  • "A lovely cottage in a pretty village."

The owner has left her mobile number visible and is available at all times for any queries. Perhaps the cottage description should also include the cottage rule of no smoking/vaping even outside which I have never seen before.

Thankyou for your lovely feedback. We are pleased you loved the cottage. We will certainly update the description to include no vaping. We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "It was a lovely property, situated in lovely grounds."

Once we got used to the parking situation, it made it easier! Had a lovely tray of goodies, including a dog biscuit for Winston upon arrival! Everything we needed was there. Met the the lovely host and cleaner on departure. We visited the local pub which served lovely food and people were very friendly and welcoming. Only a short drive to other amenities or nearest town. All in all, a lovely stay and would recommend to others.

Recommendations in the handbook with the house were spot on. Parking for 2 cars was fine and the property was perfect for travelling around tourist hot spots.

We appreciated the teabags, biscuits and dog biscuits on arrival. The box of dog towels and poo bags was a thoughtful addition. We will be back for another visit soon. A perfect location for dog walks and visiting the area.

Very comfortable with everything we wanted. Lovely well maintained gardens with great garden furniture. The welcome pack which enabled us to enjoy a cuppa & biscuits on arrival was much appreciated as was the bottles of squash (we were very lucky with warm weather). The lounge with super comfy sofas was particularly welcoming- with everyone able to enjoy a comfy seat.

Well positioned for the local pub, beach (with lots of parking) 10 minutes away, Bridport and Weymouth. Definitely not for anyone with mobility problems due to the fairly steep climb from the car parking. Fast internet and good facilities.

  • "An extremely comfortable, well equipped and spacious cottage."

All rooms were spotlessly clean as was all the kitchen equipment. Much of the decor and furnishings looked newly refurbished. The pretty garden was delightful and perfect for relaxing in, after a day out. Thank you for the biscuits, milk, tea etc. which were very welcome on our arrival.

  • "The cottage is situated in a lovely village with a great community pub and surrounded by beautiful landscape but conveniently close to beaches and Bridport."

So far, so good. Our problem with the house was that although relatively spacious and reasonably well -equipped, it was grubby and a bit shabby, and certainly not at the standard we'd expect for the price we paid for our week's stay. The shower wouldn't drain away, and the cubicle was mouldy, and we had to stop halfway through showering to prevent flooding (we noted that this was brought up by previous guests over a month before our visit). There was food beneath the microwave and mould in the bin. When we stripped the beds in the ground floor bedroom, there was mould on the wall in the corner. The carpets were stained, the skirtings dirty. The whole house could do with a really good clean, and it made staying there uncomfortable. Overall , we felt over-charged for the property of that style and condition. It's a shame because it could be really pretty, but it needs an overhaul.

I think you need a photo online of both ends of Lilliput’s lounge to give it its full potential, high quality carpets, fantastic bed mattresses, support pillows and bed linen. We met the owners who were onsite in the garden when we got back one day during our holiday and they are both very nice.

  • "Good location and great attention to detail to make you feel welcome and have a hassle-free stay."

The garden is very pleasant and the lounge is very comfortable. The parking is awkward though and the layout of the cottage, although fine for two people, might be tricky for larger groups, especially as there isn’t a dishwasher! Most people who stayed before seemed to have eaten out a lot but that wasn’t so easy In April 2021 because of the lockdown easing rules. Nevertheless we have a lovely few days; great to be able to get out of London!

It was more than adequately equipped and suited our needs to a tee! We were a family of 5 adults meeting up for a long weekend over Easter and we had a great time. The village pub was staggering distance away and they were very accommodating, the sights of Dorset were all on the doorstep and the sea was minutes away. We were able to sit out in the garden, and although it wasn't quite warm enough to eat outside, the facilities were there. The lounge was bright and airy and a great size for a family. The property

Lilliput is a quirky detached cottage in a hollow tucked quietly away in the small and beautiful Dorset village of Shipton Gorge. Just three miles from the stunning Jurassic coastline and surrounded by breathtaking countryside, this cottage is an amazing base to explore Dorset on foot, by bike, by car (or by bus from Bridport or Burton Bradstock). For those seeking an ideal country walking base, or explorers of our iconic historic coastline to those who seek the peace and tranquility of countryside and a slower pace of life - Shipton Gorge is a hidden gem.

Even better there's a village pub within two minutes walk of this property. Sleeping up to six people with three well furnished bedrooms, one of which is downstairs and the upstairs ones having quirky sloping ceilings, Lilliput offers a comfortable hideaway from busy town and city life.

With a sunny garden and terrace stocked with beautiful plants, you will be sure to sit back and unwind while listening to the birds. Once you have relaxed and want to explore further afield you can find the picturesque village of Burton Bradstock with the Hive beach a short distance away and just a little further on West Bay with a fascinating old harbour and the extraordinary Chesil beach and Bridport the exciting nearby historic market town. The property welcomes two well behaved dogs but respectfully the owners ask they are not left alone or allowed on the furniture. The nearby eating places such as The New Inn, The Anchor, The Hive Beach cafe are all dog friendly.

There are many more and all offer local food. Those looking for more adventure can try the stunning scenic coast road to Abbotsbury, Portland and Weymouth to the east or going west you can visit Lyme Bay (with its fossil interest), Golden Cap and Charmouth. Those who have National Trust membership may find this an advantage. All this makes Lilliput the perfect getaway at any time of the year for family or a group of friends.

About the location

SHIPTON GORGE

Bridport 2.8 miles; Seatown 7.2 miles; Lyme Regis 13.3 miles.

The village of Shipton Gorge has its first reference in the Domesday Book of 1086. There is no "gorge" but it is an interesting and pretty village with high banked lanes, lovely houses and a community spirit. There are a number of thatched properties as well as listed buildings, one site of special scientific interest, two small woods and a network of public footpaths and bridleways to be explored. It has an early 15th century church tower, a 13th century font and the exterior is floodlit for much of the year making it an important feature of the village both day and night.

Note: not suitable for children under five or those with limited mobility due to the stepped/sloped access to the property via 24 steps from the parking area. There are 2 ponds in the garden.
Note: max 6 people.
Note: dogs are not to be left unattended in the property at any time.
Note: bath is shorter than standard on the first-floor bathroom.
