  • "This is truly a 5 star accommodation and would recommend it highly."

After staying in many cottages in the UK this is definitely the best appointed and we could not think of anything that it lacked. The kitchen and living room are well equipped and the huge bedroom is equivalent to any 5 star hotel room we have stayed in. The garden and outside seating areas where beautiful with plenty of sunshine or shade. A choice of decent local pubs and scenic walks made staying in this area most enjoyable and we look forward to returning.

Everything you could possibly need was supplied, from the lovely toiletries, to the large fluffy bath sheets and the gowns. And, for us, the bonus was the use of an EV charger. I would have no hesitation in recommending Barn Owl Cottage to anyone or, indeed, returning ourselves at some time in the future.

  • "The cottage & garden was perfect."

Everything you needed was there with no expense spared. Loved the cat and the chickens! It was so peaceful surrounded by trees and woodland yet so close to all the places we wanted to visit - Longleat (20 mins by car) Stourhead (NT, 15 mins) Stonehenge (NT, 20 mins) Lacock (NT, 40 mins) Shaftesbury (10 mins) Find Gold Hill there (Hovis advert) & the museum (free) is lovely Salisbury (30 mins, use the P&R at Wilton) Wardour Castle (EH £6 entry, 15 mins) Weymouth & Portland (1 hr) Dont use the P&R, it's expensive & there's plenty of parking there. If yr National Trust (NT) members the 3 places above are included in yr membership. Villages we recommend to visit - Tisbury (lovely coffee shop & deli), Hindon (good pubs) & East Knoyle (support the village shop) + lots more This was a memorable stay for us. The cottage was absolutely beautiful. Quality toiletries, fluffy cotton towels & robes, comfortable BIG bed, pint of milk in fridge, all washing & cleaning products + breakfast condiments eg jam, honey etc all provided. The garden had a Lutyens style bench plus table & chairs surrounded by lavender, roses & delphinium filled flower beds. Paula & family are great hosts & provided a perfect place to stay. Book it, you won't be disappointed!

  • "Barn Owl cottage is probably the best that we have ever stayed in."

It is exceptionally airy and spacious, beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished to the highest standard. It is set in a peaceful, quiet courtyard with views across to woods and fields, where we saw deer during our stay. The owner, who lives on site is available if needed, friendly and unobtrusive. The location is excellent for exploring the surrounding area, with several pubs in the immediate area within ten minutes drive, including the one in East Knoyle itself, which is Good Beer Guide listed. Shaftesbury, which is close by, remains an unspoilt market town with excellent friendly local shops. Highly recommended, and we hope to return.

Beautiful fabrics and attention to detail with the furnishings, we also appreciated extras such as bath robes and quality toiletries. Barn Owl Cottage was the perfect base to visit local attractions such as Stonehenge, Bath, Salisbury, Longleat, and the many historic homes and gardens in the area. We would also recommend the Lamb in nearby Hindon for food. Paula was also very friendly and accommodating, perfect host. Thank you for your hospitality.

Just what we needed for a week away. The WiFi was of a sufficiency which allowed us to do some necessary work, which was perfect. Paula, the host, was present if required but not at all intrusive and the cottage was placed centrally enough for us to get out and explore the area with a short drive to the places we wanted to visit. Not often we have found properties that tick all these boxes, so really delighted to have found this gem.

Plenty of effort made by the proprietor and Sykes to make sure how to find the farm - there are three farms on the same road and all have the same postcode, which confuses satnavs more than a little . . Their advice worked for us.

It is in a fantastic location, with beautiful gardens too, and everything inside the cottage is of very high quality, and so comfortable - we slept so well! There are walks from the door, but we made the most of the location to visit lots of places. We did a walk around Hindon, two miles away (used the booklet in the cottage), and had possibly the best Sunday lunch ever at The Grosvenor in Hindon. We also visited Wells, Bath (fabulous lunch at Cappadocia) Frome (great town trail from map at TIC), Sherborne (Castle and village), Cranborne (village trail and gardens), and Shaftesbury (including Gold Hill). We did a lovely walk from Win Hill to Pollard Royal and back. Also had a fantastic evening meal at The Forrester at Donhead St Andrew. Fantastic cottage, excellent location, and great host - would recommend very highly, and look forward to a return.

  • "From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by Paula, the owner."

The property itself is absolutely pristine and meticulously maintained; hard to believe it's not brand new. Large spacious lounge/kitchen dining area in muted colours made for a very restful space. The bedroom likewise is large and spacious with plenty of storage space. Fixtures and fittings, towels and robes were of premium quality which added to the pleasure of staying there. Ideally located for the "sights" of Wiltshire and Dorset whilst being located on a small single track road, so we were easily able to appreciate the quietness and the large carefully tended garden area without any traffic noise, save the odd tractor. A very nice touch was that Paula brought us some flowers & a card in case we had been disturbed her family visiting her house.....to our embarrassment we hadn't! But a really lovely thought. Apart from the usual visits try the 5.5m walk starting from the village church, the sights are quintessential England in summer. Another beautiful walk starts in Shaftsbury (6m). I cannot recommend Barn Owl too highly.

The only sounds were those of the country……birds singing, horses neighing and the occasional tractor passing by. The owner was there to meet us with useful advice about the local area and helpful hints about her lovely cottage garden. The cottage was beautifully decorated , spotlessly clean and well equipped, We even had vertical fans and as we were there in the hottest week in June, they were well used. It would have been our preference to sit outside to eat, amongst the roses but the weather was so hot that we opted for the cool interior of the cottage.. The cott age was sited close to many ‘sights’ including Stonehenge,Longleat,Stourhead and other little picturesque villages and towns such as Shaftesbury. A real treat if you want peaceful luxury !

We loved it here! It was still early season for the lovely garden, but we enjoyed the scent of the spring flowering Clematis wafting through the windows and watching the plentiful bird life. Paula, the friendly but discrete owner, was on hand in case of problems ( there weren’t any!) We enjoyed a local walk past bluebell woods and visited an exquisite spring NGS open garden in the very pleasant nearby village but the cottage was also ideally placed for venturing further afield.
