  • "We really enjoyed our stay, the Shepherds Hut was very comfortable, well equipped and clean."

A great place to unwind and watch the day go by or a base to explore the beautiful coastline and return to relax in the hot tub watching the stars. We met Roger (one of the owners) and his four legged friend Bee, both were very friendly. Roger was happy to spend time, imparting his knowledge of the local history and trees and plants on the grounds. There are a variety of apple trees growing along with tomatoes and herbs, which you are invited to use/pick, this was a nice touch. We would definitely recommend a stay at Samphire.

The hosts were so kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The hot tub was so good after a days walking and sightseeing .Weymouth was only six miles away and parking on summer time rates was a bit high ,but looking at Weymouth worth it .The shepard hut was very cosy and the shower was roomy and water hot ,the bed comfortable .We are going to rebook for next year as its such an ideal base for further adventures and i would recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful location to come and go from .Lastly many thanks to Roger and Michelle for providing a heaven from home ..see you both next year .

  • "It was an amazing experience as this was our first time living in a Shepherd's hut."

Roger and Michelle were very nice and always helpful. We did not come by car, but Roger was always dropping us to the destination where we wanted to go and it was unexpected from the hosts. The hot tub was very nice and also glad to meet with Bee the dog. There are so many sightseeing places such as Weymouth, Durdle Door, and Lulworth Cove. The shepherd's hut was clean and cosy and also we met with other guests living in the next door. It is a great place to live if you want to go for a relaxed holiday away from your daily hectic schedule. Thank you, Michelle and Roger for hosting us, will meet next year!! - Arvind & Sree

It was great to meet you both and useful for other guests to know you don’t need a car to visit and enjoy this area of the Jurassic Coast. So pleased we exceeded your expectations with your first shepherds hut holiday. Bee will be pleased to see you again for a good game of catch! Thanks so much, Michelle & Roger Property Owner

  • "This was such a beautiful place."

The owners were so helpful and cared very much that guests were looked after and happy during their stay. Meeting me on arrival to show guests around and explain everything. Nothing was too much trouble. The hut was just perfect with great attention to detail, with everything provided that you might need. A really tranquil location, total get away from it all but with the luxury of a comfy bed and the hot tub is a real bonus. Walking distance to the beach and a lovely pub. Leaving refreshed and relaxed after a week was exactly the plan. I will be back again.

Thank you for those kind words Debra, we are so glad you enjoyed your week at Middle Acre. Will look forward to meeting you again. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Samphire, very comfortable and cosy."

The woodfired hot tub was a delight after a days walking as was the warmth of the firepit. It was a pleasure to meet Michelle, Roger & Bee the dog. Everything was well thought out and nothing was too much trouble. Eco friendly toiletries (I need the recipes for the shower products please!) Thank you for the delicious apples and tomatoes. Husband says a mirror on the wall above the bathroom sink would make shaving easier...

  • "Amazing amazing amazing stay!"

Everything was really lovely, bed was super comfortable and hot tub a big plus! Only thing, the water in the shower wouldn't heat enough, nor long enough, for us to use it. We rinsed ourselves out of the hot tub with the warm water and some soap! Otherwise, it is SO incredibly beautiful to be able to walk to the coast, which is just breathtaking. Hope to be back soon!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you so much for your kind words about the hut. I’m sorry we didn’t explain how to work the thermostatic shower, as there is always plenty of hot water from the gas supply. At least you found another use for the hot tub other than star gazing! Thanks again, looking forward to welcoming you back, Michelle & Roger Property Owner

The friendly hosts greeted us on arrival and showed us around the property and answered any questions we had. They also told us about the local area and gave us some handy information for nice walks and local pubs and attractions. We had some tasty cold ciders waiting in the fridge for our arrival too, which were very nice! Our overall stay was very relaxing and we would definitely recommend.

Very comfortable bed and lovely warm, cosy shephards hut. Owners were friendly and accommodating. Only advise I'd give future guests is download a movie or two to watch in the late evenings x

  • "We had a wonderful week @Middleacre."

