About the location

STURMINSTER MARSHALL

Wimborne Minster 5.5 miles; Blandford Forum 7miles; Poole 8 miles.

The east Dorset village of Sturminster Marshall, on the banks of the River Stour, is the ideal base for a holiday within easy driving distance of some of England’s finest beaches. The village boasts three pubs, a farm shop, golf course, village shop, including a pharmacy and Post Office, and a parish church. At the end of the village on the banks of the river stands White Mill, a former mill, now owned by the National Trust and open at weekends in the summer months. To get to the mill you have to cross the medieval arched White Mill Bridge, the oldest bridge in Dorset. You can sit here and picnic on the riverbank in one of the most beautiful corners of rural Dorset. An easy drive takes you to historic Wimborne Minster with its popular antique market, the Georgian town of Blandford Forum or magnificent Poole harbour where you can take one of the regular boat trips around the islands. Alternatively, enjoy the coastal route towards Swanage or to Weymouth. The village makes an interesting base from which to explore this beautiful area.
