  • "Fabulous place to stay in beautiful surroundings, all nicely kept up."

Lovely touch leaving sausages, bacon, eggs, black pudding for breakfast and a bottle of fizz.. Pizza oven was fun to use. Some of us had fun swimming in the big lake and dogs too, as we had such beautiful weather. The use of the boat and kayak was also fun. Generally a lovely place to spend either a week or a few days to unwind. Thank you

  • "We had a brilliant stay at Rose Lodge, the setting is really quite beautiful."

The hosts Chris and Amy were very friendly and helpful, the location is great for exploring Dorset in general, with a great pub a short distance away as well as supermarkets etc. The only criticism we would have is a lack of blinds in the bedroom windows which was a problem for our children going to sleep and waking up early, but on the whole, a great base for the week and would definitely recommend.

So happy to find everything we needed.. even a full breakfast left for us a bottle of prosseco..so very kind.. the rooms very homely and the beds very comfy My only concerns were the spiral staircase..you could do with having treads on them to make them safer, as we found them quite slippery..the duct tape didn't look nice either.the bed classed as a double is a small double ..could do with a normal double size .But overall we loved it and would certainly return again.. thank you

Ideal for our party of 6 including our two grandchildren aged 5 and 10. They loved the spiral staircase! (Might prove difficult for younger children) We were pleased to see the lodge with Xmas decorations and what a lovely welcoming pack. Little touches like tea, coffee beans , seasoning, oil were a bonus. Situation absolutely delightful. Very safe environment for the youngsters. Would certainly return. Amy was an excellent host. Thank you.

  • "We had a lovely break here in Rose Lodge."

It was clean and tidy and a brilliant stay. The only negative was it is listed as an enclosed garden, we expected a separate enclosed garden space for each lodge. The enclosed garden surrounds both properties. It wasn't a huge issue, we used our car dog guard to stop him from running out and down the stairs.

  • "The property was comfortable and all necessary needs met The location exceeded our expectations and the owners were very prompt in responding to queries and a couple of minor problems."

On arrival awaiting us we found Prosecco, a dozen freshly laid eggs a pound of lean bacon and half dozen delicious sausages awaiting us in the fridge.a very nice gesture. We all had a very happy and relaxing time walking in the coppice among the swathes 0f exquisite wild garlic, and around the various fishing lakes, where the heron came regularly and the geese with their family of goslings. it was all very tranquil and peaceful. A perfect base for sightseeing Dorset and Wiltshire, i would definitely recommend for a nice quiet get away.

  • "The situation of Rose Lodge is idyllic, it is tucked into trees (our grandson called it a treehouse)."

There is a field in front with a three hole golf course, football net and masses of space to run and play. The walk in the woodland, at the back of the lodge was a delight and we had fun cooking pizzas in the outside pizza oven. The lodge was comfortable and clean and the electric fires kept us warm in the cool evenings. The oven cooked unevenly so baked potatoes cooked on one side but this was rectified by using the microwave. The tap only dripped if not fully turned off. The downstairs toilet push button flush is a bit tired, it flushed ok but the buttons occasionally stuck. However these are minor things, and it should be recognised that the property is a lodge deep in the countryside. We loved the peace and quiet, the chickens, the walks and the wildlife. We were reluctant to leave and are looking forward to a return visit.

  • "Unfortunately the right hand rail to the steps was lose and also my husband acquired a splinter."

Inside was nice and clean and a lovely welcome pack of assorted foods and bottle of wine and flowers which was really nice. The room looked a lot smaller than shown in the pictures shown on the website. Seating was two “odd” armchairs that were uncomfortable and a three seater settee which was very low and uncomfortable. The old electric cooker never attained a decent heat to fry eggs etc properly. The hit tap would continually drip like Chinese water torture unless you kept getting up to tighten it more and more. The beds were comfortable and clean. The downstairs wash hand basin was lose on the wall. The lakes and views outside was beautiful unfortunately nowhere on the property was a seat of any kind to sit and enjoy the scenery. Being disabled that would have been lovely. It stated an enclosed rear garden but it was not enclosed and when dressing one morning sat on the side of my bed in the downstairs bedroom a gentleman from the next lodge along walked right past my window and with no nets I was visible to him. On the Wednesday evening when I sat outside the door I was entertained with children shouting and arguing about dirt bikes in the yard adjacent to the property so the peace and quite was shattered for me. As I am classed as immune suppressed and clinically extremely vulnerable I was so looking forward to my peaceful comfortable holiday but we actually left a day early to get home and sit comfortably. Such a shame as the website listing looked so promising.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. It is always helpful to know what we are doing well and how we can make things even better. We are so glad you appreciated the beautiful surroundings and countryside views especially managing to enjoy the lakes during some of your ‘free’ fishing sesssions. The Lodge does offers 3 different sets of outdoor furniture so the gorgeous views can be appreciated from every angle and we are especially fond of the view from the seating on the raised decking. Guests are welcome to take a chair to sit in their favourite spot. We recently invested in some new Emma mattresses and agree with you that the beds are super comfortable. We always get such positive feedback about the comfort of our lodges so it’s a shame the indoor furniture didn’t work for you. It is always helpful to hear about any maintenance issues you experience during your stay as usually we can rectify them for you straight away. As peaceful as we are here, there are two other properties on our 15 acres site so there is always a chance you may here other people during your stay however the overall consensus is people really enjoy how quiet it is. • "We were a family of 5 staying for a weekend to visit Longleat."