Michelle and Roger were fabulous hosts and their recommendations for places to eat and local walks were spot-on. We enjoyed the digital detox and spent our time exploring the cultural heritage (visiting cottages of Hardy and TE Lawrence) and the natural beauty of the area (Osmington Mills and Lulworth). The evenings were made all the better toasting marshmallows and unwinding in the hot-tub. Bee the dog provided ample entertainment for my 12 yr old.

  • "It was a really great break away from it all."

The photos dont really do it justice as it cannot capture the atmosphere, and friendliness and generosity of the owners. It was our first sheperds hut experience, and all the detail and facilities here makes it a whole other level above other shepherds huts we browsed before booking. The area is stunning with loads of walks to do. Local pub booking is essential before going.

  • "Michelle and Roger are lovely and very welcoming."

Clear instructions beforehand and good communication. The hut itself is amazing - great place to be off the grid and a sustainable way to holiday, if that is important to you. Place is very clean and there is good access to hot water, good zines bathroom and showers, toiletries and towels included and all cutlery/kitchen items provided too. Very cosy and any time we had a minor issue Roger or Michelle were on hand to help. The hot tub is amazing - does take 2hrs to heat up but once done it is very satisfying and much more sustainable.

How does a cosy ‘Eco friendly’ holiday in rural Dorset complete with a wood-fired hot tub sound, Middle Acre is the perfect place to kick back and relax.

Small enough to care, with a pair of bespoke Shepherd huts tucked away and packed with all the essentials you could need for a self-catered stay including soft furnishings, throws, a double bed, kitchenette, en-suite shower and flushing toilet.

Solar lighting and wood burner makes for a snug off-grid stay with your own private cottage garden style space, with barbecue for alfresco dining.

The wood-fired hot tub ensures a good night’s sleep after star gazing the dark skies above.

Take the five wooden steps up into the hand-built shepherd hut and find a cosy open plan space furnished with vintage and repurposed furniture and fittings, the whistling kettle sits on the single gas hob, as the solar powered fridge chills your drinks.

Being off-grid with no electricity or no Wi-Fi shouldn’t mean you’re worried about being a bit too far off the beaten track, do not fret, a solar-powered socket will be provided for USB charging and the pub and local farm shop are only one and a half miles away.

Not only do you reduce your carbon footprint by holidaying in the UK, but these shepherd huts also have some great energy-saving features too, including solar-power, sustainable rustic interiors, environmentally friendly cleaning and washing products, and shower water is reused to irrigate the wildflower meadow and plants.

Home comforts can still be enjoyed from the double bed, heating, lighting, hot and cold running water, and flushing toilet provided.

Middle Acre is near the size of a football pitch, with Chestnut trees, fruit trees, flowers and a poly tunnel, whilst beyond the hut’s gate a gentle wander will lead to the beehives, kitchen garden and V E Garden, where you'll meet the free-range chickens, ducks, bantams and friendly farm collie Bea.

Middle Acre is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, ideally situated for a stroll to the Smugglers Inn or walk to the local farm shop and tearoom with freshly made ice cream and local produce.

Situated on the coastal path you can easily explore the undulating world heritage coast, walk to the iconic arch of Durdle Door and onwards to Lulworth Cove.

Early birds can be rewarded with stunning sunrises over the iconic Jurassic cliffs, a 30 minute amble from your hut, following the smugglers paths will bring you to the secluded shingle beach of Ringstead Bay.

Here you can drink in the views, and safely bathe in the still, clear waters.

In cooler months this is the perfect place for some invigorating cold water therapy.

Leave the car and traffic behind and walk into Weymouth with the stunning sea views from the coastal path and watch the fishing boasts unload in the picturesque harbour.

To enhance your stay, chat to us about producing your own veg at home, gardening advice and growing cut flowers; Roger will happily take you to see the friendly cows and show you the best places to explore local history and wildlife.

For thrill seekers, we can offer advice on the best places for coasteering, rock climbing and kayaking; alternatively, simply relax in your own private garden and make lunch from the on-site produce, unwinding in the dappled shade of the large chestnut trees and just breathe!
