  • "This property is a delight, quaint and homely."

Situated in the grounds of the Abbey, the views are wonderful and you are local to many amenities. The flat is on the 1st floor and is well equipped, clean and comfortable. One point of note is that bell ringing practice for the Abbey is on Tuesday evenings for an hour or so, so if you're sensitive to sound then it can be a good idea to fit in dinner at one of the local restaurants during this time. You will need to park your car about a 4 minute walk away in a long stay car park but for unloading and loading at either end of our stay we could park within 50m of the front door for a short while. It is a little gem in a wonderful town.

Parking is a slight problem but not unexpected in view of the location.

  • "The property was far from clean."

One bed had not been made up ( but we agreed to do that) . Bin in the kitchen not empty, dishwasher full of crockery. 2 bowls of rotting grapes in the fridge. The freezer compartment is very dirty and has obviously not been cleaned for ages. One toilet unclean. Used towel left in one bathroom. Old hairbrush and dirty sock found under one bed. I don’t think the flat had been cleaned AT ALL since the previous occupant. At £200 a night, this is very poor, indeed at any price. Will not be staying there again.

It was very clean and very well stocked with all essential items (and more) for the kitchen etc. The furnishings, pictures and ornaments give it a really homely feel. We enjoyed our stay and would happily stay there again if needed

  • "Lovely flat in a really nice location."

A few niggles such as having to close the fridge door at the same time as the adjacent cupboard door or it won’t close properly. The en suite shower was very hot and there was no way of making it cooler and the bathroom shower’s attachment was broken therefore the shower head couldn’t be attached to it. Otherwise the place was perfect. I meant to take a photo of the toaster before we left as it made great toast. I would be grateful if anyone knows the model.

  • "Delighted with our stay."

The apartment was comfortable, with lovely furniture. There was plenty of space for my wife and I, together with her sister. We ate in twice. Views out of the window emphasise the beautiful Abbey, and the sound of the bells added to the ambience. Car parking is a bit of an issue - I don't know why Medieval town planners didn't anticipate this. I parked on the Culverhayes Car park 400yds away - free between 6pm and 8am, £6 for the rest of the day. Would come again.

Also had to collect key from caretaker at her home. A lockbox would save both her and guests a lot of hassle!

Dear Rosanna,Thank you so much for taking the time to post a comment, I am always keen to read what people think of Abbey Court.  The Guest Information Booklet has been kept in the lounge for many years.  After reading your comment I decided to move it to a kitchen shelf, where it might be easier for everyone visiting to spot in future.  As is usual, the key could have been bought to the apartment but on the day of your arrival it was so kind of you to offer to collect it.  Sadly we are not able to put up a key drop box at the property.I hope you are able to visit Abbey Court again, the cleaning team we so pleased to receive you positive comments before you left the apartment. Very many thanks, Melanie Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed being right in the heart of Sherborne and found the flat perfect for our needs."

The lounge was very elegantly furnished. The kitchen was well equipped so we could cook in if we wanted and the shower and bathroom facilities worked well. Overall, we were very comfortable indeed. Thanks very much. The only problem was when leaving we found the bin was full which we then reported.

  • "Perfect apartment which we absolutely loved."

Will definirne back. Just one negative: Each time some person entered the charity shop downstairs, it’s door would slam shut creating a loud thud upstairs in the lounge room. This became extremely annoying after the 200th bang. The charity shop needs to fix/replace its door damper and the noise cam become extremely frustrating. Overall, loved the apartment

  • "Lovely spacious apartment, comfortable, good central heating, good bathrooms."

Enjoyed being close to the abbey and watching all the comings and goings from the windows looking over Abbey Close. Duvets on single beds not ideal for winter, too low a tog rating. No additional blankets to use. In the kitchen no dishwasher tablets left therefore dishwasher could not be used. Washing up in the sink with only a small sponge scourer left for the whole week and no draining rack wasn’t ideal. No cleaning cloths left at all for wiping surfaces. Supplies for the washing machine were left but not required as no washing of clothes done during stay.

  • "Lovely 1st floor apartment, clean and tidy, with views over the church and green."

The property is in a pedestrianised area, there are a few loading bay spaces near by and a large long stay carpark around 5 minutes walk away. Kari greeted us outside the property and was very helpful. Marked down slightly as a microwave would have been nice for heating a quick snack after a long day exploring Dorset, but used the the hob, so not a deal breaker. And the church clock does have bells which ring the time, we had the windows open overnight as it was very warm weather, which made them more noticeable, didn't overly bother me. A lovely stay thank you.

  • "We loved the property which was well located in the centre of a thriving town."

There is plenty to do on your door step. The flat itself was very well appointed and stocked with everything you need to make in home from home. All the facilities felt as if they were new. It should be noted that the flat is on the first floor with steps to get up to it and it is close to the Abbey clock which does chime every 15 mins - however this did not unduly disturb us as you soon get used to it. It was a bit annoying to not have the car outside particularly when unloading and loading which has to be done on the street nearby. We would thoroughly recommend this flat and really enjoyed staying here.

  • "Pros Beautiful location, within easy reach of local facilities and close to a number of beaches and National Trust properties."

The interior was clean and inviting and more than enough space for 4 adults and 2 dogs. The local pubs and restaurants are within walking distance of the property and we found the locals to be very warm and welcoming. Sherborne has everything that you could possibly need including supermarkets, green space, Sherborne castle (old and new) and lots of choice for restaurants and pubs. Cons We were unaware that parking was in a separate car park and was not roadside as we first thought. The car park in question is about a 10 minute walk from the property. The Abbey clock also chimes every 15 minutes day and night! Which can be quite alarming if you are a light sleeper.

I am so pleased that you enjoyed staying at Abbey Court and it is certainly a great location to explore Dorset and enjoy all the restaurants and shops in Sherborne. With regards to parking it is always suggested to guests, who check options with Sykes Cottages, that they park in one of the long stay car parks, after dropping off luggage. Paying for parking using the phone app option costs just £6 for a weeks stay in one of the local long term carparks. I hope that you will visit Sherborne again and enjoy all the beautiful Dorset countryside on offer Property Owner
