“The owners were helpful and friendly, without being intrusive.”

The property was quite spacious, got plenty of light and sun, was well equipped and clean. The beds and settees were all very comfortable, something we always note. The property was in a quiet location, with places to walk the dog, both in the village and a short drive away. Places of interest to visit were nearby, such as The Tank Museum and Fleet Air Arm Museum. Just 2 suggestions - this was the only place we have stayed in where there were no coat hooks, boot shelves etc in the hall. Also the only place with no folder of information and items of interest. The bath/shower in the bedroom where both sides of the bed were accessible, was very difficult to use, as the shower attachment needs to be at the other end of the bath. As a general comment to all owners renting out accommodation, I think they should spend a full week staying completely in the property to see what is needed or missing. This property was better than many.

The property

A charming, semi-detached cottage, situated in a tranquil countryside setting, on the edge of the world-famous village of Tolpuddle.

Full of character, the cottage is well equipped and furnished to a high standard, providing quality holiday accommodation.

The property also boasts three en-suites and a cosy open fire with log burner for those cooler evenings.

There are lovely views across the nearby valley of the River Piddle stables and pastures, and a gentle stroll takes you to the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum.

This is also a perfect base for exploring Thomas Hardy's Dorset, with his birthplace just a short drive away.

With Athelhampton House, Lawrence of Arabia's cottage, Monkey World and The Tank Museum nearby, and the Blue Flag-awarded beaches of Bournemouth also within easy reach, you really will be spoilt for choice!

About the location

TOLPUDDLE

Dorchester 8 miles.

The delightful village of Tolpuddle lies deep in the heart of Hardy country, just 8 miles from the bustling market town of Dorchester. Full of character, this village offers a tasteful combination of modern and thatched properties, surrounded by glorious countryside. The lush meadows, watered by the quaintly named 'River Piddle', and the nearby chalk downland provide lovely rural walks. This tranquil village is probably best known for its six famous Martyrs who held the first Trade Union meeting in 1831, and the local museum tells their story. There are plenty of other local attractions including Lawrence of Arabia's cottage, Athelhampton House, The Tank Museum and Monkey World, all of which are well worth a visit. With the delightful towns of Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth, and the stunning Jurassic Coast also easily accessible, this is an ideal base for a varied holiday.
