Dog poo left all week on the gravel surrounding property. One single bed with no mattress protector, the other single bed with a waterproof mattress cover - not good for an adult. All pillows stained and in very poor condition and without pillow protection. No spatula - try getting a fried egg out without a spatula! No comments book, they are obviously not interested in our comments. The cottage instruction book said there was a book of walks in the cottage, if it wasn’t there, ring them or e mail (making it plain a visit to the house would not be welcome). We tried to call but it went to answer phone. There was not one book, map, guide, leaflet in the property - highly unusual. No wine glasses. Paint splatters on the bathroom floor, sink and even the toilet bowl. It generally felt that they had your money and that was all they were interested in. I definitely would not return to this property - we booked it because it had 4 stars - I don’t know when this property was assessed but it certainly was not worth 4 stars.

Dogs Howling We understand from our neighbouring farmers that during lambing season, the farm dogs are shut up in the field behind our cottages during the night time – hence the howling. We do apologise for any disturbance you may have had. Dog poo Apologies that a dog poo was not picked up during your stay. If you had called or sent me a text, I could have picked it up immediately and disposed of it. One single bed with no mattress protector, no pillow protectors and stains With ten cottages in total, we are constantly upgrading mattress covers and pillow protectors so we apologise that they were not to a good enough standard for you and replacements will be made where necessary. No spatula A quick phone call or text could have rectified this and we could have brought one over to you. The reason we ask guests to call us or text/emails if there are any problems, is that with ten cottages in total, all situated around our house, we are not always able to facilitate guests coming to our house and with a busy family of our own, we are often not at home. We endeavour to always respond within the day to any problems that have been made aware of. No comments book This is not something we have ever been asked to provide. Most guests will always give feedback via their agent or to us directly. No maps or leaflets It is clearly explained in the welcome pack that leaflets about local tourist destinations are in the communal laundry room for all guests to help themselves to. No wine glasses There are’ wine tumblers’ (they clearly were packaged in wrapping with ‘wine tumblers’ written on - not long stemmed wine glasses which you refer to. Paint splatters bathroom floor, sink and loo There are small paint spots on the floor behind the door of the main bathroom, one tiny spot in the basin and one spot in the loo. They are cream in colour so very difficult to spot in the white bathroom apart from on the floor. We have recently decorated throughout and some of these marks are very difficult to get out. We will endeavour to keep trying to remove these small spots. - Sykes owner relations

The property

Shaftesbury 3.2 miles.

On the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire, Linney rests in a peaceful rural location, amidst ten acres of natural scenery, a chance to truly getaway from it all.

Joining a group of Whitebridge Farm Holiday cottages, all gracing the same beautiful area, this retreat benefits from a grassed courtyard which was once stables and barns for the farmhouse built by Lord Grosvenor.

As you arrive, be welcomed by the open-plan living area, glamorously presented with a modern overtone, somewhere peaceful to return to after a memorable outing.

Whether you are settling down for a meal with your loved ones under the exposed A-framed beam, or cosying up on the sumptuous sofa, you will feel right at home.

Beyond this, discover the wonderful bedrooms, each comes wrapped in quality linen, with a soothing glow from the bedside lamps to uplift the neutral decor.

With the addition of en-suite shower rooms, and ground floor living for guests with limited mobility, Linney has been lovingly designed to ensure a comfortable stay all-year-round.

When the sun passes over the cottage, make your way outside to enjoy the seating area and communal barbecue, also perfect for a snug evening of alfresco dining under the stars.

Those plans for the week may begin with a visit to the ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey or navigate the intricate and ancient lanes.

Bath, Salisbury and Sherborne are all under an hour away, or drive through the countryside of Blackmoor Vale down to the coast at Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth.

This combined with Lush green meadows, woodland glades and outstanding architecture creates an excellent trip for friends or family.

About the location

SHAFTESBURY

Salisbury 21 miles; Bath 30 miles.

One of Dorset’s prettiest and most historic towns, Shaftesbury is perched on a spur of rolling green hills, and the views in all directions are without comparison. Lush green meadows, woodland glades and outstanding architecture are all within a short walk. One of the best vantage points is from Gold Hill (Ridley Scott's famous Hovis advert was filmed here) with its quaint, cobbled and very steep street. Visit the ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey (a place of great pilgrimage from the 11th century) or navigate the intricate and ancient lanes. Bath, Salisbury and Sherborne are all under an hour away, or drive through the stunning countryside of Blackmoor Vale down to the coast at Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth. A beautiful area, that still carries the flavour of the very best of the English countryside.