Loved that the owners left us a bottle of wine and breakfast. Was a lovely surprise and appreciated it. On arrival appreciated that the owner had turned the lights on and the fire so when we arrived it looked warm and cosy. Beds were very comfortable and the whole house warm and clean. Made use of the map and the handbook to go for a walk and to order a takeaway. Whole experience was good and if we were to come again we would make use of the golf, croquet and kayak. Accuracy of the listing: There was no pizza oven outside which was on the listing but we did not intend to use it anyway. Suggestion: Exit time was 10am. My only wish is that I would have liked an extra hour at the property to maybe have got another walk in. However I appreciate that the whole lodge needs to be cleaned and prepared for next visitors

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review. We are extremely pleased that you and your family had a great stay and you enjoyed the extra touches we do to make your stay feel extra special. Regarding the check out time, we try and be as flexible as we can so it is always worth asking if you can checkout a bit later and we will always try to accommodate this if we are able to. Families are always welcome to stay for an extra walk or a game of golf once they have checked out of the lodge too if it’s not possible to give a later checkout time. Apologies regarding the pizza oven. It received some storm damage and it just wasn’t possible to replace it before your stay. When you come and stay again their will be a pizza oven outside for sure. • "The Lodge was well equipped for use as we went in late November and it was cold, there was warm air heating in the bedrooms and lounge, the only cold area was downstairs bathroom which was very cold."

Kitchen well fitted out with added benefit of dishwasher and all you needed to make up dinners and serve them. Bedrooms were cozy with some space for storing clothes. We had a young child of 4 so appreciated that there was a stairgate at the bottom of the spiral stairs, would be useful for one at top as they slept upstairs and landing was a little difficult with a young child. Lovely surprise of fresh food, sausages, bacon, tomatoes, milk, mince pies and dog treats were left which was very much appreciated. Overall hosts have put a lot of effort to making this a lovely quiet place to stay away from it all, as down some narrow single lane roads. Cows in nearby field and chickens were walking around, delightful setting with the lake in front. Thank you.

Amazing place. quiet, peaceful,. Two stunning fishing lakes. not overfished, the fish are in great condition. Great location for traveling to local places of interest. Very nice that there are only the two lodges, which means your not competing for fishing spots. I had the place to myself for the week I was there. Loges were very comfortable, facilities in the lodges were also very good. The one we were in, had a bathroom downstairs, with a shower room upstairs. Great to have WIFI. too. The owners responded to problems very quickly. The negatives. The lodges in my opinion need a little TLC. however ours was very clean. Two of the fishing lakes also need some work. however I spoke with Chis, he has plans in place for this. Overall a most enjoyable holiday for my Wife and I. The grounds around the lakes are kept very well, so when I was fishing, the wife could come and sit, with a book, and enjoy the surroundings.

The furniture was extremely comfortable to relax in, the bed was incredibly comfortable. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and the wildlife abounds. We took 2 dogs and they couldn’t get enough of the endless walks around the lakes, the fields and woods. The garden is dog proof but you need to be mindful of squirrels and the owners chicken. My own personal preference would be to replace the carpets for vinyl flooring and replace the dishwasher for a washer/ dryer. The owners live on site but don’t bother you but if there’s any problem they respond immediately and cannot do enough for you, they are really lovely people they also left a wonderful welcome pack of black pudding, bacon, sausages, tomatoes , fresh eggs, milk, tea, coffee, sugar and an absolutely delicious homemade pumpkin pie, dog treats and toy. I have to say that Rose Lodge far exceeded our expectations and Sykes service was excellent. We will definitely book to return and we will be using Sykes again.
