of our bathroom one evening as the lock did not work (only used due to outage situation) just as I was about to climb out of the window, friend managed to manipulate the lock from the outside! This is so good as many places we have been in the UK are clearly not interested in snags. No negatives at all! Just don't book when we want to return!!

  • "A lovely accomodation in a quiet and peaceful area."

Views of open green space, seating from an elevated hilltop and a running river with ducks, swans and other wildlife makes this place a relaxing stay. Ample space for cars and easy access to areas like Stonehenge and Salisbury nearby. The owner was attentive, commincative and helpful to put ones mind at rest for any issues related to our stay.

  • "A fantastic property in a stunning location."

Excellent facilities and tons of space, both inside and out. Highly recommended for a large family or a group holiday, plenty of parking space and the host is very friendly and happy to help where needed. Despite the rural location the property is very easy to access, just seconds from the main road and 5 minutes from the A303. Great for exploring Salisbury (about 15 mins away by car). We arranged an Ocado delivery on the first night which made things very simple, but there is a medium-sized Tesco in Amesbury and larger supermarkets (Tesco and Waitrose) in Salisbury itself.
